The funniest part of living with JW parents has been to observe their change from kooky misguided believers into straight indoctrination cult.Their entire educational platform nowadays consists of audiovisual media. Sure, they have their own translation of the bible, but when you see them giving studies, it's almost always through videos. The scholars and educators of my time warned me time and again about the dangers of relying on video media to learn from. But they turn it into a mass indoctrination tool because their favorite marks are the uneducated. Literature provoked too much independent thought, so we'll just produce these videos and movies to hijack lemming brains and keep them absorbed on the magical talking box.I have been to a few regional conventions and it is always an eye-opening experience to witness swaths of humans mesmerized by their own hollywood version of biblical stories. I mean the whole auditorium goes dead silent until the movie finishes and then follows the chorus of seal-clapping like they've just witnessed the resurrection of Jesus.

Another secret that I'll share about the JWs and their operating methods:A major responsibility of baptized JWs is field service. Going from door-to-door, preaching with their little magazine carts in public, and for the disabled and otherwise incapacitated members, they write letters in groups, whether physical or connected via zoom. Anyways, to get to the point. I have viewed my mother on numerous occasions circumventing the whole process by mailing these letters with some kind of error in the mailing address so that they are returned to sender with the yellow post-it stating the reason. She has done this for decades and I guess the honor system remains intact, because I have never seen her once face disciplinary action for lying about service.I can't imagine that she's the only one who figured this loophole. But that to me gives me greater perspective on what kind of organization they really are and what their real agenda and objectives really are.They're not nearly as pious as they would have you believe. There are some genuinely nice people in the organization, I don't hate them all, but they are being misled right into a spiritual pit.

Baptized ex J-dub here. All in all, they're the perfect sect for those who do not value spiritual autonomy, want community, and have a great pool of trad women for young lads. Kids I used to absolutely dunk on are now general contractors with wives and kids by their early 20s.For me though, when I started asking an "anointed" (one of the 144k going to heaven) brother questions about the Bible, ie "If the Bible is scientifically accurate, then how did God create Light before he created the solar and lunar luminaries in Genesis?", I was pretty much soft-shunned. The elders and my family didn't want to talk to me about deeper truths. It's all about just having blind faith for the sake of the congregation's cohesion and stability, or otherwise known as social control. When I started reading other literature that wasn't directly from The Watchtower Society, I really did get the sense of how deep of an echo chamber they are stuck in. I don't blame them though. What I would give to be apart of the asphodar stone again and blindly believe. Apart of me misses it. Another apart of me believes that I am being brought closer to God through my hermitage and quest for knowledge. Who knows, maybe I'll go back and snatch me a wife one day.
