I also don't think It has to mean to absolve yourself of your strength, ability to defend and sustain yourself. It's a call to be and do better in every circumstance. What I think a lot of people fail to realize is that Christianity has been carefully curated by multiple empires and changed, becoming a tool of state control and indoctrination perfected over nearly two millennia, so I consider it an abuse of Jesus' teachings. This is true for all major religions. You have leaders unwilling to let go of power. Imagine of Muslims were no longer divided into Shia and Sunni and if Christians weren't divided into Catholic and Orthodox.
