There was just as much political violence, if not way more actually, in the 1960s and 1970s, despite the USA having a smaller population, and we never descended into civil war. We live in a time of anarcho-tyranny, which is exercised not just by the government deciding when and who to arrest and prosecute, but is also decided by lone gunmen and mass shooters. You never know if your kid will get shot up at school or not, or if some crazy person will unload their rifle in the grocery store, or if some random black guy will start stabbing you on public transit. This extreme randomness and unpredictability leads to behavioral changes in the public, which may be the intended effect. That's bad for society, no doubt, but it's not the same thing as civil war. It's a different thing
