I still think he was wearing some sort of metal plate the deflected the bullet upwards. It would make sense that they would keep that under wraps if he was worried about getting taken out, which apparently he was. I don't buy any of the "bullet got lodged in his neck" bs, and Nick isn't begin completely honest about the manner. There's always stupid conspiracies every time some incident happens and the facts don't quite match up. After 9/11 there was nonsense about holograms, nonexistent planes and missiles, and a lot of that is spread on purpose as a smokescreen.
