Wanted to share some photos of a military-frontier reenactment I went to recently.
Last one. Thanks for looking.
I like 'em, OP. I think you did a gud job of capturing plausible historical poses and activities, especially >>4514067. The greasy fingers, naval tattoo and cigar make it feel lived in. Dunno about some of the color editing, though. Seems a little on-the-nose in some cases, sort of like those novelty shots at old west attractions where you dress up in cowboy gear and they slap a sepia filter on the image but it doesn't have the other characteristics you'd associate with photography of the period.Did you get any shots of gunfire or cannon fire outside of >>4514058 or was it not that sort of reenactment?
>>4514053I like the photos where you've done the least editing.I think trying to make new photos duplicate historic ones is futile (without using old techniques), it's better to approach from the perspective of having a modern camera at a historical event. I like these the most:>>4514053>>4514060>>4514076
how do you get your pictures so clean? i immediately recognize your shots whenever you post in rpt because no one else is posting stuff with this quality. it's lifelike, but more beautiful than irl. is it mainly color grading or processing? it looks like what you might expect from a magazine
>>4514054It's banger OP, too bad Americans are too fat and gay to be authentic. Just find better subjects, your technique is on point
>>4514294This. I hate how the b&w looks.
Great shots all around. Good thread.Favorites:>>4514054This one looks like it's from The Naked Spur (1953).>>4514059>>4514060The high contrast works here.>>4514065>>4514074
>>4514155 (checked)Thanks, man. The colors aren't for everyone, I suppose, but I'm still trying things out. No, it wasn't a battle reenactment. It was more of a day-in-the-life type deal. They only fired the cannons a couple of times.>>4514294Fair enough and good advice.>>4514375I really appreciate that, man! To your question, I think it's largely the color grading. To be honest, I got my first camera one year ago and haven't figured out how to edit the colors by myself in a way that produces these results consistently. I lean heavily on presets for the colors in my photos. I plan to read some books on color theory and work towards doing the colors on my own.I don't like trying to bring the shadows up too high, so I often just let the highlights clip if I think it will result in a better exposure. I try to only show off good photos. I usually shoot at 3fps, end up with more photos than I need, then only show the best ones.>>4514396Thanks. One day, we'll purge both the poisons the poisoners of our food, and we'll be as Heracles.>>4514413Glad to hear it, fren.
