Hobbyists mostly, and some antiquated systems.

Boomers and people in the literal middle of nowhere, where they only have a land line
>>
what will happen to my gemstone character
>>
>>517716269
I know boomers who pay for aol broadband just because they thats where they know the locations of all their buttons to access stuff and don't want to learn something new
>>
This takes me back. Everything online felt so clean. So inspiring. It was like a mini second childhood due to the sheer wonder of it all.

Country side stores where fiber optic cables or internet towers Arent present. Mostly in America since it is so big

Sort of based.
>>
You’ve got no mail
>>
I 'member when it cost money per hour and you'd wrap up whatever you were doing to avoid paying for another hour.

I'd rather put up with dialup again than deal with the cancer that infected the internet in the past decade, especially in /pol/.
>>
>>517716269
Been dead for a while, old man
>>
But the AOL service will still exist? As in you can click on the AOL icon on your desktop, it will load the software, and you can login with your AOL username and password over broadband? Get the fuck outta here.

eh, the "old" internet to me (2001-2006 golden age and 2007-2012 silver age) died around 2014 or so. It's been fucking nigger and gay since then.

Such accuracy at this late date here. But the golden age of the Internet was really 1998-2005, silver age 2006-2011, bronze encrusted with AIDS age 2012-now.

I was there as well, it was comfy. I was young as fuck, but I was there. Women wore turtlenecks and skirts and hardly a darkie around anywhere ever and when they were, they were nice like on TV because racism between whites and blacks had pretty much been solved in most places outside of the South.

This was when the internet could only be afforded by mostly middle class whites. The net became too accessible unfortunately.

RIP

I remember AOL chat rooms, “YOU GOT MAIL”. I remember setting up my webcam and chatting with white girls. They would show me their ass, GOOD TIMES.

I remember one time putting a different city for my connection and the bill came back fucking expensive!!! Long distance sucked back then.

>El nunca jugo en open battle net en los 90s con dial up
A jajaja pendejo.

I remember that my 3rd grade teacher in elementary was mad at me for bringing a printed book report using MS Word and it was well substantiated with the power of the internet (Netscape navigator + dial up). She thought that was cheating, more or less like how anti-AI schizos lose their composure nowadays.
Then I made up the information for the next report and presented it using arts and crafts. I got the equivalent of an A+ and a lecture on how that was somehow better.
I learned the lesson that people want to be pandered to, not facts.

I had no idea that was even still a thing.
> dial up on 1200 baud
> average /pol image file is 2+Mb
Still, AOHell was the beginning of the end. The first commercialized curated front-end-controlled internet access. Almost as bad as WebTV.

Was on aol in 95. To me it's 95-2008 as the best years then 09-14 as the 'wtf is going on here?' years. Then like you said, everything after has been a quick race to the bottom.
