Emo transformed into scene and then transformed into hipster and then vanished sometime around 2012. Where did these people go?
>>

unironically, they trooned out and now make pretty good hyper pop music

Um no. Thats just those people.
The scene kids either got balding or fat.
>>
Emo and scene kids did not turn into hipsters, lmao.
Most of us are in our 30s or late 20s at the youngest, so most became normies. Some do still embrace the style though.

Troons came way later, there might be some overlap though.

we became femboys and traps a lot of us

I don't know, it kind of seems like if you were able to follow and be a part of all those subcultures then you were probably sort of privileged, probably some type of suburbanite or something.

For one I thought emo was supposed to be sort of like punk in that it didn't necessarily transmutate into something else altogether, and wad solidly it's own unique subculture or scene.

Now, the beatniks and hippies sort of died out and disappeared, along with the mods and rockers. I know scene is not around as much anymore though it has come back in recent times.

But punk and metal for example as stayed around and hasn't gone anywhere.

Hipster has been around since at least the 60s, maybe even earlier, so it's kind of a misnomer when most people use it in a modern sense, they think it was just some trend in the 2010s. A "hipster" isn't really a specific trend so much as it's basically just a term that was used to describe people who know a lot about culture, and music and art typically, they are stereotyped as sort of being snobs and having eclectic tastes. They are literally known for being "hip" if you know what that means, it originates from jazz culture, where predated rock n roll. It basically means having really refined tastes, but also being really in touch with current trends, being really in style, in fashion.

I don't know if people are as hip these days like zoomers, if they really have hipsters, it would be weird if they didn't at all. There's always the artist types though, I saw a few that could be considered that in Seattle,
>>
>>515481730
Hipster was unrelated.

>>

Some of them did wear those fox tails on their back packs but i remember hanging out with scene kids who made fun of furries
>>
>>515482012
I don't think so but a lot of them probably killed themselves so the result is similar.
>>
>>515481730
I still see people my age dressing scene like. Skinny jeans, ripped flannels, beanies and swept hair. Not sure we'll ever accept our parents or grandparents standards for how adults should look. Obviously since we still hold onto this style I dont think our kids want to copy us
>>
>>515481730
Emo transformed into hipster and then split into a million different kinds of people after Trump's election in 2016
>>
>>515483263
no you weren't lol
I was entering high school in 2009 when this shit was peaking and was a scene kid myself
then I found traps and ended up turning into a cute fag
>>515483458
I wouldnt say so. definitely a huge overlap with what ended up becoming traps though
>>
>>515483183
Nah, tons of hipsters were ex-emo/scene kids. Even occasionally ex-scene for their early '90s birth younger end, though there was more of a pipeline from mid-2000s emo kid to hipster indie kid.

As for where they are now, older hipsters kind of stayed hipsters though they're basically pretentious suburban dads at this point. Younger ones often trooned out or got political, usually Chapo-type leftist but sometimes us. Scene, which partly overlapped in timeframe with hipsters, in my experience skewed a little lower-income and a lot of those girls got pregnant early.
>>
>>515483691
No, I think there was more subcultures then just emo, like hard-core for example.
>>
>>515483458
Most weren't, a small handful were but that's been exaggerated by the emo-looking furry art that exploded in the mid/late 2010s. There were more "I'm a wolf" emo kids, usually they wanted to be Sasuke too, but they were also preteens and grew out of it into run of the mill nerds or emo kids.
>>
>>515483931
Meant to just say ex-emo in the first part, oops.
>>
>Where did emo go
We grew up. Not literally as I still listen to Alesana, Silverstein etc.
But unlike some belief, we can't stay young forever
>>
>>515481730
Well, it went Goth>emo>scene Hipsters were coexisting with emo/scene.
>>
>>515483861
Hipsters predated scene.
>>
"The term "hipster" is over 75 years old, originating in the 1940s to describe jazz musicians and fans. It was later revived in the 1990s to refer to a distinct urban subculture before becoming widely popular in the late 2000s and early 2010s. "

There you go, you fucking retards, straight from the source
>>
From my memory there was two goth subcultures. The newwave happy fluffy goths and the gothmetal angry depressive goths. I'm 90% sure the happy goths transitioned into emo. IDK what happened to the angry goths that listen to typeonegative, rammstien, cof, kmfdm, etc. I assume they all anheroed.
>>
>>
>>515483931
Should add, also, that plenty of younger hipsters are on the same trajectory to suburban dad-hood as the older ones. Those are the more well-adjusted ones, I went to an arts school in the 2000s so these are my classmates.
>>
>>515485313
Emo came from like rural Midwestern places but also I believe Washington was a big influence on the emo scene which started in the late 90s
>>
>>515482012
okay but if males trooned out, what happened with female emos? did they all evolve into alt/goth girls?
>>
>>515485313
None of the music you're calling "angry goth" is goth, good shit but the goth scene are the biggest gatekeepers on the planet. 2000s emo takes some inspiration from perky goth vibes, but perky goth isn't really a separate scene.

Goths are mostly Gen Xers with a few late Boomers and early Millennials, it gets sparse past that point. Mallgoths who listened to nu-metal basically just turned into normies in my experience, younger ones who were into metalcore had a lot of overlap with scene kids and half of deathcore's aesthetics pretty much were scene.

>>
>>515485656
They turned into hipster girls and then pretentious art moms. Or they're older late millennial alt-girls, though none of my classmates really understand zoomer stuff so there's a disconnect with what younger people call "alt." Some percentage trooned out or became enby, less than the guys.
>>
What about the punks? Most of the punks I ever came across were all crust punks, crust punks were relatively common most punks that were left were crust punks for some reason, as if being a punk wasn't rough enough, they couldn't even manage to rent dive squats and apartments anymore and now they were literally all like homeless or some shit.

There was some intersection with the hippies though for some reason, ans bohemians, you saw that quite a lot, especially here in Canada.

I thought the hippies and crust punks were a little victorian esque in how they portrayed themselves, almost kind of religious in a way which rubbed me the wrong way.
>>
>>515485900
Yeah, it was just a group at school. I've only ever met one goth in society, like going to work in the 30s.

one of those phase things people want to do.
>>

>>
>>515485831
Metalcore got big before the emo look was really settled, Hatebreed was the soundtrack to so many early 2000s horror movies when mainstream "emo" meant Dashboard Confessional. The later stuff had a lot of overlap with scene looks, yeah. Scene kind of had two genres, deathcore and shitty electronic rock that gets called "crunkcore" now.

>>515485845
Yeah, "goth" gets misused by the media in ways the actual goth scene hates. The Columbine stuff is mostly industrial rock, so it's more associated with rivetheads but it's also too normie for that scene. The Columbine kids were like mallgoths (disparaging term goths use for nu-metal and Marilyn Manson fans with pseudo-goth aesthetics) with extra rage issues.
>>
>>515483931
In my personal experience hipster shit was entirely unrelated to emo and there was zero overlap between hipsters and emos. Emo kids don't listen to silversun pickups and fuckin teagan & sarah or whatever.
>>
>>515486366
Just going off classmates of mine, I'm an early '90s birth who went to an art school. Emo kids often grew up to listen to indie, including Tegan & Sara.

I'm a 94 kid, most of the emo kids I went to school with listened to shit like thursday and circa survive, the used, deftones was really popular with emos in my town, same with a lot of math rock bands like chon. There was more overlap with the emos, nerds and skaters here than anything else with a little bit of metalhead influence going around. Funnily enough I don't know a single former emo chick who isn't now a fan of charlie xcx, lana, gaga, etc.

The hipsters I grew up with were in a completely different group with very very little overlap, they didn't hang with the skaters or the emos, most of them were band nerds. I had like 2 emo kids in my band class, the rest of them were normies and rock fans.
>>
>>515486693
I didn't see overlap between mid-2010s EDM people and pre-scene emo kids, there's an age gap between those scenes. I'm sure there was some with scene kids since many liked electronic music, and hipsters since the later ones are the same age as the EDM kids.

The EDM boom is super memoryholed though, it was good shit. The Awokening was starting to tear society apart, but outside of dumb arguments about gaming nobody really noticed until 2016. Prime era to hook up with cute Asian sorority girls, they were all big on EDM.
>>
>>515486712
Oh shit that Frankfurt school of thought and new ageism shit that many of those people believed in, they totally lost me. At least here, in Canada that was largely my experience.

I found these people weren't actually very tolerant at all, so they just push empty blanket theories and terms that are basically just used to oppress people even though it's supposed to be the opposite. I was so dismayed by these kind of experiences.
>>
>>515481730

>>

The crunkcore side of scene were all fucking pedos. Any guy into that over the age of 16 was there to fuck little girls.

The ones who liked deathcore were cooler, I had some friends like that, but it skewed older and was about 50/50 female-to-male ratio instead of like 90/10.

Fifth wave emo is a thing because trans zoomers rediscovered the music, it's mostly shit. The fourth wave 2010s stuff can be good, that's a bunch of dorks from states like Ohio.

>>515487080
I'm just one year older. Most of the cases I knew where emo kids grew up into hipsters were late '80s births for the record, prime age for the mid 2000s emo boom and then for the early 2010s indie one. I knew a few scene girls my age who took on the hipster look and got into indie as they grew up, it was much rarer though.

Frankly more scene girls who got knocked up or just wrote it off as a teenage phase.
>>
I was born in the early 90s, I grew up in a really rural small town and there was basically no subcultures or scenes let alone culture whatsoever. There wasn't typical "cliques" but there was like popular kids, and then like everyone else. I found the kids who weren't really popular kind of arrogant on some occasions, looking back now I don't know how people managed to make friends in such a place easily if you weren't like everybody else. I had some really religious friends, which was always kind of awkward they thought they were too good for me mostly though. Then I had pot smoking friends, and that was the only other real clique that existed it seemed like, it was easier to find/smoke pot then to drink alcohol.

I moved to the city as soon as I could, but unfortunately it wasn't Metropolitan. So, there was some music shows but very rarely, and people were hella closed off for some reason, there wasn't many scenes really.

Eventually everyone I knew just moved to Vancouver. So I did move to Vancouver, but I couldn't afford it hardly. I was really effected by the 2008 recession. I had an easy time finding a job before, but after that, nobody would hire me. So I wasn't able to explore the music venues in Vancouver at all.
>>
>>515481730
We're still around. Mostly listen to deathcore now. Style is more Americana/workwear.

As an elder emo it's kind of interesting how after 2012 subcultures in general seemed to take a more background position, which is a backlash to a heavy upheaval of alt subculture around 2008. Emo's and scene kids gradually transformed into hxc people or slowly growing up. When smartphones became ingrained in culture these cultures became more performative and online focused as experience was for 'clout' instead of experience. This basically culminated into the 'e-girl/boy' by 2016. This incorporated a lot of cultural indicators from different subculture but made in more accessible/sex focused and online based. As of 2023 and covid we slowly saw a surge of these older cultures mainly due to tiktok/instagram gaining a foothold with gen z/alpha. Right now emo is actuallt quite big but you can see the obvious differences such as being more fast fashion focused, performative and choosing subculture as class they pick from a videogame. Basically emo's still exist but the post 2000 emo's definitly carry it in a different way. It's kinda funny seeing as I've personally never left the style/music/subculture and still look rather similar as to i did in 2007, but i find it vert difficult to connect to other 'emo' people due to formentioned barriers

But it seems like real bands that play music aren't as popular as raves/DJs anymore. I recently went to a music festival in Seattle and there was hardly any people there.

But of course like, I later found a video vlog this guy who went to it made and like, there was this one venue (there was multiple venues playing music all day in close proximity) and this venue had quite a number of people at it. I don't know how you would think to go to thar venue. It was another case probably that you had to have the right connections/friends social capital it just absolutely mystified me and boggled my mind, like it's not fair, people are so horrendously cliquely these days, I don't think it was so bad for the boomers. Of course I'm at sort of a cross roads at this point. Despite all the minor iterations in style differences and all the subcultures that have come before, I thought I always stayed true to what in essence these movements stood for, which was basically the counter culture movement. And thus as a result, I always defined myself and saw myself as "alternative" or whatever and it wasn't anything that was going to change anytime soon. But I now realize that I was confused to an extent and didn't truly understand.

For one I never realized just how predominate black was, and how the movement seemed to be all connected to that as one kind of link or connection between it all.

But I've come to realize that it was never really black for me that much after all I guess, so maybe I'm not as much one of those people as I had thought. But that's almost world shaking to me but it makes sense in some many ways and I see how I was confused this whole time after all.

Like, why has Marilyn Manson been so popular? Why has the underground music scene largely sucked for the most part, why is everything always progressed so much but in a sense just more darker, and graphic and also negative. The fact that all that stuff underliningly is sort of all the same. It's because it's not really as free as it could be it's not as good because of that. I think progress was made the last century, but it was kind of messy and experimental.

So I don't know what I am now, as I think about going to the store to buy tan boots instead of black combat boots.

Millennials only become 1 of 3 things: a total fucking wageslave normie, a troon faggot, a complete fucking online loser. That's it.

Me too, my emo girlfriend from around 2004 was really cute. I never see girls like this anymore. even at the rock clubs I used to frequent. It's all retarded zoomer cringe-wear or bimbo slut-wear.
Definitely not comfy. Wish I could go back to the 00's..

I can see a relation between emo and the "teenage angst (grunge-rock)" of the early 90's, but what does hipster have to do with emo?

Disregard that. I suck cocks. Posted wrong image.

Despite what time image says the hipster emerged more from 90s grudge which is where all the flannel came from and the roots of the thriftstore thing. The first 2 are just timeline coincidence rather than influences

Frutiger Aero began in mid-2001 with Windows XP's Luna desktop theme and the musical genres Utopian Virtual and Encarta Wave. Vista's Aero and the Nintendo Wii were just the continuation and end of the FA aesthetic, before the stale Frutiger Metro era heralded by Windows 7. the Y2K aesthetic and its particular flavour of drum'n'bass music was from around 98-2000, and ended quickly

>>
>>515481730
They became the leftists screaming at your or the boring redditors sitting by and agreeing with the screamers for the past 13 years. Emo was for faggot posers, scene kids were around for like 1 year and hipsters were just pretentious college kids that disappeared the minute they aged out of it. Millennials are such fucking shit it's unreal

I dated a girl with the old-school emo aesthetic for a while starting in 2020. I've never been as sexually compatible with someone as I was with her. Hope you're doing better these days Amber

And before you fags start implying,
it's a gif, and if you load it and wait long enough, pic related appears.
Or if you open it in Photoshop, GIMP, Preview, EZGif, etc. it can show both frames immediately

first came the punks and metal heads
from them came the darkys, similar to black/death/trash metal but way more vanilla
from them came the Tim Burton fanboys, then they became progressively faggier until they became Emos, not sure about the scene thing but i did notice the transformation into pretentious hipster, still as much a faggot in spirit but a bit more subtle with their deprssion and mor overt with their prtentiousnes

honestly what rally killed the emo was the fact that they were extrmely cringe among the normal-ish subculture of the era, not just for being faggots but but for being otakus with shit taste
they got shit from metal heads, punks, weebs, and internet trolls unbound by terms of service constantly mocking them for being so gay

What really killed Emo/Goth/Scene/Metal subcultures was 3rd world mass-immigration to the west. Nothing else. These generic zoomer mutts are less sapient and more ugly than any generation prior. They can never be anything like us in our peak 2010 era
