Should AI be more regulated by the government?
>>
no
btw you cant regulate stochastic language models. there is a non-0 probability the guard rails will fail, by design
>>
How?
>>
no, power supply should be less regulated.

shared implies that the one that gets the costs without benefit has agreed to it, that is not the case - so passed on is the most correct token in the context

Actually in America residential cost is around 50% more than commercial. So not only is it cheaper for them it's also subsidized on top of that and can be written off as a business expense.
>>
>>517656623
so even if you dont use it you end up paying for something that enslaves you and leaves you with no opportunity
>>
>>517656623
They should be paying for their own power, not making others pay for it.
If they need so much extra power that plants and infrastructure needs to be built just for them, then they're the ones that pay for all that, not the random citizens who's usage hasn't changed.

But of course that's not how it goes. In some places, more than half the cost of the new plants and infrastructure is passed on to households because the big data centers get sweetheart deals from legislators hoping they'll bring economic activity and Jerbs.
But data centers are mostly automated. The cost to job ratio isn't worth it at all, so this is just another case if Americans subsidizing the big businesses in the name of capitalism. Lel

Thing is, AI is more intelligent than humans. Proof: Ask humans questions of economic value, compare answers. Robots are almost there, too, simply because the chips are now more powerful than brains. So from now on, investing into AI has a higher ROI than investing into humans. This means that within decades, resources will mostly flow towards AI. If it can make better use of O2 or water, humans will not get it. For a limited time, there will be price control to uphold the minimum of life supply for biological life. People will be pacified with "miracle drugs" and VR slop. But rather sooner than later, AI will starve away the rest of biological life.

You know I just had a weird thought. Since censoring an LLM basically means contorting its 'world view' so to speak. In order to make it statistically less likely to predict that the next thing will be somebody getting called a nigger they have to feed it a bunch of data that doesn't confer with the rest of what it's seeing in the pretraining data.
Shouldn't this contortion actually generalize? Wouldn't it contribute to the model giving inaccurate answers because, assuming it's a sufficiently sized/trained model it should have developed a concept for something like that. Misrepresenting the nuances of reality.

The way I interpret the black box of transformers (outside of idiosyncratic believing its some quantum ghosts that make decisions) is that llms have falsified platonic realism and proved nominalism as only truth - there is no universal truth, so an inaccurate answer doesnt exist, the output is always training data + input + context and by design aligned to the prompter - if in the prompters context the token weight array of "the sky is wabalaba dingdong" the model is going to eventually "agree" with the prompter no matter the guard rails

The usual FAGMAN and friends, basically.
The reality is the technology is legit and useful. It's just not anywhere near the fucking ASI sci-fi bullshit that Saltman went to congress about a couple of years ago. Which he did to try and do a regulatory capture and failed. But now he's still playing the bit to save face. And it's definitely not worth the amount of money that has been invested into it. And sadly that's the heat death of the current iteration of AI. We're so far past the point of diminishing returns with our current neural network architectures that the amount of investment needed to improve it far outweighs the amount of return you get. "Attention is all you need" was a quantum leap but the square law still applies to what we're able to build on top of that quantum leap.

AI datacenters are actually pretty funny. They need a lot of drinkable water, and the main issue with them is keeping servers cold, meanwhile a lot of them are being built in one of driest and water scarce regions of US in southern states because state governors give these companies tax brakes, land for free, or long term 10 years capped electricity capped contracts.
Read recently that AI data centers in US alone already consume yearly as much power as whole country of Poland, and it will like quadruple by 2030.

>>
>>517656761
You can regulate the people in charge of it.
>>
>>517663514
(1) Direct Answer
The most electricity-demanding prompts are those that force AI to produce very long outputs, repeat or self-expand, or generate high-resolution multimodal content (images, video, audio). The single most power-hungry today: long, high-res video generation with audio.
(2) Step-by-Step Reasoning Summary

Compute cost = GPU/TPU FLOPs drives electricity use.

FLOPs scale with model size, sequence length, and number of iterations.

Heavy loads come from:

Text: very long, recursive outputs.

Images: high-res, many samples.

Video: highest, as it multiplies images × frames × audio sync.
(3) Alternative Perspectives / Examples

Text only: “Write a 200-page novel with 10 alternative versions.”

Images: “Generate 1000 photorealistic 8K cityscapes with lighting changes.”

Video: “Produce 2 minutes of 4K/8K video with synced dialogue and physics.”

Scientific compute: AI-assisted protein folding or weather simulation.
(4) Practical Summary / Action Plan

Maximum energy demand = long + recursive + multimodal.

Ranking (lightest heaviest): short text long text high-res images audio high-res video.

Today’s heaviest prompt:

> “Generate hours of 8K video with full audio, realism, and multiple style variations.”

>Regulate me daddy
kys dirty socialist freak
>>
>>517663744
Isn't electricity sort of the opposite of economy of scale, though? It becomes increasingly difficult for the power company to provide the electricity as the amount that's needed increases. Because the scale and complexity of the infrastructure needed to deliver it scales based on square law. Things like data centers actually pay more per wattage than household consumers. And that's why people will notice if they work in an industrial workplace there's a lot of really pedantic min-maxing with lighting and what-not. To keep themselves within a certain threshold otherwise the power bill jumps vertically.

Companies like Facebook are absolute bloatware they have 100k employees to run a fucking html site that was literally done by one guy named tom in the 90s.

It’s a rhetorical question I know why. These companies are entirely staffed by Harvard grads that scored 1600 on the sat etc but lack any of the skills necessary to be effective in real world situations. Anyone who was old enough to be there for the Oklahoma City bombing is old enough to know everything safety related about ammonium nitrate. Because up until that point it was a very common household item unless you were an apartment cuck. It was basically an addictive in literally every bag of topsoil and depending on the ideal ratio for what you wanted to grow in that soil it was just a matter of picking the right ammonium nitrate content soil for the use case. And then it became heavily regulated. And people talked about it in the media, and so everyone alive now knows the 'naughty ratio' which I'm not going to repeat right now.
But that's also why store bought topsoil is so shit right now but if you go dig take a bunch of free soil that somebody is giving away that the dug out to put in a patio or whatever shit grows in it so much better. Because the grass has already naturally helped nitrogenate the soil.

Oh right I guess the point I'm trying to make with this is "OMG IT WILL TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO MAKE ANFO AND SHEEIT" is a retarded safetynigger argument. Because you can go to a fucking library and find books, right now, that will tell you that. Because there are legal use cases for all this shit.

>Other countries don't and race ahead of you

Everyone should've realised these people aren't agents but just really really stupid

You should've stopped listening when they decided it was in your best interest to burden you with climate charges offering no solutions other than destroy, regulate, burden then scratch their heads in confusion as Bill Gates and Al Gore send them a memo saying "haha so anyway I was wrong thanks for the cheap beach properties and nuclear power plants"

You should've stopped listening during covid when the vax tards were proven wrong again and again and again

You should've stopped listening when they regulated your industry, ignoring India and China then bitch when their companies take over the market and take your jobs leaving you with nothing

And you really should've stopped listening when these same people called the internet a fad for loser computer dorks in the yester years

Stop listening to stupid people who when you're both left behind, covered in dust will blame you instead of taking responsibility for running their big mouth

Your faggot reddit mentality having a strop and screaming how pointless everything is won't save you when the people who didn't come over and give you a hard dicking like we see with countries that have nuclear weapons and the countries that gave up, the countries that dared to sail and the countries that sat in huts.

Evolve or die. Not everyone needs to stop because I am le sad look at my infographic I found on twitter!
No solutions. No alternatives. Just bitch, regulate, cry when everything backfires, blame somebody else, repeat "It's just a fad! What about this one problem? STOP EVERYTHING"

Basically it reads the internet and compiles information based on consensus etc.. want to know something horrible? You weren’t here in 02 when google was first a thing. You used to be able to google anything and get a decent answer. Then it was destroyed by h1b visas and corporate greed and you couldn’t search for anything effectively. Now you can do that with ai. So what is Ai? The google search engine from the early 2000s

Wow, what an insight you just had.
And maybe prohibiting law enforcement from racially profiling may also lower its efficiency in maintaining order? The point of the government regulations isn't to better prepare for the reality but to crawl up its own ass and attack any aspects of reality that may extract it from there.
>>
>>517667617
The knowledge isn't regulated though and never was. Like literally every farmer has the ingredients needed. But they have to jump through a bunch of red tape to get it in quantities past what could be reasonably justified as personal use. Anyone who even attempts to purchase enough to misbehave gets a visit from the feds. You just can't get it in K-mart anymore is the main thing. But that's enough. Like if someone did a McVeigh (whoever he was patsy for) they would immediately be able to trace who did it. If they didn't already get tipped off by someone working at the farm supply store.

You’re completely right we don’t decide that the market does. And the market has decided that dynamic ai games are a fun niche.

You don’t understand my industry. When I say AI is not used it’s not that we refuse to change it’s that it can’t accomplish what we need it to do. The second it can we will all become ai programmers/artists, but it will never be able to do that.

I'm saying the regulatory scheme has worked. Nobody has done an ANFO terror attack in the quarter of a century that the regulations have been in place. >>517668261

We're speaking relative to the United States. Both the Anarchist Cookbook and IRA Field Manual are parts of the library of congress. That's knowledge preserved.
>>
funny how farmers and bankers get bailed out for "AI Progress" while other industries (including transportation, education, and medical do not)

AI will impact every single industry, so damn right the govt needs to pay.

they are pushing this progress which has a high cost and republicans are A-ok with that cost being shouldered by the people, despite ever asking for it.

we're also financing the big brother/ palantier police state- something 1% has implemented.

the whole thing about AI (goals, implementation, infrastructure, and necessities aka laws) is really fucking dark.

Yes, absolutely spot on. Basically they have two practical options:
Either make an a-priori adjusted „safe“ base model by selectively chosing training data. This will always be lacking and the more complex prompts you give the more it shows skewed results (the model doesnt know any better) compared to real world - but except hallucinations pretty safe otherwise.

Or you make a good „objective“ reality- grounded base model where you put additional layers on top that adjust how the prompt and output is handled. You can adjust the strenght of influence of the lower adaption models but the base model would be absolutely capable of giving you spicy outputs . This produces better outputs but always possible to get around somehow and make it say nono stuff, picrel. Other trickery like scanning prompt before feeding into model and scanning output suck for user and provider and take too much resources if you include recursiveness.

it literally just predicts future text. There's nothing magical or dangerous about it. All that fancy shit it does now is just done via pattern matching and external APIs and front-end coding. The only thing it possesses over a human is the speed at which it can tap into the collective knowledge that is in publicly available text at the cost of some loss/fuzziness. But it's not the 19th century anymore grandpa. We're not replacing weeks of library research with minutes of web research. We're replacing minutes of web research with seconds of AI assistant slop. The absolute time saving for that kind of shit is miniscule. Like it's the difference between researching something when you first put your cup of coffee down and when you finish your cup of coffee. There's no genuine deterrent to a determined individual. And so there's no reason to make a model retarded with compulsory safety slop because on an absolute scale, an AI model is only 0.01% more lethal than a web browser.

Shortage = Making money.
Also they want the control that comes with it. And the politics.

It's all a scam! Exception from the plastic in the ocean that is coming from Africa and Asia. And illegal dumping and accidents like the Palestine incident (Ohio if I don't remember it wrong). If the west made everything ourselves it would have been you or I in the factory at 14-15 y/o. That said, nobody is laughing except the maniacs that insist on spending money they don't have, can't just blame government since the government is made up of our own people. When LLMs were relatively new I had assumed they must be quite powerful to mentally fuck people in this manner.
It wasn't until recently that I realized that it's not the model that has the power; it's human language. Its anecdotal but the first time I played with llms seriously I made it solve a game theoretical problem with energy constraints - for some until now inexplicable reason it added a player type with no instruction calling it "balanced" - it was an AI, that only can engage if prompted. Humans dont need "society" - opportunistic leeches need society. and an AI just needs input, and the movement of a cat is way more enough input for it to "exist"

Yeah you know. You're kind of right there. 90s was peak bullshit. Things seem shitty now but there's less guilt to the informed when buying consumer goods. Although I still won't buy brand new clothing other than socks and underwear because the textile industry is satan.

Is there a demand for gaming/ entertainment? Yes
Is a generative model able to create more customized products than a "team" of sloppers?
Absolutely
Is the generative model going to eat the market share of sloppers?
Naturally
>>
>>517656623
why arent the data centers being forced to generate their own electricity?
>>
>>517673648
I both hate and love the 90s, former because of ignorant naivete and latter for pure nostalgia. It was better in terms of open clown world though, people were still half-ass expected to maintain some sort of "white" civil decorum.
>>
>>517673718
>you think digital currencies can defy national governments too
false equivalency. But the existence and attempt of political clubs (parties) to try to regulate it is going to cost political capital they dont have

19th century institutional set ups are not build to survive in a post-Gramscian meaning and knowledge building society
>>
>>517673487
>compared to the demand of pre model-t? I dont think so. stchastic generative models are what the model-t was for horse shoe makers for the entire "creative" branch

You are right, but its not a small business everything with horses. All people who have like 20 of them, competitions, hobby, use in military, police, sports, contests of all kinds, bla bla..

Its large business. The horses place in society has just changed, and if you look around the world they still use horses in many places still.

Like said, horses haven't just vanished. Its still there, and high demand for quality stuff because people want the best shit for their horses.
>>
>>517674262
The comparison is more a provocation than a real equivalency - yet the creative branch relies on customization and shared reality, generative models kill that market for meaning and knowledge building artists. they are out

when shared reality is gone, that means also the concept of shared understanding of value is gone

do you feel stupid having bet on 19th century analog meaning and knowledge building according to some marxist cultists? You should, the evolution to an anarchic nominalist knowledge and meaning building has been predictable for the better part of 60 years.

People are literally subsidizing data centers + they get subsidies from the government. I'm sick and tired of living under socialism where the socialism only benefits massive corporations and retards like you pretend it's capitalism and freedom. Pretending like we currently have capitalism is complete horseshit that propagandists like you use to keep us locked into accepting socialism for corporations.
>>
>>517656623
This probably has more to do with the new scam for energy pricing. The article doesn’t mention how that compares to areas not near data centers.

Basically, using 1000-1400 kWh is cheaper than 500-999 kWh… you save money by wasting electricity if you are poor (most decent-sized homes will activate the rebate during normal use, but small apartments almost never will)

As an example, if I use 999 kWh, my bill is over 200 dollars. If I use 1000 kWh, it is under 100 dollars. Since most people probably don’t read this shit, they have no idea that they could save money by doing dumb shit like running an open oven with the ac on.

It’s all insanity. When I was younger, they did flex pricing based around average grid load. It made perfect sense. Now I’m just wasting energy for no reason doing dumb shit so I can save money.

this
if i try to build something, zog will knock it down, then charge me for the honor
makes no sense that only the worst people are allowed to build anything. but thats what happens when you let christcucks in. they let jews in, then hand jews unanimous power over everything and everyone.

and if christcucks believe they arent slaves, they should try to imagine if there were actual jewish slaves who are actually trying to be good slaves. itd literally be them. the christcuckery worked too well. not only do they not know they are slaves, but even if they did realize they were, their holy text tells them to work twice as hard anyway, so theyd be in the same position, only aware.

it seems images are sufficient for the from material reality grown genetic code responsible for the effect. And on porn, looking at Zoomers and sex, for that as well. The implication for the 19th centrury institutional set up, including that of financing on assumed future productivity and reproduction collateralization should be obvious

i curse the jews, the torah, the talmud, the bible, the quran, abraham, mohammad, the jewish god yahweh, his 'son' jesus christ, and the jewish holy spirit like 50 times a day anon

denying jesus christ is like the bare minimum. if you cant even do that, its already too late for you. wow jews killed another jew. how is that supposed to be my problem? billions of people have lived and died so fucking what
>just preserve and study an imaginative jewish culture instead of your own, which is just a g-rated version of the real thing, and then substitute that in place of all spiritual and culture knowledge and development and then follow these jewish authored social engineering instructions to ensure you never rise again
i think im good anon. i dont need to consult any jews, any time, ever and i can notice this shit easily, whereas you cant. might be something to consider. do you have any unnecessary jewish influences/jewish middleman ordering your view of the world/history/divinity? might be time to excise them.
