People started panic buy PC:s 2 weeks ago around the world because they think they need Windows 11 instead of Windows 10, now that Windows 10 end of life is at hand

https://nerds.xyz/2025/10/pc-sales-q3-2025-windows-11-upgrade/

IDC says global PC shipments jumped 9.4 percent in Q3 2025, reaching nearly 76 million units. Asia and Japan led the growth thanks to school projects and corporate refreshes tied to Windows 10's end of support. North America was the weak link, with tariffs and economic unease keeping buyers on the sidelines even as aging fleets strain under Windows 11 pressure.

https://my.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS53855725&_gl=1*11g6ozd*_ga*MTc5ODM3NzA1NC4xNzM5NDc0MTky*_ga_541ENG1F9X*czE3NTk5NDQ4ODAkbzIzMCRnMSR0MTc1OTk0NjAyNSRqNTEkbDAkaDA.*_gcl_aw*R0NMLjE3NTk3MDY5OTIuQ2p3S0NBanc2UDNHQmhCVkVpd0FKUGptTGhBVGdld0gtTi1oNjRCZEQ4UG9hTmRadnV4ODdNYjdhSlR6THhpY0FxMzlTeGhwenYxc1lSb0M5U2NRQXZEX0J3RQ..*_gcl_au*MTMxMjk5NTQzLjE3NTUyNjk1Mzg.

Lenovo kept its top spot with 25.5 percent market share, followed by HP at 19.8 and Dell at 13.3. Apple and ASUS both posted double-digit growth. IDC's takeaway is clear: the PC market is not surging on flashy new features, it is being pulled forward by deadlines, old batteries, and the reality that five-year-old laptops do not cut it anymore.

FireFox ESR is still supported.
Superium or Thorium works too.

the amount of perfectly fine computers being phased out for windows 11 is huge and prices for computers are only getting more expensive. The only thing you can do with them now is install linux on them i guess. But keeping old windows PC to use offline is fine.
>>
>>518421192
what's a good PC desktop brand besides Apple imac? Dell, lenvano and asus?

Win95 bros unite

One that you chose the parts for and put together yourself.

Lenvano, Dehl, Aitchpee, and Aceoos are all pretty decent, yeah

$1,500 all up..
She browses the web and stores a few photos in the cloud.
Refused my help. Could've gotten her a 10100F or something ~$200 AUD all up.

yeah but for 1500 you can get a pretty nice dell or hp for boomer needs. If you can get a 10th gen intel pc for 200 even better. Only problem with these office desktops is they have so many factory problems around the pandemic.

also coming up for 1500 you can get a prebuilt like ibuypower for a really good discount this coming black friday

You missed the point. She literally does just web browsing and a few bits and pieces here and there.
An i5-2500k + 8GB of RAM would suit her just fine. It's just Jewdows and Jewoffice.

a 2500k CPU is worth 10 bucks, motherboard for it is 5 to 15 bucks and 8GB of DDR3 is nearly free especially if its slower than the fastest speed variety
>>
>>518424356
the web browsing is so bloated now though that they can get away with pushing higher and higher requirements. But a big part of the problem is windows is more complex and the kernel is becoming more hardened.
>>
>>518421192
I'm stoked to buy used parts off retards

Will massgrave stop working after Microsoft ends official support for win10? I should probably download that new win10 version that gets support for another 10 years but I'm lazy and would just use MG to activate it.
>>
Why aren't non-home computers running Windows 10 Enterprise IoT LTSC?

I don't know why you make this thread all the time. Just admit you bought 11 like a fucking goof and are assmad.
>>
>>518421192
Didn’t we just do this a few years ago? I don’t remember being forced to upgrade my os until windows 10, but I haven’t worked in IT since like 2005. We definitely had computers running various versions of xp and nt at the same time though.
>>
>>518424794
I dont know, it seems all businesses insist on running normal Widnows 10 version for some reason

Even schools do that

I have never actually seen an Enterprise Linux outside of home use of the more knowledgeable persons

And I work in IT support
>>
My 2012 thinkpad is still going strong on windows 7. Been using it constantly for 13 years with zero problems
>>
>>518424747
Jump on LTSC IoT 2021.
>>
>>518424747
you can get extended support for a few years but I don't think they will do 10 years
>>
>>518424843
Thanks for the thread to remind me finnbro and all of your hard work, I'm looking at their site right now and it looks simple enough to just upgrade my current win10 to LTSC so I'll try that. Gonna be set until 2032!

>>518424948
Yep looking it up now, I didn't realize the upgrade would be so easy.

>>518424857
It's definitely (((spooky))) that it works and micro$oft doesn't do shit to stop it, but all they'll get from me is my hentai collection if they're spooks.

Fucking hell I can't imagine living life as a windows normie piece of shit.
Imagine having to buy new hardware because Bill Gates said so. I mean, they injected themselves with random mystery juice because Bill Gates said so so I guess I shouldn't be surprised but fucking hell. Having a garbage OS blue screening on you at random, littered with ads and slow as fuck, just to browse some JS bloated boomer social media also littered with ads... I can't even conceive this.

t. Systemd-free Gentoo chad btw.
>>
>>518421192
>tons of win 10 machines will be for sale cheap
based.
>>
I don't know why people still think they need Windows just to browse the web and type documents.
>>
>>518425123
Microsoft doesn't stop it because the model of selling software is just side money for them now. They want everything to be subscription based. I don't like it because I would rather purchase a license even a cheap OEM resell than get my windows through a github repository.
>>
>>518424938
That's retarded. And insecure. The whole point of Enterprise Windows versions is they're more secure and have less vulnerabilities and better updates because business software is supposed to be secure to prevent espionage.
>>
>>518421192
>now that Windows 10 end of life is at hand
why do people repeat this lie over and over
windows 10 officially ends in 2032
>>
XP was the best, but 11 is one of the rare good ones.
>>
Unpopular opinion: 11 is better than 10. AITA?
>>
>>518425344
only for those who understand to use non home / non professional version of windows 10 and it seems 70% of users are on those

Most based and redpilled processor
I had one and it lasted ages

Chipsets are updated far too frequently now.
It's anti-consumer
>>
>>518425385
why do you think 11 is better than 10?

10 was awesome and I see nothing better in win11
>>
>>518421192
>and the reality that five-year-old laptops do not cut it anymore
That's not reality though. Nobody wants to upgrade their hardware, everything they need runs fine. Windows is forcing everyone to do it. I'm still playing AAA new releases on a GTX 970 ffs. Technology hasn't improved enough to warrant an upgrade, that's why it's being forced on us.
>>
>>518425518
windows 10 updated once and completely deleted my network driver for one. overbloat was another issue. they had this really bad tendency from 7 on to slowly become more like a fucking tablet or phone OS that locked you out of customization and command options where my new pc with 11 allows me to fuck around as much as i like.

Yeah I'm not buying shit or upgrading shit.

I use ublock origin, I'll be fine.
