I have big dreams but very little experience. I’m planning to study graphic design next year, but I don’t want to wait to start learning.

I’ve seen so many talented people here, and I’d really appreciate your advice. What are your favorite YouTube channels for photography and editing? Are there any books you’d recommend? Also, what’s your go-to photo editing software?

I’m feeling a bit lost and unsure where to begin, so I’d love to hear about your personal experiences and any guidance you can share.

P.S. I took this photo on my iPhone 13 and edited it in Lightroom.

That's it. Now all you need is to do it more.

Begin with gear and end with gear. This is the /p/ way.

honestly your composition is ass so far but there's an attempt so thanks for posting it to /p/. I don't think any additional editing will help you with that, I recommend focusing on composition for now. Also posting this type of low effort, half naked, sad fuckable troon nudes on the r/filmphotography subReddit will give you a ton of updoots, just add grain they'll never notice. I didn't read the thread so far but I'm sure some retards will tell you to buy more gears or something, don't.

The composition is fine, it works. The subject is at the intersection of a few different lines (shadows, indents, framing, etc.) It could be a background for a jungle mix or something and no one would bat an eye. It works *shrug*

As for advice about posting on 4chan, don’t reply to anyone who abuses you. They don’t care about you. Any swearing, insults, demeaning comments or whatever, ignore it. You’re going to get that a lot if you post here but it’s never beneficial to engage people like that in discussion. For example, if you ask why they think your photo is bad, they might say asking why means you’re upset about the criticism. No good faith expression of constructive critique, just abuse. Ignore it.

Is there something about this picture you wanted to change but don’t know how? What is your goal, both with this picture and with your camera in general? We can’t really help you without some specifics.

>What are your favorite YouTube channels for photography and editing?
I’ve never found a photography channel I’ll actually watch continuously. It might be because of the personality type of the average guy who makes YouTube videos about photography, but I will say this droning nerd was very helpful when I wanted to learn how RawTherapee worked: https://youtube.com/@andyastbury
And, while it’s not exactly a channel for “learning” photography, this guy’s personality and videos are enjoyable: https://youtube.com/@ccderik

>Are there any books you’d recommend?
No, but you should buy one or two photography books from a used book store when you’re starting out. You will inevitably see pictures that inspire you and pick up helpful words of advice about framing and composition, best practice, etc.
Make sure to watch lots of films.
>Also, what’s your go-to photo editing software?
RawTherapee, but if you’re already using Lightroom I don’t know how many good reasons there are to switch.

turbofagot. His composition sucks it's the most basic shit you've ever seen the shadows are all over the place and don't align with anything else on the scene, the camera isn't leveled compared to the window frame, the subject is far too small (this is debatable), the bottom half of the image is just empty textures, the jack cable could've been creative if we were in 2005 but even then they would've taken the time to untangle it a little, there's fucking garbage everywhere ruining the commie block effect (ffs you could've at least removed the dead stick on the left), no it's truly a bad tryhard shot. I'm not even talking about the colours cause OP said he didn't know how to edit but man it's useless to lie to beginners
