The Charlotte stabbing made me think of other black vs. non-black cases from over the years which DIDN'T get the same kind of media attention. There have been a great number of horrific crimes in that category which are forgotten or largely unknown. Post cases that people should know about.I'll start with the Daron Dylon Wint case from Washington, DC. Wint was a 'small-time' felon and thug who wanted a 'big score' to set himself up for a while. So he targeted a fancy-looking house in the northwest corner of the city. He broke in, took a child hostage, and then used the threat of murdering the kid to get his parents and their housekeeper to comply with his demands.Unfortunately, they DID comply. Wint tied them up and began to beat and torture them in the belief that they must have a large amount of money somewhere. After stealing $40,000 via checks and ATM cards, he stabbed all four to death and set their house on fire to hide the evidence.Despite signs of accomplices, Wint was the only one arrested and convicted in the case, eventually being sentenced to life. At 5:30 pm on August 9, 2020, Hinnant cycled onto his next-door neighbor's property, and the neighbor, Darius Sessoms, a 25-year-old man, shot 5-year old Cannon Hinnant at point-blank range. At the time, Hinnant was playing outside with his two older sisters. After police officers and EMS personnel arrived at the location of the shooting, Hinnant was taken to Wilson Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The motive for the shooting is unknown. Sessoms was arrested within 24 hours and subsequently charged with first-degree murder.
The Devon Dunham case from South Carolina is one of the most outrageous so far, since there has been no justice at all. Dunham carjacked and murdered an elderly white man named Ernest Martin Stevens for his truck in the small town of Hardeeville. There is no doubt as to his guilt; he both confessed and had numerous other items of corroborating evidence against him.At his trial, Dunham claimed that he fired 'accidentally' after Stevens resisted. A mostly-black jury refused to convict Dunham, and he was released from state custody. Thus far, no vigilantes or South Carolina good 'ol boys have taken justice into their own hands, which is honestly a damning indication of southern decline.
