The reggie Humvees are pretty much like jeeps except they're more retard resistant in being taken offroad and on highways versus jeeps (WW2 and afterwards) because jeeps have the suspension setup that can be unforgiving under certain conditions. JLTVs are closer to like a Humvee that's improved and moderately uparmored as a clean sheet design, since Humvees weren't made to be armored in the first place so they suffer weight inefficiency from being uparmored.So JLTVs didn't end up doing a 1 for 1 replacement with Humvees but at some point they were supposed to be. I think being designed to be uparmored day from the ground up meant they had more growth potential weight wise so whacky setups like NMESIS and Rogue Fires got made.
