Seems like you're just being a contratrain hipster for the sake of being a contrtarian hipster with the VHS tapes. By all means collect them, use a crt and mantain copies of physical media, but for gods sake backup those vhs tapes to a more stable format and use a better imput than tape media. There's peripherals to convert digital formats like dvd and bluray with better color and resolution to an analog imput your screen will nativity display at the highest resolution it's capable because it is analog. The exception is things like old games where the color design was specifically built around taking the bloom of crt monitors into account to achieve smoother more natural looking images despite the pixel limitations. This isn't the case for theatrically released films though and you're just choosing to get a worse viewing experience there.

Analog has better darks and blacks, simply because of the bit depth problem. The industry has responded to this finally with several competing standards which require compatible displays. But it's kind of a hack, the way they do it is by setting true black to like the 4th bit and encoding the 12 bits of actual signal above that.A properly done Laserdisc still looks as good as any newer format, better in fact because digital color grading has ruined a lot of old films.
