It is too late for the whole 'Nothing is going to happen' dribble. If anything, things won't stop happening, and they will only escalate. Every protest that sprouts will become another crisis. The precedent of deploying the national guard to Los Angeles will become standard procedure, and God forbid the national guard gets overwhelmed in any of these massive democrat stronghold cities with hundreds of thousands of people who hate their guts (like it already is).

Keep in mind the national guard is also not that convicted in curbing the protests, just like law enforcement in these cities are. The US military has too many hispanic elements and people who are there to get documents. So ironically, the national guard coming to protect ICE forces the common foederati soldier to act against their own people. So it is a matter of time before the national guard gets overwhelmed, since they are growing outnumbered, don't have the will to fight for Trump, and frankly have nothing to gain from this entire mess.

In Brazil, we pay extra to shock batallions that are particularly trained to beat protestors into submission. But those are in the military police. The national guard is not trained to fight civilians, they should just point bayonets to them in case they violate Supreme Court rulings in very extreme cases (done once before Trump).

The national guard is meant for war, not for police duty.

Look at it chronologically. Southern states governors who were cowardly and incompetent got cornered politically. They did nothing when some southern ANTIFA-like people raided a federal government compound Fort Sumter (think of an ICE compound) and arrested federal government workers. There isn’t really a firm divide in society here, no big split, but a ton of fractures.

More likely this seems to be more similar, to me at least, to China during the breakdown of Han or more recently in the collapse of Qing.

Han seems more relevant to me as they still all nominally recognized the Emperor and kept him around as a puppet, I can imagine a scenario where the USA is still nominally united but various factions basically do whatever they want only giving lip service to the central government and possibly vying for control over it.

In fact arguably this is happening already, the presidency is less of an office and more of a prize to be won by various factions. And of course there is rampant banditry which will only increase, alongside local vigilantes rising up as in the Chinese story Outlaws of the Marshland.

Overall a time of chaos rather than a firm split along strict ideological or other lines.

In many ways I think modern America and China have quite a lot in common, much more than America and Europe despite the ethnic connection.
