They had actually built one. It was just a bit shitty.>INB4 slavesSteam engines can simply produce more power than slaves. They are good at tasks like pumping water and would simply pump more at a lower cost. Its a bit like the chinese discovering gunpowder and only making fireworks
>>517719590why don't you develop ftl ? you actually built one but it was shitty>INB4 rocket enginesftl engines can simply travel faster than rocket engines. they are good at tasks like getting you to other solar systems at lower cost and fasterIts a bit like the ancient peoples discovering steam engines and only making toys
>>517719590Metallurgy hadn't progressed adequately to produce vessels that could hold the pressure required for steam engines or gunpowder to be useful
>>517719590They lacked even the basic physics of Newton. No mathematical tools with which to even discuss it and in spite of atheist propaganda, they did not think in the manner of Europeans after the 16th century.
>>517719906>you actually built one but it was shittyNo one has developed an FTL, shitty or otherwise
>>517720331we might have but we don't know the potential of what we discovered yet just like chinx with gunpowder and that steam engine
>>517720075>Metallurgy hadn't progressed adequately to produce vessels that could hold the pressure required for steam engines or gunpowder to be usefulPeople have made wooden cannons, most ancient cannos were hollowed tree trunks held with iron bracings.Newcomen's engine was made of cast iron, which was first made 2500 years ago
>>517720477>we might haveno
>>517720562you don't know what you don't know
>>517720208>they did not think in the manner of Europeans after the 16th century. They sought profit above all else
>>517720075This. The reality is that most inventions aren't new ideas, but people taking new materials and resources and making old ideas possible. Everybody knew that you could push stuff around with gas and you could use steam to do work all the way back to the ancient egyptians, what with Hero's aeliopile in the OP, but until the industrial revolution there wasn't strong enough metal cylinders to hold enough steam to do enough work to make it worth messing with compared to just doing shit by hand.It was advancements in manufacturing that invented the steam engine, not some big light bulb moment. And that's true of just about every invention out there. Very rare is an invention that came from a totally unique thought.
>>517721465>P, but until the industrial revolution there wasn't strong enough metal cylindersBronze is good enough for steam engines, and newcomen's engine was made of cast iron and wood. First cannons were made of wood, you are falling for obvious though-terminating cliches
>>517719590>Why didnt ancient peoples develop steam enginesSlaves. Your INB4 doesn't negate the correct answer.
>>517720075This nigga knows. Even in the last 30 years metallurgy has come forward hugely. 'Member how cars used to need a new exhaust every 5 years and now you never think about it?However OP should definitely make a bronze steam bomb and livestream the results.
>>517722912bronze was expensive. would you really buy a horse drawn cart for 5 million dollars or just hire some dudes to carry you somewhere. the wooden cannons were expensive and fucking exploded. you could have a few of them, or hire an entire village and arm them with swords. which you fucking need ANYWAYS when your wooden cannon uh, kills....4 people and then you need to reload the fucking thing with...the army youve...already....paid....reddit spacing...foremphasis.we have VASTLY better tech and can make those cannons and make them well, out of wood. we can remake the steam engine in ops picture. but fucking why, that shit is worthless even with the advanced tech
