i wish i bookmarked the page but i read a firsthand account of a security guy for some bigshot company who stayed in the highrise to protect people there who were backing up/retrieving the servers or some shit. the guy was ex-military and had his gf there and they were kitted out with guns, food, generators, fuel, everything they needed, and they rode it out for a week or two before getting out (their location downtown never fully flooded IIRC). anyway, he described being on guard duty and hearing sporadic gunfights breaking out across the city, and seeing roving gangs of blacks on the street below who were clearly out for blood. he said he was fully ready to drop anyone who fucked with them but no one ever attempted to. the stadium was apparently a different story though

Thankfully I was on the Northshore when it happened. The eye went over Slidell and the Lake came about 5 miles inland flooding half the town. I llved about 1/2 mile from the lake so everything I owned was destroyed. I had just moved out and gotten my own place. I was renting a room in a friends house. Saw my first dead body, Water came up to the roof. Ill never forget the smell and all the mud caked up everywhere after the water went down. I had just graduated high school and summer of 05 was one of the best summers of my life. Then Katrina happened and it felt like a big fuck you to my life plans. The nights were spooky, No police, no streetlights, no traffic lights, no cell phone. and the heat was unbearable the week after. It was all hands on deck for every young man 12 and up. If you wanted to learn how to get handy. It was the perfect time. I'll never forget the big garbage pile that was stacked up along highway miles and miles of demo garbage. Like a big levee hill of garbage stretching all the way down highway 11 until the bridge. The one thing that I also remember is walking back into my childhood home to help my dad. It looked like your home was a blender. Random furniture and end tables from the backroom ended up in the foyer and vice versa. Random shit all over the place. Water marks on the side of the house. Roofs blown off, houses torn down, electrical poles fallen on the ground, trees falling, pretty standard stuff for a hurricane. The damage of Katrina was the evacuation, governmental response, and aftermath. Everyone underestimated the storm. Evacuation notices were sent too late, so lots of people crowded at the Superdome and the Convention center. Most people evacuated. My family did. The traffic was horrendous, the worst you'd ever see. We luckily had family in Tennessee and stayed there for some time. After two weeks, we decided to return home. Everything was destroyed. There was no power, unless you had a generator (most didn't because I lived in a poor area). My family lived in the local highschool for over a month. We had to take showers using a hose and slept in what was effectively a sleeping bag. It's important to remember that Katrina did massive damage to the power grid. Some places didn't get power back until several months after the storm. Most of the South just turned into an FFA with nigger violence. The only way to be safe was to be around a lot of other (white) people. I can't speak much on New Orleans, but the horror stories are real. My high school history teacher was one of the people trapped in the attics of households because of the massive flooding after the levees broke. He went three days without eating or drinking.
