Traditional IFVs and APCs lack the protection to be used effectively when drones are about. For mechanized assaults to be viable again, you need to more heavily armoured APCs, which no country has in any significant quantity, and Russian APCs and IFVs are generally even less protected than NATO IFVs. Now that the frontline is moving away from the areas where mines are/were the most heavily concentrated, the lack of armor on APCs/IFVs is the main obstacle to using these kinds of tactics. Of course, in many situations, infiltration tactics would still be the only way to go, but having the option to launch more effective mechanized assaults, with APCs that provide sufficient protection for the infantry, would be extremely useful. It should also be noted that when it comes to drawing the lessons from this war to the next war (And I think there will be a next war relatively soon, sadly) you have to keep in mind that NATO does not and will not have access to even a fraction of the number of mines Ukraine had.

So what the tank needs is an additional, less capable, APS system to deal with drones. Which I think they are adding to the T-14, but obviously this is all shrouded in secrecy. In the end though, the trvth of the quantity over quality argument means just focusing on the T-90M for new hulls is infinitely more practical for now.
