>The Trump administration is pressuring Taiwan to rapidly move 50 percent of its chip production into the US if it wants ensured protection against a threatened Chinese invasion, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told NewsNation this weekend.
>In the interview, Lutnick noted that Taiwan currently makes about 95 percent of chips used in smartphones and cars, as well as in critical military defense technology.
>It's bad for the US, Lutnick said, that "95 percent of our chips are made 9,000 miles away," while China is not being "shy" about threats to "take" Taiwan.
>Were the US to lose access to Taiwan's supply chain, the US could be defenseless as its economy takes a hit, Lutnick alleged, asking, "How are you going to get the chips here to make your drones, to make your equipment?"
>"The model is: if you can't make your own chips, how can you defend yourself, right?" Lutnick argued. That's why he confirmed his "objective" during his time in office is to shift US chip production from 2 percent to 40 percent.
>To achieve that, he plans to bring Taiwan's "whole supply chain" into the US, a move experts have suggested could take much longer than a single presidential term to accomplish.
>To close the deal with Taiwan, Lutnick suggested that the US would offer "some kind of security guarantee" so that "they can expect" that moving their supply chain into the US won't eliminate Taiwan's so-called "silicon shield," where countries like the US are willing to protect Taiwan because "we need their silicon, their chips, so badly."
>>
>According to Lutnick, Taiwan can also be assured through the deal that the US will remain "fundamentally reliant" upon Taiwan, as the producer of the other 50 percent of chips.
>However, he also claimed that if the US acquired a 50 percent market share, it would ensure that the US has "the semiconductors we need for American consumption," emphasizing that the move is intended to decrease reliance on Taiwan.
>Lutnick also went on in the interview to explain how US workers would benefit from moving Taiwan's supply chain into the US, saying that another major focus of his time in office will be training workers to help the domestic semiconductor industry flourish.
>"I think it will shock everybody how successful we are," Lutnick said.

The thinking on the Taiwan issue is changing.
US only offers ambiguity not any guarantee.

Uncle Xi ever playing the long game will build its own indigenous chip industry and catch up to and maybe surpass Taiwan.

Having offshored the chip manufacturing Taiwan will have real leverage. Taiwan's potential we will blow up the TSMC plants if you invade strat will be moot.

Who knows if anyone will give a shit if Xi still decided to invade at that point.

Yes. They should not give anything up that risks their security.
Once the USA has the chips, and the trained workers to produce their own they serve no need doing anything with Taiwan. Infact their relationship with China would probably grow 10 fold by letting the old dragon have their island back.

The defense contractors can already taste how rich they can get charging US manufacturing prices for them to the US defense budget.

Taiwanese workers also work as if their very life depends on the outcome of their highly advanced chips with insanely high clean room restrictions that take forever to produce.

You just have to look at whats happened to Boeing to see an American mindset . It's about "working smarter, not harder by doing less" and always trying to innovate new ways to cut corners in order to jack up profit margins.

He was specifically referring to the Americans attempt to rape, pillage and destitute the Vietnamese. The quote is highly apt for this thread where rumours circulate that Americans, who are mainly jewish as you correctly point out, are attempting diplomatic blackmail under veiled threats of violence if they don't give up their industries to American hawks.

Taiwan shouldn't have move a single TSMC fab. If China invaded then US would be in a deep shit losing access to the entire chip ecosystem

Taiwanese army already said that if Americans attempted to blow up or damage TSMC fabs in case of war or takeover by China then the US solders would be a target
>>
>>517649145
>long hours
>have to be on call
>burnout
Those issues don't sound inherent to semiconductor manufacturing. I see (from chatgpt) that tsmc operates 24/7 and can't tolerate delays, and that semiconductor manufacturing is both very sensitive and very technical, but can't you just have a few more people around so they don't have to stay for an extra 4 hours to troubleshoot and fix a problem?
Ngl sounds like a cool work environment, very technical but also very day-to-day

>>517649952
It might not be physically demanding but it sounds a lot more mentally demanding. Having to rummage through your niche knowledge of nanoscopic chemistry and physics to troubleshoot whether it's a lens issue or contamination issue or something else under a time pressure sounds stressful.
>>
>>517653176
In current scenario it would be a death sentence for the US economy

China has its own fabs and chips that maybe aren't as good, but China has the best networking in the world meaning they can merge chips for coherent work better yielding the same or even better results, while US in this case would have nothing

It would be a black hole back in stone ages.
>>
t. neighbor the new tsmc plant
it’s entirely taiwanese workers.
americans cannot produce semiconductors. it’s a niche skill that isn’t taught here. there’s no talent infrastructure. for jobs new to the economy you need education. whether it be trade school vocational or college.
the new economy jobs for americans are in software. this is where we dominate globally. moving a chip fabrication plant and its workers across the pacific gives us a small gdp boost, not jobs for american workers.
>>
>>517649095

you believe this shit

>>517653418

South china sea. It doesn't really matter anyway because we're fucked if theres chip manufacturers here in the states or elsewhere. What really matters is the south china sea corridor. And it matters for more than just the U.S. Basically the entire world needs free and open trade through it. Not just the U.S.

The upper managment you mean? I dunno if they'd want to be contracted as intermittent directors.
>they just need to strong arm the dutch company asml from servicing and selling better machines to taiwanese tsmc.
If this is before the US gets 3nm nodes, then Taiwan pops a vein and doesn't give 3nm chips to the US.
If we assume this is after the US somehow gets 3nm nodes, then I'm not sure what the point is.
Plus tsmc has managed to continuously innovate. Maybe they not only excel in operating the newer nodes, but also excel in discovering the new nodes. If the US cuts ties with TSMC, then we might be linger on 3nm whilst Taiwan and China march to 2nm and onwards.

Ohhh
Eh that works only upto a point. There are also bottlenecks in memory bandwidth (presumably comes from smaller nodes with smaller shorter wires) and network bandwidth (if you have more processors, this becomes a bigger bottleneck).
Concretely for grad descent, you need each processor to iterate over terabytes of data (requires high memory bandwidth). Then you need to merge every processor's weight deltas (high network bandwidth) and then do the entire thing again many many more times.
If it was something like cryptomining which is embarassingly parallelisable then you'd be right.

This is the reality. I know some Intel chip workers from Organ it pays shit compared to being a software engineer whereas in Taiwan it's the opposite and TSMC pays much better than being a dev.
Very different priorities and then everyone acts all shocked Pikachu they can't get chip talent in the US.
That Arizona plant is barely pumping out anything either compared to Taiwan factories, would need an insanely huge ramp up to even get close to 50%. Like a few hundred thousand skilled workers out of thin air to replicate the entire supply chain involved

Nice bargain for China.
China wants Taiwan enough to throw Iran under the bus.

But China now depends heavily on Iran oil to fuel its industry.

China could still buy oil & gas from Russia
>(thru sea and the new pipelines crossing Mongolia and Central Asia)
(Also ofc from Indonesia, Nigeria, Arabs, etc)
But it won't be enough to meet China industry demands.

I guess China would still try to keep backing Iran, in its upcoming war against Israel and USA, by providing military equipment and Intel.
While grabbing Taiwan.

If China grabs Taiwan I bet USA either wouldn't do shit and just watch like a cuck or force Filipinos, Japanese and Koreans to fight as proxies in USA's behalf.

If China invades Taiwan most Taiwanese citizens would side with China, and betray West.

Naval blockade would be Kino.
But as you said Taiwan could surrenderm submit to and be annexed by China simple thru diplomacy rather than hot war.

How Trump cut USAid to Japan, Korea and Taiwan while punishing 'em with sanctions will backfire and push them more towards China.

China already bought many Japanese politicians into it's sphere of influence.
So I would not be surprised if Japan also betrays the West.
If USA withdraws from East Asia to focus on Middle East and Venezuela.

Worst/South Korea rivalry with Best/North Korea would keep Worst Korea on USA's side.

But many in K-Pop Korea also desire reunification with based Kimmy's Best Korea.
Like Post cold war German unification,
Even if under commie rule.
At least unified Korea would have nukes, so be feared by West.
Instead of a democracy that cucks to the West and gargles on Jewish bankers' kosher dick semen,
Koreans could willingly opt for a more based NatSoc style authoritarian rule.

A great deal that I'm spewing here is just /Pol/ack shit posting. So take it with a grain of salt btw.

But the simple thought of a Cold War 2.0 + WW3 across the entire world including East Asia would be pretty cool and Kino NGL.

Legally speaking that’s not how it works. The current post Maidan government of Ukraine has a claim over Crimea even though they haven’t ever controlled it because it is Ukrainian territory and claims go to countries not governments. Taiwan is legally part of China because the Axis lost WW2, after the UN recognized the PRC as the legal government of China in the 70s they inherited the legal deed to all Chinese territory regardless of what they actually controlled.
