Most American Leftists don't try to indoctrinate followers; they openly want all non-Leftists dead and don't bother to hide it. The aura that puts off is attractive to a certain taxon of insecure personality who is drawn to that kind of attitude under the naive impression that it signifies strength. It's comparable to the type of mindset involved in the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Even among themselves, they threaten and bully each other. There are 'soft' versions of this like ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirtbag_left ), but they all eventually feed into the same thing. I've seen 50+ year old ladies IRL snarling like mad dogs and fake-charging grown men because they're so steeped in this leftist culture they think people won't immediately kill them if they could get away with it.
