Has anyone read this?
>>517664649Yes.
>>517664649seriously?
>>517664649and watched the filmit will be very dated now but was good at the time
>>517665163the girl was cute
>>517664649> Has anyone read this?Several times.Animal farm is also good and shorter and you should start there for beginning to understand the jews. And then do lord of the flies, and then Brave new world. In that order to get an understanding of the current order. Then Read the Prince by Machiavellian. Then you'll be ready to become a qualified anti semite.
>>517664649Yea it was pretty cringe, the main character is a gigasimp and deserves everything, banning makeup was based.
>>517665461The prince is also based. At least till you realize it's just copium by Old Machiavelli who was begging for a Peasent revolt cuz he lost his war. Funny shit,
>>517664649no but i've been feeling like i've been living in something far worse for the past few years
>>517664649the grok department told me this book is double-antisemitic.
>>517664649Yes but i forgot the story.
Once you read this read brave new world. Both were written by propagandists for the nwo.Orwell, I think, regretted writing this and working for the oligarchy and was eventually killed in the hospital.Imo they are both must reads, but in the end not very good. But still must reads. They're short.Bertrand Russell is important to, who accused Huxley of stealing from him for Brave New World.Lots of good books in this genra.
>>517664649Don't need to, just look out the window
>>517666108meds, and it's "genre" you retarded mongoloid
>>517666197I see some fat housewife hanging her laundry and her meaty arms gave me a half chub
>>517666317Funnily enough thats the last view Winston has before the thought police get him
>>517664649No but I always quote it
Yes. But there are several adaptations too which might suit the more pea of brain.
>>517666483yeah I know nigga that's why I said it
>>517664649its trashdown and out in paris and london & road to wigan pier are far better because they are not fictionyou can actually see real parallels with our world and draw conclusions on our current reality based on real historyOrwell also isnt shy about admitting his bias so they feel groundedalso dude had some intense homolust lmao
>>517666686>its trashit's the single greatest dystopian novel ever written, faggot
>>517666671my nigger
It is pretty crazy how hard he nailed a lot of it. I recommend it even if you think you know all the main points.
>>517664649YepI think I would understand the precise mechanisms at play better if I consumed his more academic stuff too.I should read the more modern stuff like Brave New World.
I like the headcanon that airstrip one is the all there is to ingsoc and the rest of the world is chugging along as normal
used to be mandatory reading for 9th grade curriculum in the 90's in Texas along w /fahrenheit 451
>>517664649No
>>517666686>its trashtfopinions about literature lol
>>517666979more modern? it was written in the 1930s. they do make a good pairing though. different views of things. its not as if they are related in anyway so far as i know but i always like to imagine that 1984 is how things were before they reached the BNW stage. then comes logans run
>>517664649Yes im not gonna act like a stuck up faggot, i admit its pretty coolI like lord of the world and brave new world more though i think theyre better books
>>517666979read it
>>517664649Yes. Why haven't you?
>>517666108>but in the end not very goodThe values of these two novels are not the stories themselves but the concepts introducedIt's rather ironic that 1984 and BNW were considered two contradicting takes on dystopia, then our reality manages to combine them together
No it sounded woke
>>517664649Yes and it's good but it's overrated and derivative of a different book that came out in 1920 titled "we", written by a Russian. Because of course it was a Russian, no one can write about dystopian topics better than the Russians.
>>517668751did you read that? i didn't think it was very good at all.
>>517664649It is funny how Huxley and Orwell were rivals and always flexing about whose vision of the future is the more accurate one. They both are pretty spot on but I'd say Huxley won. Brave New World is the way more scary reality. People are manipulated into willingly doing all that shit their gubbamints want them to. All the repressions and surveillance is simply the icing on the shit cake.
>>517666686road to bogan pier is utter trash thoback then he still thought of himself as middle class and had middle class guilt over his parents being able to afford scones every morning
>>517668751>weWe is very different then 1984 though even if 1984 was inspired by it. Did you read the book?
>>517665579what a fucking whore, I hate women
>>517668751"we" is pretty ambiguousthe main character ends up becoming a wizard iirc
>>517665259kekthe hooker?
>>517665461Great idea
>>517665163It was complete junk. There was nothing really "cultic" in, just cliché.
>>517669034i think that Huxley was kind of missing the point when he said that a state relying on constant terror and that keeps its people miserable wouldnt persist indefinitely. For a start, orwell doesnt paint a picture where most of the people are unhappy about what the state is doing, but seem to actively support and enjoy it. Neither were the proles nearly so heavily policed and controlled as the party members who actually work for and enable the party to continue its rule. They are the hardy believer types that will soldier on despite the hardships of crap food etc, like so many commies have done over the years, because of their vision for the future, love of BB etc etc.but personally i dont think it was meant to last forever. Obrien need not be telling the truth about that but merely be attempting to full destroy winstons hold out of hope. I think that the boot on the face and book banning stage is just a necessary part of reaching something more like seen in BNW. first you destroy and break the old world, then you can start building the new.
>>517666686Coming Up For Air and Burmese Days for me. Wasn't so keen on Down and Out but Homage to Catalonia was interesting if a little boring.
>>517669263well, he was always a lefty socialist really. >>517669343>>517669390still cute
>>517664649Yes. It was supposed to be a warning not an instruction manual. (Yet here we are...)
>>517664649Why? Everything has already practically come true, and we lived in it...now it's much worse.
>>517669263yeah but he readily admits that throughout the book and has great observations about champagne socialists that are relevant to today
>>517664649Yes. It’s funny too because the antagonist is (((Goldstein))) Orwell knew
>>517670432the irony is so thick you can cut it with a poop knifedown and out is much better, he realizes he's actually scum of the earth, a lumpenprole, but one with middle class sensibilities
>>517666108Orwell barely survived the Spanish civil war after fighting for the Marxist fraction (cause he was a commie) and getting shot in the throat. Huxley on the other hand was 100% Tavistok. Brave New World Revisited (non fiction, written 3 years after the novel) is a prophecy that went 80% true in our reality 60 years later.
>>517671364>written 3 years after the novelI meant to write 30 years. It's actually 28.
>>517667340Perhaps modern was the wrong word. What I wanted to indicate is that orwell's dystopia isn't the only type of dystopia and that there are potential elements (e.g. private corporations) that aren't in 1984. I assume Brave New World is was written quite a while after 1984>logan's runhmmm haven't heard of that one>>517667549alas I am too unproductive ;-;
>>517666979Actually now that I consume the news and politics more maybe I would have more to gain on a second reread
>>517671947>I assume Brave New World is was written quite a while after 1984Brave New World was written in 1931, it's going on a century old by this point.
>>517664649You must be 18 to post here.
>>517671947its a movie. maybe check it out. also definitely check out Jenny Agutters Thighs, you'll know what i mean when you see them. one of those classics. in my pretend chronology it comes after the world of BNW has evolved even more and is on the wane.
Yes, but I've not read anything in two years and I never felt better, my head is now empty and a nice place.
>>517671947Audio book then nigga start with Lord of the World because both last popes called it prophetic and the setting is kinda coolThe do 1984 and huxley put it on yt while youre iddle / winding down for the day
>>517672550good point about the audiobook
>>517668751>no one can write about dystopian topics better than the Russians.Kek I love the Soviet sci-fi, explore it if you didn't already. I recommend "Doomed City" by Strugatsky brothers. I used to think Strugatsky brothers were shit writers (I didn't like Roadside picnic) but it might be a translation issue.
>>517664649time to read it before it becomes a crime to do so
Everybody read this in highschool dude.
>>517673217not me, i got educated in the evils of colonialism and the holocaust by marxist teachers instead. this was over 15 years ago.
>>517666317In the version I first read he was most intrigued by her 'thick negroid lips'. I like 1984 and Brave new world. For anons looking for more like this Fahrenheit 451 and We age good. 1984 and We have quite a few similarities though Orwell claimed never to have read We.
>>517673125I mean, it's not Dostoievsky but English translations at least are utter shityou're a serb, you should be able to read it in Russian with not much effort"Beetle in the Anthill" and its sequel "The Waves Extinguish the Wind" are pretty good too
>>517664649yeah, a few timesorwells lack of writing actually works here and makes winston sound kind of an autist and it totally makes sense in a world where any outward burst of emotion is considered suspicious
>>517673650>you're a serb, you should be able to read it in Russian with not much effortThat's not the case at all. Slavs diverged 1500 years ago and I assume we were never all the same in the first place.Basic sentences in Russian are similiar to Serbian, I did some Duolingo and I play DOTA 2, however you need to actually study the language to be able to speak and read it. I don't think I would have problems doing that, I just don't want to.
>>517673915understandable
>>517664649Yeah I've read it.The main character got the fell for it again reward.Incsoc glownigger pretended to be a secret rebel to catch actual suspected rebels. Also the main character fucked a whore.Overall pretty accurate to what's going on right now.Actually a combination of both 1984 and Brave New World would be accurate.
>>517669314>We is very different then 1984There are similarities tho the state in We is more Brave new world conformity. I thought that Julia and the girl in We were fairly similar characters.>>517669263Not read Wigan pier. Homage to Catalonia and Fighting in Spain are pretty good. One of the biggest problems for the commies in Spain was infighting.
>>517674129commies always form into a circular firing squadin spain they made sure to fuck over the anarchists before starting serious purges among themselves though
>>517673125It's probably translation issue. The movie is amazing. And so is Oбитaeмый ocтpoв with it's 5G propaganda transmission towers
>>517674861>It's probably translation issue.I found the writing quite vulgar and dry, but I don't know if it was intended since the main character was quite average and not smart himself as far as I remember.>The movie is amazingYea I watched it.>Oбитaeмый ocтpoв I am gonna watch it, thanks.Currently watching The Shield and regretting I was not born as a cop in America to extort and beat minorities.
Not a feel good book but yes.
>>517664649we are living in it should be called 2024
>>517664649I read it literally a few months ago. It's now in my top 5 books. Page turner that's super well written.
READ THIS AND CRY LATER:
>>517675469>READNo, I retired, it's better to just chill and enjoy pleasures, reading for entertainment is cool tho.Glowniggers want you to read instead of drink alcohol and fight riot police.
>>517664649read the book, watched the movie and listened to the audiobook, all several times
>>517673125>serb sucking two russian cock at the same timelevel up
>>517675927who read it? theres a frank muller version they say is good but maybe an english reader is better? i heard a good one but cant remember the reader. Simon Prebble maybe?
>>517676057that's such a stupid thing to say lol
>>517664649Has anyone not?
>>517676057I just like the books you animal. I also read American sci-fi and watch American shows. You butthurt belters are annoying. The last time you had a war with Russia was in 1945. There are people on this board from the Balkans whose fathers fought each other that are ten times more normal in mutual interactions than you.Which honestly invalidates all those IQ statistics you like to throw around. Between Russia and the Balkans is a 75 IQ zone filled with people that contributed zero to humanity.
>>517677379patently falsea hungarian invented holographya romanian invented the jet enginea pole invented cellular automata and the sparkplug for fusion bombsand bulgarians... umm...
>>517677833Half of the time when I check the history of those inventors they're fully or partly jewish.Nothing against the Hungarians specifically but remove jewish scientists and they have none left. For Poland it's similiar.
Why would I read this? Everyone tells me I should. Seems like I should avoid it.
>>517664649Yeah it was stupid because a large part of it was about how Winston was going to meet his girlfriend.
>>517677910I specifically chose examples of non-jewish thinkers actually
>>517664649no, any other that pretends otherwise is a larper
>>517665163Equilibrium?
>>517678105Fair enough but just so happens Hungarians and Romanians are on the more sensible side out of the group.Belter reasoning in general is completely unthinkable to me.
>>517664649Great book. (Watch the movie)If you need simpler readingread Animal Farm.
>>517677379Disregard the meme fags, those are not real human beings
>>517678758Not just the meme flags. I used to filter 80% of EE (you're southern), I might do it again. Not like those fags ever say anything useful.
>Her >Penis
>>517664649Yes, wouldn't recommend.
>>517665481>Yea it was plus unbased, the main character is a doubleplus simp and deserves everything, unallow makeup was based.
>>517664649/pol/ hasn't read Orwell or Hixley. They think Gladstone is a type of happy rock, and that John Locke was a Locksmith.
>>517679006>filter 80%Unfortunately 80% of the content here boring and demoralizing. Waste of time but I still come here for the rare gems.Used to be slightly better but I can't remember when that was.
>>517664649>Has anyone read this?in high schoola long time ago
thats part 2, u need the bible as part 1 and animal farm as part 3
>>517669816IMO 1984 is the fear of totalitarianism under communism, while BNW is the fear of totalitarian capture of capitalism.1984:>Gestapo like police state enforced over a social engineering that riles up the retarded moralfagging of the people.>Give them a fake human rights adversary. They'll believe the government.>They'll accept total surveillance for "safety" and government making decisions for them because of "justice".Brave New World>Religion was subverted by fanaticism towards The Product. "My Ford" is now a God, and people are given opium in form of free sex and drugs to keep them from realizing they're manipulated 100% of the time.>They get free sex and drugs when they want>They believe in what they consume, just like gamers or people binging subscription services.>They believe their work is required to have a good life.I've always viewed the books more as fear-mongering critiques of present-day symptoms when they were written, than genuine worrying about future regimes. The things they critique were already happening respectively in 1931 and 1949, when the americans were touting capitalism and the soviets were touting communism. Both of them were seeking full governmental control with either system.
>>517679891Everything used to be better and I am only a zoomer, remember how much people were talking in vidya and now nobody chats, I think our stress levels went up so people degraded substantially (other things also contribute perhaps but I think stress and the clown world are the bigger reasons). World peaked in the cold war and early 2000s (discounting cases like Serbia) and now we're in degradation phase.
>>517664649>>517665163was forced to in grade 10 by my based english teacher and it was my first redpill as a wee bab.he would also frequently use ambiguous phrases like "weapons of mass destruction? what does that mean?" to get us to think about how the government and official narrative is never as it seems
>>517666317>I see some fat housewife hanging her laundryuhh, no you don't. no one in the US hangs their laundry for the past 70ish years, give or take.

>>517667804>1984 and BNW were considered two contradicting takes on dystopia, then our reality manages to combine them togetherThis
>>517664649It read like demoralizing government propaganda. I have no idea why it's praised by people who oppose a tyrannical government when the most potent message of the book is: "fighting back is futile."
>>517664649Brazil mogs this and brave new world because the dystopia of Brazil is adequately retarded and nonsensical
>>517682490lines in the basement? must be a nice airy well ventilated place. what kind of winters do you get because when its really cold stuff actually still dries when you hang them outside. its neat.>>517682615you just know

>>517664649It’s a cliché to cite that book, but it is difficult not to, considering how prophetic it is.

>>517669816>Neither were the proles nearly so heavily policed and controlled as the party members who actually work for and enable the party to continue its ruleIt didn't cross Orwell's mind that in the future that job could be automated by AI to keep track of everyone everywhere at everytimeThat being said, Huxley somehow figured out people could be domesticated with pleasure and complacency, but didn't figure out that cheap pleasure and hard authoritarianism aren't a mutually exclusiveWe're getting the worst of both worlds
