I live in a state that has no state minimum wage, so you're going to be VERY LUCKY if you get $9 an hour working one of those bullshit retail or fast food jobs. You're realistically only going to be paid the $7.25. Those EXACT SAME APARTMENTS that cost $200 in the mid 90's are still standing, and now cost $1,800 a month. That puts a minimum wage worker, just sharing the apartment, at having to work over 120 hours just to cover their half the rent, and that's the gross pay, before taxes. Realistically they'd probably have to work 160 hours (that's 40 hours a week) JUST to cover half of the rent, leaving nothing for even FOOD. So, to repeat, a full workload of 40hrs a week at minimum wage, just to be able to share an apartment, and absolutely NOTHING left for even food. NOTHING LEFT.It is, undeniably, COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE NOW for a college student to work a part-time minimum wage job just to keep a roof over their head in my town. IMPOSSIBLE. So unless you have a family to pay for your education, or unless you go deep into unforgiveable debt, you are FUCKED. You canNOT get ANYWHERE.
