have not used my k1ii in a while i should break it out

been too busy playing with my minolta 7d + pentax k3 and will probably sell the k200d + k10d (i just dislike their ccd output, sorry, i like my other ccds a lot more like the oly e500, konica 5d/7d, sony a390)

>Because I'm broke

Let's be real here. Doesn't mean you can't take a good picture with it.

Pentax feature set seems really cool. It would be a shame if all that development in their firmware went extinct because of an autistic fixation on optical viewfinders.

>oh meh gehd, this cumpany has so much SOVL and LOVE for muh TRADISHIUN that it took them 10 years to release a full frame camera after Canon and Nikon so that people using their lenses could finally have the native focal length they had in the film days
there is literally only one use for pentax cameras, but I won't share it as to not raise prices

putting them up your ass?

the truth is they should never have chased the competition with full-frame. they had already gone into digital medium format territory, they had the Q to appeal to casuals and all their APS-C cameras for the majority of use-cases. Pentax are in pretty dire straits now and I think it has to do with this approach. they tried to do everything. not to mention there’s only a handful of excellent lenses for the K-1 series cameras, even now.

I really like my KP and the lens that I have for it but their autofocus sucks such ass that I ended up buying something else for birds because it was just such a pain in the ass to deal with. It's a shame because I like everything else about my KP and the other Pentax I have/have had

The K3 MKIII is supposedly an improvement in AF but it'd still be garbage compared to other brands

After using a K1ii then K70/KF then K3 I agree

Pentax should've never went FF. The K1 feels kinda bleh, the AF is crap and the auto programming kinda sucks even compared to the older K3. It always felt at best a step better than the K70/KF despite being nearly 2x the size and price.

I think you're wrong about them being in dire straits though. They abandoned DSLRs for the Ricoh GR line which sells out everytime its been restocked despite being just a K70/KP (GR3) or K3-3 (GRIV) sensor with a fixed lens. And the K1 wasn't a terrible camera either. If you read reviews it was competitive both on price and features with the Nikon D810/Canon 5D-III (it was nearly $1000 cheaper in some cases)

The problem is CanoNikon has more money and an actual marketing department. So they came out with the D850 and 5DIV and released a better camera than the K1ii. And then Pentax refused to drop prices so now they want $1800 for a APSC or FF the equivalent of a Nikon D500 or Nikon D810 in 2026.

The K3-3 is fine in terms of AF if you pair it with a 55-300 PLM from what I see the nips do. Its not just the tracking points but its the lenses + programming. Often my Pentaxes focus on the wrong fucking thing on top of the screw drive not being fast/precise enough. K3-3 also has a completely different GUI from the older ones. I think it would be an excellent camera to own but I would never spend $1800 on one....maybe for $7-900 I'd pick one up and sell my K1ii for it (the loss in sensor size for me would be made up by better sharpness from superior AF = more keepers. That and editing 36mp RAWs fucking sucks lol)

Took this with my K1ii

>the truth is they should never have chased the competition with full-frame.
The entire point of being a "Pentaxian" is muh heritage and muh old school. Leica embraced this by releasing relatively quickly a full frame M camera and specifically tuning the sensor stack for traditional lenses.
Meanwhile, Nikon kept the F mount and Canon switched to EF early enough to make the transition not that painful. If you were a Nikon or Canon shooter from the film days, you could almost painlessly switch to digital keeping the same lenses and workflow you always had.

Pentax are the biggest retarded losers I've ever seen, plus, their APS-C lenses lineup is a fucking joke. They unironically expect people to use FF lenses on their cropped crap, while only producing boomer-zooms
