Hungary's Orbán Launches Petition Against EU's 'War Plan' for Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has initiated a nationwide petition against what he terms the European Union's "war plan" to finance Ukraine's defense against Russia. The move follows a recent informal EU summit in Copenhagen where leaders discussed proposals to increase support for Kyiv.
Orbán announced that his Fidesz party would gather signatures across the country to demonstrate public opposition to the EU's strategy. He characterized the plan as one where "Europe pays, the Ukrainians fight, and Russia will eventually be exhausted," stating that Hungary wants no part in it.
The petition is the latest in a series of actions by Orbán's government that have challenged the united EU front on Ukraine. Budapest has repeatedly obstructed aid packages for Kyiv and opposed sanctions against Moscow. Orbán also remains a firm opponent of fast-tracking Ukraine's EU membership, arguing it would draw the bloc directly into the conflict. This signature-gathering campaign is a familiar tactic for the Hungarian government, which has previously used "national consultations" to reinforce its position on issues such as migration and LGBTQ rights.

Ukrainian Drone Unit Halts Russian Armored Assault in Donetsk Region

Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces have released combat footage showing the destruction of a Russian armored column, including five tanks and a BM-21 "Grad" multiple launch rocket system, in the Donetsk region.
Operators from the 427th "Rarog" Unmanned Systems Regiment used first-person-view (FPV) drones to repel the assault, according to a statement from the unit. The footage, which has been edited to show multiple strikes, depicts drones targeting and neutralizing the Russian vehicles. Among the destroyed equipment was at least one T-80 tank.
"Operators... stopped the enemy's assault actions by hitting the tanks, which deprived the infantry groups of cover and made a further offensive impossible," the Unmanned Systems Forces stated. The video also shows strikes on Russian infantry, some using motorcycles and buggies for transport, as well as the destruction of a military truck that was transporting a howitzer. The engagement resulted in a secondary explosion, indicating the truck was carrying ammunition.

Ukraine hit Russian energy sites with US help

1/?

The US has for months been helping Ukraine mount long-range strikes on Russian energy facilities, in what officials say is a co-ordinated effort to weaken Vladimir Putin’s economy and force him to the negotiating table.

American intelligence shared with Kyiv has enabled strikes on important Russian energy assets including oil refineries far beyond the frontline, according to multiple Ukrainian and US officials familiar with the campaign.

The previously unreported support has intensified since midsummer and has been crucial in helping Ukraine carry out attacks that Joe Biden’s White House discouraged. Kyiv’s strikes have driven up energy prices in Russia and prompted Moscow to cut diesel exports and import fuel.

The intelligence sharing is the latest sign that Trump has deepened his support for Ukraine as his frustration with Russia has grown.

The shift came after a phone call between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in July, when the FT reported the US president asked whether Ukraine could strike Moscow if Washington provided long-range weapons.

Trump signalled his backing for a strategy to “make them [Russians] feel the pain” and compel the Kremlin to negotiate, said the two people briefed on the call. The White House later said Trump was “merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing”.

The US intelligence helps Kyiv shape route planning, altitude, timing and mission decisions, enabling Ukraine’s long-range, one-way attack drones to evade Russian air defences, said the officials familiar with the matter.

Three people familiar with the operation said Washington was closely involved in all stages of planning. A US official said Ukraine selected the targets for long-range strikes and Washington then provided intelligence on the sites vulnerabilities.
>>
>>518695101
2/?

But others involved and briefed on the operations said the US had also set out target priorities for the Ukrainians. One of them described Kyiv’s drone force as the “instrument” for Washington to undermine Russia’s economy and push Putin towards a settlement.

Trump has been open about his disappointment with Putin since he rolled out the red carpet for his Russian counterpart at an Alaska summit that made little tangible progress. This was a factor in Trump’s shift in support of deeper strikes, the people said.

Washington has long shared intelligence with Kyiv to assist in attacks on Russian military targets in occupied areas of Ukraine, and to provide advanced warning of Russian missile and drone strikes. The Biden administration approved strikes with US Himars and Atacms missiles inside a Russian region bordering Ukraine after North Korea deployed troops there to bolster Moscow’s forces.

But the US has not acknowledged a direct role in Ukraine’s strikes on Russian energy facilities. Washington has long remained cautious about actions that could escalate the war and draw it more directly into conflict with Moscow.

The growing operational support from the Trump administration starkly contrasts with earlier in the US president’s second term, when he briefly halted intelligence sharing and military aid to Kyiv to pressure it into peace talks with Moscow.

Zelenskyy declined to speak about US intelligence’s role in his army’s deep strikes inside Russia in a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday. But he said Ukraine was “working with US intelligence, primarily to defend ourselves”, referring to the Patriot, Nasams and Iris-T air defence systems provided by western partners.

Ukraine’s recent success with deep strikes was mostly because of technological upgrades to drones and increased domestic production, which has allowed Kyiv to launch more at once. “Our drones, drone-missiles and some missiles are getting better: more uses, greater production,” he said.

Most of the deep strikes are conducted by Ukraine’s SBU security service and the Unmanned Systems Forces branch of the country’s Armed Forces. But other intelligence and military units also play roles in the attacks.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s Fire Point and Liutyi long-range drones — sometimes up to 300 in a single operation — had led the swarm attacks. But Ukrainian forces had also recently fired domestically-produced Neptune and Flamingo missiles at targets inside Russia.

On Saturday, the SBU said its elite Alpha unit’s long-range drones had successfully hit the Bashneft-UNPZ oil refinery in Ufa, some 1,400 kilometres from Ukraine. The plant is one of the largest refineries in Russia, supplying fuel and lubricants to the Russian army.

It marked the third strike on energy facilities in Russia’s Bashkortostan region in the past month.

The SBU told the FT its “long-range strikes are aimed at destroying the enemy’s military potential — including its economic capabilities”. It added Kyiv would work to increase the number and breadth of strikes within Russia.

A White House official said the war “never would have happened” under a Trump presidency and that he was “trying to get it stopped”. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Defense declined to comment.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov earlier this month said it was “obvious” the US and Nato were providing intelligence to Ukraine “on a regular basis” including for strikes on Russian energy targets.

Trump has not decided whether to provide long-range missiles to Ukraine, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, saying on Monday he wanted to find out more about how they would be used.

Zelenskyy on Wednesday said the Tomahawk option was being considered and it “could strengthen Ukraine and sober the Russians up a bit”.
>>

4/4

Soon after the July call, the four people familiar with the Ukrainian deep strike drone operation said US intelligence with a new level of specificity began flowing to Kyiv. That information has allowed Kyiv to better map Russian air defences and plot strike routes.

The tempo of Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil and gas facilities and pipelines that underpin Moscow’s war effort escalated dramatically in August and September. The damage forced Moscow to curtail diesel exports and increased its reliance on imported fuel.

At least 16 of the country’s 38 oil refineries have been struck, some repeatedly, disrupting more than 1mn barrels a day of refining capacity, according to Energy Aspects, a research group. Russian social media videos, verified by the Financial Times and independent analysts, have shown numerous large oil and gas facilities in flames.

Zelenskyy on Wednesday said Moscow was importing petrol — “notably from Belarus and China” — and had restricted exports. Russia likely lost up to 20 per cent of fuel production capacity because of the Ukrainian strikes, he added.

deeply concerned that serious money is going into new hardware like IFVs and tanks but little progress is in the field of mini SPAAG bolt on. That can be mounted on existing machines and acts as a hard kill counter to drones. EW can only do so much in between counter measures and fiber optic wires

lasers are unpractical with the available batteries but something like belt feed buckshot rounds getting spammed from a auto shotty or even flak rounds with automated guidance system. That uses existing calibers for ease of manufacture

Dedicated SPAAGs like leopard are a patch work as it cant deal with multiple attacks from multiple directions. like drone swarms

New details have emerged about the German government's role under former Chancellor Angela Merkel in modernizing the Russian military, raising profound questions about Berlin's influence on European security in the years leading up to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Before Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, Merkel's government supported an extensive military partnership that included plans for German defense giant Rheinmetall to build a state-of-the-art combat simulation center for the Russian army. In June 2011, Rheinmetall secured a contract to construct the facility in Mulino, a major military base east of Moscow, modeled after the German army's own Altmark training ground. The center, designed to train up to 30,000 soldiers a year in modern warfare, was part of a larger ambition. Documents suggest plans were being developed for up to eight additional training facilities, a deal potentially worth around one billion euros.
This military-technical cooperation was underpinned by a political strategy of engagement. Berlin officials believed that close ties would foster trust and stability. However, this policy is now viewed in a harsher light, particularly following Merkel's role at the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest. There, she was instrumental in blocking the Membership Action Plan (MAP) for Ukraine and Georgia, effectively vetoing their path to joining the alliance. Though NATO's final declaration stated the two countries "will become members," the decision to deny them a clear roadmap was a victory for Moscow. Just months later, Russia invaded Georgia.

The training center project was ultimately halted by Merkel's coalition government following the 2014 annexation of Crimea, but not before significantly contributing to the modernization of the same army that would later wage war on Ukraine. The facility was reportedly completed by Russia and used in the "Zapad 2021" military exercises, which many analysts now see as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 invasion.

Zelenskyy Praises Trump's Mideast Ceasefire Deal, Urges Similar Action for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he held a "positive and productive" phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday, congratulating him on brokering a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Mr. Zelenskyy expressed hope that this diplomatic success could serve as a model for ending the war in Ukraine.
"I congratulated President Trump on the success and the Middle East deal he was able to secure, which is an outstanding achievement," Mr. Zelenskyy stated in a social media post. "If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war."
The call took place a day after Russia launched another wave of large-scale drone and missile attacks against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing widespread power outages. Mr. Zelenskyy said he briefed President Trump on the attacks and discussed the urgent need to bolster Ukraine's air defenses.
"I informed President Trump about Russia's attacks on our energy system—and I appreciate his willingness to support us," Mr. Zelenskyy wrote, adding that they discussed "good options and solid ideas" for strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
The conversation also reportedly touched on the possibility of supplying Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles to enhance its ability to strike distant Russian targets, though no final decision has been made. Mr. Zelenskyy emphasized that ending the conflict requires Russia to engage in "real diplomacy," which he said could be "achieved through strength."

Ukrainian Drones Reportedly Strike Russian Missile Factory in Smolensk

Explosions were reported in the Russian city of Smolensk early on Sunday morning, with Ukrainian sources and geolocated video footage suggesting a drone attack targeted the Smolensk Aviation Plant, a key facility producing cruise missiles used in the war against Ukraine.
Social media channels began reporting explosions and showed images of smoke rising over an industrial area of the city shortly after a drone alert was issued in the region. OSINT analysts geolocated the smoke to the vicinity of the aviation plant. The facility is known for manufacturing Kh-59 tactical air-to-surface missiles and components for the long-range Kh-101 cruise missile, both of which have been used extensively in strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
The governor of Russia's Smolensk Oblast, Vasily Anokhin, stated that two drones had been shot down and that there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure. However, reports from the ground and geointelligence analysis indicated a potential impact at the plant.
The Smolensk plant has been targeted by Ukrainian forces on previous occasions. An attack in January 2025 was reported by Ukrainian intelligence to have disrupted the production process for Kh-59 missiles. The facility is under international sanctions by the European Union and others for its role in Russia's war effort.
There was no immediate official comment from the Ukrainian side regarding the specific attack. Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed it had intercepted a total of 32 Ukrainian drones overnight across the Bryansk, Belgorod, and Smolensk regions.

Ukrainian Partisans Claim Sabotage of Key Russian Military Rail Hub

The Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar resistance group "Atesh" has claimed responsibility for a "successful sabotage" operation on a crucial railway hub in Novocherkassk, in Russia's Rostov Oblast, disrupting the logistics of Moscow's war effort.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group said its agents had targeted the railway infrastructure, leading to a breakdown in the schedule for military trains carrying equipment and troops to the southern front in Ukraine.
"This railway hub is key for the transfer of ammunition, weapons, and personnel to the southern direction," the Atesh statement read. "It is through Novocherkassk that the occupiers regularly supply shells for artillery and rockets for multiple launch rocket systems."
The partisans asserted that the disruption would create a "chain reaction of delays in critically important supplies for the occupying groups." They added that the "violation of the transport schedule will directly affect the intensity of shelling of Ukrainian cities and the combat capability of enemy units." The specific nature of the sabotage was not detailed.
The Rostov region, which borders eastern Ukraine, serves as a primary logistical base for the Russian military's operations. The Novocherkassk hub is a vital artery for supplying forces engaged in the southern sectors of the conflict.

Russia May Pose a Significant Threat to NATO Much Sooner Than Previously Assessed

1/2

Russia may be able to pose a significant threat to NATO on a timeline much sooner than the 2036 timeframe predicted by some Western intelligence agencies, and it may be able to do so without a full reconstitution of its armored fleet. Russia's ongoing sabotage, espionage, and drone reconnaissance activities against military bases and critical infrastructure in Europe indicate that Moscow has already entered "Phase Zero"—the informational and psychological condition-setting phase—of a campaign to prepare for a possible future war with NATO.
These activities, combined with Russia's long-range strike capabilities and expanding drone production, represent an immediate threat to the Alliance. Russia is actively forming new military forces and creating a strategic personnel reserve, demonstrating an ability to regenerate manpower despite heavy losses in Ukraine. This suggests Russia will likely have significant combat power available within months of the cessation of active hostilities in Ukraine, which it could rapidly deploy to NATO's eastern flank.
Furthermore, the Russian military is developing new operational concepts and tactics that enable large-scale combat operations without heavy reliance on tanks and armored vehicles, while simultaneously working to deny an adversary the ability to use them. There are no indications that the Kremlin intends to wait for a full military rebuild before it is willing to launch aggressive actions against NATO countries. Russia is gaining extensive experience in modern, large-scale warfare and will be able to leverage this experience to create new threats immediately after the war in Ukraine concludes. Therefore, NATO must be prepared to deter and neutralize these challenges on a much shorter timeline than is commonly assumed.
>>
>>518695969
2/2

Recent increases in unidentified drone sightings over military and critical infrastructure in countries including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Germany, and France are likely part of this intensified Russian condition-setting effort. These incursions should be seen as part of a broader pattern of Russian hybrid warfare activities designed to test NATO's reactions and prepare the operational environment for potential future conflict.

North Korea Parades New Modular Multiple Rocket Launcher

North Korea has unveiled a new wheeled multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) that bears a strong resemblance to the US M142 HIMARS, signaling a strategic shift towards more mobile and modular artillery platforms. The system was displayed during a large-scale military parade in Pyongyang on October 10, 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The new launcher is mounted on a 6x6 truck chassis and features an armored cab and a self-loading, pod-based ammunition system, key design characteristics of the HIMARS and the South Korean K239 Chunmoo. While the US HIMARS typically carries a single pod of six 227 mm rockets, the new North Korean system was shown with a twin-pod configuration, significantly increasing its potential firepower per salvo. This dual-pod design is more analogous to the tracked M270 MLRS or the wheeled K239 Chunmoo.
Analysis of parade footage reveals the system's modularity, with different vehicles displaying various ordnance loadouts. One variant was equipped with two pods, each containing nine launch tubes, likely for 240 mm rockets. Another appeared configured to carry a mix of rocket pods and short-range ballistic missiles, similar to how HIMARS can fire both GMLRS rockets and a single ATACMS missile. This indicates a versatile design intended to engage targets at various ranges with different munitions.

The development of this system underscores a trend in North Korea's defense industry of emulating Western military hardware concepts to enhance mobility, precision, and operational flexibility. While no official designation or performance specifications have been released, the adoption of a modular, "shoot-and-scoot" capable artillery system marks a significant evolution in the Korean People's Army's conventional strike capabilities. The parade also featured North Korea's previously identified 600 mm "super-large" MLRS, designated KN-25, which blurs the line between rocket artillery and ballistic missiles.

Pink Missiles: How Ukraine’s Female Warriors Are Trolling Russia

1/?

Last week drone makers Wild Hornets delivered a special batch of their Sting interceptor drones. The only difference from the standard Shahed-killer is that these Stings were pink, for a unit with a female commander and female operators. This is one of many examples of women making their presence visible in the conflict.

The war against Russia is also a culture war, and Ukraine’s female warriors leverage the worst fears of their macho opponents.

Integrated, To A Degree
In theory Ukraine’s armed forces are highly integrated, but only about 70,000 women are serving in the military, and of these just 5,500 are in combat zones. Activists says that sexism is still a problem, and while there are a few prominent women, they still complain about entrenched attitudes.

This is a military which only emerged relatively recently from the Soviet system, and many of the senior officers are seen as remnants of the Soviet days. A 2018 survey found that 53% of Ukrainians supported the idea of equality between women and men in the military. By March 2023, after the invasion, this had risen to 80%.

In May, the 13th National Guard Khartiia Brigade launched the first ever campaign aimed directly at recruiting women.

Ukrainian media have celebrated all-female units, such as the Witches of Bucha, a volunteer air defence unit, one of many mobile fire teams tasked with shooting down Shahed drones with light anti-aircraft weapons. Since attacks are usually at night, the Witches combine fighting drones with day jobs including a teacher, a doctor, and a nail technician. Members say that taking an active role overcomes the feeling of helplessness from night after night of drone attacks.
>>
>>518696408

Women are operating drones too. In April the Unmanned Systems Forces started recruiting for an all-female ‘Harpies’ unit with FPVs and bomber drones. The unit will not exclude men, but “the role of pilots who deliver the final blow will be performed exclusively by women,” according to an official statement.

This will help boost recruitment of female drone operators by ensuring a supportive environment. It is also a great way of trolling the Russians. The Russian army is extremely traditional in gender roles, fostering an ultra-macho environment in which strength, toughness and violent bullying are proud traditions. Being targeted by women is likely to be seen as emasculating.

Queens And Aces

Some female drone operators are already legends. Katerina Troian, callsign ‘Meow’, died in a Russian artillery strike in June 2025. She was a noted FPV pilot with over a thousand missions to her credit. Rather than trying to blend in with the men, Meow stood out with blue hair and cats’ ears.

Another operator, 19-year-old ‘Yunha’ told RBC-Ukraine that, after initially not being taken seriously because she was a girl, things changed in combat.

“Real training only begins in the combat zone,” says Yunha. “You learn to make decisions on the fly. This isn't a computer game. It's a place where anything can happen, at any moment, and you have to be ready for that.”

Again, FPV skills and focus, attention and calmness, have helped Yunha rack up numerous kills.

"I understand that taking out equipment, artillery, and other large, massive targets is definitely more strategically valuable, but when you're terrorizing and eliminating infantry, it honestly brings more satisfaction," she says.

This message may be meant for the Russians. But it is a challenge to anyone who does not think women in the military should be taken seriously. Yunha may not look like a stereotypical warrior, but her record speaks for itself.

Flamingo Cruise Missile: Think Pink

Ukraine’s new FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile sends the same message. The name, and the pink paint job seen on prototypes, were the choice of a woman in the design team, who wanted to highlight this female contribution to the war effort. Production missiles will not have the conspicuous coloring, as it makes launchers too visible. But even the Flamingo’s name strikes a definite contrast to Russian missiles like Kinzhal (“Dagger”).

The bacth of pink Wasp interceptors are similarly a visible sign that women are taking part in the defense of Ukraine.

In Russia, women have a different role. The female snipers and fighter pilots of WWII have been consigned to history. Instead, to celebrate International Women’s Day the United Russia Women’s Movement, affiliated with Putin’s ruling party, sent flowers to the mothers of soldiers fighting in Ukraine. In the Russian city of Cheboksary, local officials organized an event for the widows and mothers of fallen soldiers, with bouquets and gift bags labeled “Happiness and Joy.” Women are not soldiers; they raise soldiers.

Meanwhile in America, at the recent gathering of generals Pete Hegseth claimed that U.S. military standards had been lowered to admit women and that they would be raised again.

"If it means no women qualify for combat jobs, then so be it," said Hegseth, though he insisted that women would not be completely excluded from the armed forces.

Some women serving in the U.S. military were angered by the statements, seeing them as baseless. Others believe Hegseth wants to remove women from the military.

As many commentators have noted, even in a drone war soldiers need high standards of physical fitness. The ‘grey zone’ where drones rapidly destroy vehicles mean that in Ukraine troops often end up carrying heavy packs for long distances. They also have to live in difficult conditions for long periods. The number of effective female drone operators in Ukraine suggests that women can carry out these roles.

Expect to see more bright pink drones terrorising Russian forces in future.

Kremlin Says Russia Ready for Peace Talks, Blames EU and Ukraine for Refusal

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday that Russia remains open to a peaceful, diplomatic settlement to the war in Ukraine, asserting that the European Union and Kyiv are unwilling to engage in dialogue.
In comments to Russian state television, Peskov claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump has consistently called for negotiations. "The Russian Federation is ready for a peaceful settlement," Peskov stated. "Trump also calls for sitting down at the negotiating table. But the EU and the Kyiv regime do not want to do anything in this vein."
Peskov described the current situation as "dramatic," accusing unnamed parties of escalating tensions. His remarks come amid heightened concerns in Moscow over the potential supply of long-range U.S. Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, a topic Presidents Trump and Zelenskyy recently discussed. While calling the missiles "serious weapons," Peskov downplayed their potential impact, claiming they would not be able to change the situation on the front lines.
Ukraine has consistently stated its position that negotiations can only begin once Russian troops fully withdraw from all of its internationally recognized territory. The EU has supported Kyiv's peace formula and maintains that it is up to Ukraine to decide the timing and content of any potential talks with Moscow.

Russia's AvtoVAZ: A State Champion Navigates a Sanctioned Market

1/2

AvtoVAZ, the manufacturer of the iconic Lada and Russia's largest carmaker, finds itself in a paradoxical position. Bolstered by massive state support and operating in a market cleared of most Western competitors, the firm is nonetheless facing a significant crisis. Despite plans for record production, its market share is eroding under pressure from a flood of Chinese imports, forcing it to reduce working hours and seek yet more government aid.
After the exit of its former majority shareholder, Renault, in the wake of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, AvtoVAZ became a symbol of Russia's push for "technological sovereignty." The state stepped in, and the company initially benefited, with its market share jumping from around 21% to over 40%. For 2024, the company reported a record production of over 525,000 vehicles, the highest in a decade. However, this success has been overshadowed by a harsh reality. By the start of 2025, AvtoVAZ's market share had fallen to 27%, and by October 2025, it had slid further to just 22%.
The primary cause is the relentless expansion of Chinese automakers. Freed from Western competition, brands like Haval, Chery, and Geely have captured a significant slice of the Russian market, offering models that many consumers find more appealing than the aging Lada lineup. This has forced AvtoVAZ into a difficult corner. In late September 2025, the company moved its production lines for the Vesta and Niva models to a single shift and implemented a four-day work week, citing falling sales and the need to adapt to market conditions. The company's production target for 2025 was consequently revised downwards from 500,000 to just over 300,000 vehicles.
>>
>>518697333
2/2

To survive, AvtoVAZ is leaning heavily on the Kremlin. The company has successfully lobbied for higher recycling fees to make imported cars more expensive, but this has not been enough to stem the tide. Now, it is in talks with the Ministry of Industry and Trade for direct subsidies that would be passed on to customers as discounts. This is in addition to the vast sums already earmarked for the auto sector; industrial subsidies for Russian carmakers are set to more than double in 2025, reaching over 800 billion rubles, and are projected to climb to 1.38 trillion rubles by 2027. For 2025 alone, AvtoVAZ plans an investment program of 45 billion rubles, much of which will require state assistance due to high interest rates. The state champion's fate is now inextricably linked to the depth of the government's pockets and its willingness to shield it from an increasingly competitive, albeit isolated, market.

Russian Strike Causes Region-Wide Blackout in Donetsk

The entire Donetsk region has been left without electricity following a targeted Russian strike on energy infrastructure early on Sunday morning, according to local officials.
Vadym Filashkin, the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that Russian forces had deliberately hit critical energy facilities. "The Donetsk region is without power due to enemy shelling. This morning, the Russians again purposefully struck our energy infrastructure," Filashkin announced on social media.
Repair crews have already been dispatched and are working to restore power as quickly as possible, but the full extent of the damage and a timeline for restoration are still being assessed. In the meantime, authorities have activated "Points of Invincibility"—public shelters providing heat, electricity, and internet access—for residents across the region.
This attack is the latest in a series of escalating Russian assaults on Ukraine's power grid. In recent weeks, Russian forces have intensified strikes on energy facilities across the country, including in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions, leading to widespread power outages as winter approaches.

Death Toll in Lviv Region Strike Rises as Another Victim Dies

The death toll from a Russian missile and drone strike on the Lviv region earlier this month has risen to six, after another victim died in the hospital from injuries sustained in the attack, local authorities reported Sunday.
The massive aerial assault on October 5th struck a residential area in the village of Lapaivka, just outside the regional capital of Lviv. A missile completely destroyed a family home, killing four people, including a 15-year-old girl, at the scene. Another family member, 46-year-old Vitaliy Konstantynov, was pulled from the rubble with severe injuries and hospitalized. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on October 11, raising the number of fatalities from that household to five.
The sixth victim has now been identified, though details of their identity and the circumstances of their death have not been fully released. The October 5th attack was one of the largest on the Lviv region since the start of the full-scale invasion, with Russian forces targeting residential buildings, industrial sites, and energy infrastructure. The strike also injured at least eight other people in the area.

If even a “patriotic but not Z” Russian Telegram group — the sort of space where you'd normally expect macho loyalty, rationalizations, or at least some “we must hold the line” rhetoric — is openly saying “I’m not dying for some old woman’s village” and “money isn’t worth dying for,” that’s a profound cultural rupture.

Let’s break down why this matters so much and what it shows about Russia’s internal war psychology in 2025:

1. Money Has Lost Its Motivational Power

When mobilization began in 2022–23, cash was the regime’s main lever. Soldiers could earn more in a month at the front than in a year of civilian work.
But now:

Ruble inflation has eaten into that value.

The psychological calculation changed: 10 million rubles ≈ one leg or one life.

Most front-line troops come home either crippled, traumatized, or not at all — and everyone knows it.

That’s why you see lines like:

“Even if you give me 20 million, what am I supposed to do with that money — being disabled, or in a coffin?”

It shows collective demoralization has reached the patriotic base itself.

2. The Shift From Propaganda Faith to Existential Dread

Early in the war, the narrative was ideological:

“Nazis,” “defense of the Motherland,” “fight NATO.”

By 2025, after multiple failed offensives and mounting losses, even pro-Russian communities have flipped the frame:

No talk of victory.

Only fear, sarcasm, fatalism.

Hatred redirected inward (toward commanders, Chechens, Central Asians, Shoigu, etc.), not toward Ukraine.

That inward blame is the pre-collapse stage of morale. Soldiers and supporters no longer think in terms of “winning” — they think in terms of avoiding being the next sucker sent to die.

>>
File: vatnigSeethe2.png (1019 KB, 2373x841)
1019 KB
1019 KB PNG
3. The Social Implosion Beneath It

Those chats are a cross-section of a society that’s emotionally burnt out:

Working-class Russians see mobilization as a death sentence.

Regional minorities (Buryats, Dagestanis, etc.) have been used as cannon fodder, fueling resentment.

The middle class is disconnected, cynical, or quietly emigrating.

And even among “patriotic” circles, there’s this creeping realization that no one is coming home whole.

That breeds not resistance in the open (Russia’s repressive apparatus is too strong) — but atomized apathy. A kind of private mutiny, where the population just opts out of belief.

4. Why It’s So Dangerous for the Kremlin

The Russian state’s survival depends on mythic legitimacy — “Russia endures,” “Russians don’t break.”
But that chat shows the opposite: the myth is cracking among the faithful.
Once patriot circles begin mocking the cause and questioning orders, you’ve lost the last buffer before the abyss.

That’s exactly how Afghanistan broke the late Soviet military — not through protest, but through quiet demoralization. Veterans returned home ruined, cynical, alienated — and they became the angry, nihilistic generation that watched the USSR fall.

5. The paradox

Ukraine’s drone dominance has made this even worse:
Russian soldiers aren’t even fighting visible enemies. They’re dying in unseen, mechanical ways — killed by drones, sensors, or mines, never seeing who hit them.
That erases any concept of “heroism” or “valor.”
Death becomes meaningless — a pure statistic.

If the patriotic core is this bitter now, then the Kremlin’s only tools left are coercion, censorship, and fear. But those only delay collapse — they don’t reverse spiritual exhaustion.

Ukrainian Air Assault Forces repelled a major Russian assault on the Dobropillia axis. Russians attempted to capture Vodymyrivka and Sofiivka using 6 tanks, ~40 IFVs, 40+ vehicles, and several hundred troops. Ukraine destroyed 3 tanks, 13 IFVs, 41 vehicles, and eliminated around 100 personnel. Vodymyrivka is now being cleared.

Russian Drone Strike Hits Odesa Infrastructure, Injuring One

A wave of Russian drones struck energy and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine's southern Odesa region overnight, damaging a gas facility, a government building, and a recreation center, and injuring at least one person, local authorities said Sunday.
Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported that the attack targeted multiple districts. In the Podilskyi district, a gas transport infrastructure facility was hit, while in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district, strikes damaged a recreation center, an administrative building, and private homes.
A 34-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized as a result of the strikes.
The attacks also hit an energy facility, contributing to a series of recent Russian assaults on Ukraine's power grid. This latest strike follows a major attack on the Donetsk region's energy system earlier the same day, which caused a region-wide blackout.

Because ziggerdom is more of a religious cult rather than some actual set of beliefs. They believe in Muscovy, its tzar and whatever set of characteristics they pin on them as kacap national ideology is a lack of any. It's easy to see as us, Western supporters say "attacking other countries is bad" and "ruskies are violent retards and thus need to be culled", in different degrees. Of course there are some plebbitors or twats that support Ukraine because they project some gay shit on this war, there is always some kind of retards that are just high on whatever ideology they cling onto. But when you ask kacap supporter it is almost exclusively that and it usually devolves into incoherent rant about jewish nazi nafo globohomo trannies or whatever bullshit they spew.
Hell, actual nationalists in Poland went with support for Ukraine because they seriously believe in "nations should self-govern", they don't want Ukies in Poland, but they see that their own state is easiest way to get rid of them and despite everything they understand cooperation is not bad thing if it's partnership that still allows nations to do whatever the fuck they please within their own country. Hell, I never believed that nationalism could grow the fuck up from looking for lebensraum to "fuck off, we're full".
I for instance believe that turning ruble into rubble is part of Polish raison d'etat and as a patriot I support whatever secures Poland from external threats. My political views are unimportant, it's clear pragmatism.

Zelenskyy: Russia Fired Over 4,500 Drones, Missiles, and Bombs at Ukraine in One Week

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that Russia has dramatically intensified its air campaign, launching over 4,500 projectiles at Ukraine in the past week alone, with a particular focus on the country's energy infrastructure.
In a social media post, Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces had used more than 3,100 drones, 92 missiles, and approximately 1,360 guided aerial bombs (KABs) in attacks across the country over the last seven days. "Russia continues its aerial terror against our cities and communities, and is intensifying its strikes on our energy sector," he wrote.
The president highlighted the human cost of the bombardment, referencing a recent attack in Kostiantynivka where a child was killed by an aerial bomb strike on a church.

Zelenskyy suggested that Moscow was escalating its attacks while global attention is focused on the peace process in the Middle East. He urged international partners to maintain pressure on Russia through sanctions and tariffs to limit its ability to finance the war. The statement came a day after Zelenskyy discussed the potential transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles with U.S. President Donald Trump to bolster Ukraine's defenses.

Kyiv Police Charge Man for Harassing Street Musician in Wheelchair

Police in Kyiv have charged a 29-year-old man with petty hooliganism after a video circulated online showing him verbally harassing a street musician in a wheelchair for refusing to perform a song in Russian.
The incident took place several days ago in the capital's Darnytskyi district. The footage shows the man aggressively demanding the musician, Ivan Zamiha, sing in Russian. When Zamiha, a well-known performer from Kryvyi Rih who often raises money for the Ukrainian military, politely declined, the man began shouting obscenities and threatening him.
Authorities identified the suspect after the video gained widespread attention on social media. In his statement to the police, the man, a Kyiv resident, claimed he was intoxicated and could not explain his actions. He was brought to the Darnytskyi police precinct, where an administrative case was filed against him under Article 173 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

Russian Drone Attack on Kyiv Region Substation Injures Two Energy Workers

A Russian drone attack on an energy substation in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region injured two employees of the DTEK energy company on Sunday, Ukrainian officials reported.
The attack occurred after an air raid alert had ended, as the workers were engaged in restoration efforts at the facility. According to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, both men were hospitalized.
One of the employees suffered shrapnel wounds to the head, chest, arms, and legs, while the other sustained an ear injury and abrasions to his limbs. Kalashnyk confirmed that both were receiving all necessary medical care.
The strike also caused partial power outages in three settlements within the district, leaving 9,607 families temporarily without electricity. DTEK repair crews are working to restore service, officials said.

Man Attacked With Tear Gas Outside Kyiv Synagogue in ‘Brutal’ Antisemitic Assault

A member of a Jewish community in Kyiv was hospitalised with severe eye and skin burns after being attacked with tear gas outside a synagogue in what the community has called a “targeted, cruel, and prepared antisemitic act”.
The assault took place on Saturday afternoon at the Obolon synagogue in the Ukrainian capital. According to a statement from the Kyiv Jewish Community of Obolon, a group of young men approached the building and began performing Nazi salutes.
When a member of the congregation, wearing a kippah and tzitzit, went outside to confront them, he was sprayed with tear gas from two canisters before the assailants fled the scene.
The community said the incident was premeditated, noting that a similar group had gathered outside the synagogue the previous evening, shouting antisemitic slogans and giving Nazi salutes after seeing the rabbi. "Something has happened that should not happen in a civilized world," the statement read.
Kyiv police have confirmed they are investigating the incident, working to identify the individuals involved.

Russian Military Deploys Elite Subterranean Assault Brigades; Immediately Defeated by Functioning Sewage System

Russian military command announced a devastating setback to its much-anticipated offensive on Pokrovsk today, after its elite subterranean assault forces, known affectionately as "штypмoвики-пoдзeмeльщики" (Subterranean Stormtroopers), were decisively neutralized by what military analysts are calling "a moderate amount of wastewater."
The Kremlin's audacious new strategy involved highly trained units, reportedly nicknamed the "Russian Ninja Turtles," infiltrating Ukrainian positions by navigating the city's complex network of sewer pipes. The plan was reportedly foiled when Ukrainian forces, employing a shockingly advanced tactic, simply flushed.
"We had not factored municipal sanitation into our operational calculus," a visibly distraught (and fictional) General Dmitri Vodokanalov told state media. "Our brave subterranean commandos were prepared for fierce firefights, for navigating treacherous darkness, but not for... this. It is an unconventional warfare tactic of the highest cowardice."
The ambitious Russian operation appears to have been based on intelligence suggesting that Pokrovsk's sewer pipes were large enough for troop movement, a claim Ukrainian military officials have since dismissed. A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Operational Command "Dnipro" stated that the pipes in question have a diameter of only 60 centimeters and are, quote, "full of uncleaned sewage," making them unsuitable for even the most flexible of stormtroopers.
As Russian forces regroup to develop countermeasures, which may include issuing snorkels and floaties to its elite units, Ukrainian defenders have reportedly secured the city's manhole covers.

The plan was to extend it to the coast but the fortifications were still under construction north of Sedan.
But yes, where the Germans broke through at the Ardennes was a part of the Maginot line. It was the fault of the French general at the scene who elected to withdraw southward and cede the fortifications that allowed the Germans to break through and veer north, bypassing the defender's entirely.

"Bypass the Maginot" is one of those postwar myths meant to depict the French as incompetent while the reality is that they sabotaged their own war effort because military leadership sympathized more with the Nazi's than their own liberal government.

Isn't it amazing, how Russoids have been the same for a long, long time?

Here's a quote from Lord Palmerston:

The policy and practice of the Russian Government has always been to push forward its encroachments as fast and as far as the apathy or want of firmness of other Governments would allow it to go, but always to stop and retire when it was met with decided resistance... In furtherance of this policy, the Russian Government has always had two strings to its bow—moderate language and disinterested professions at Petersburg and at London; active aggression by its agents on the scene of operations.

Russia’s Trucking Sector Faces Mass Closures as Revenue Plummets

Russia’s freight trucking industry is facing a severe crisis, with analysts forecasting that up to 15% of companies could go out of business by the end of 2025 amid collapsing revenues and soaring operational costs. This follows a tumultuous first quarter in which one in five carriers has already ceased operations.
A joint study by the research agency M.A.Research and logistics firm PEK highlights a deepening paradox in the sector: while shipping volumes increased by 3.5% in the first half of 2025, industry revenue fell by 5%. This disconnect is driven by a sharp decline in freight rates, which have dropped by an average of 8% across Russia's 100 most popular routes since the end of last year.
The sector's projected full-year revenue growth is now a mere 1%, forecasting a total of 2.63 trillion rubles. This represents a near-total stall compared to the robust 13% growth recorded in 2024.
"The market has transitioned to stagnation," Lyudmila Simonova, managing partner at M.A.Research, told the Vedomosti business daily.
Industry experts point to a combination of factors squeezing carriers, particularly smaller operators. Key pressures include a slowdown in consumer demand, stagnation in the construction sector, and rising costs for fuel, spare parts, and insurance. Compounding the issue are high leasing payments, with the average monthly cost for a new truck reaching 370,000 rubles, a figure that is unsustainable for many smaller firms already grappling with an aging fleet where the average vehicle is 23 years old.

For Two Russian POWs, a Path to War Paved With Desperation and Deceit

In a stark interview, two captured Russian soldiers have described being coerced into military service from the penal system, citing threats of long prison sentences and brutal camp conditions as the primary motivators for signing contracts. The men, Artem Ublinskikh, 25, and Aleksandr Losev, 37, were serving in a "Storm" assault unit composed entirely of ex-convicts when they were captured by Ukrainian forces.
Their accounts depict a military that preys on the vulnerable. Mr. Ublinskikh, facing years in prison for parole violations, said he joined hoping to evade the sentence. Instead, he found a system rife with corruption, where commanders allegedly extorted money and withheld promised combat pay, treating convicts as expendable.
Mr. Losev, a Ukrainian from occupied Nova Kakhovka, provided a more harrowing narrative. He stated he was in a Russian prison, framed for the murder of his wife, who he alleges was raped and killed by Russian soldiers in 2024. Given a choice between extreme abuse in prison or fighting for the army, he signed the contract, planning to surrender. "What did [Putin] bring? Grief," Mr. Losev said, overcome with emotion. "They broke my goddamn life."

United Kingdom and Ukraine Launch Joint Production of Advanced Interceptor Drones

The United Kingdom and Ukraine are partnering to produce thousands of new interceptor drones per month to help defend against Russian drone attacks, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. The initiative, codenamed "Project Octopus," will leverage British manufacturing expertise to scale up a Ukrainian-designed drone that has proven highly effective on the battlefield.
Production will begin in the UK in the coming months, with an initial target of approximately 2,000 units per month. All drones produced under the partnership will be supplied directly to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to counter the persistent threat posed by Russian one-way attack drones, such as the Shahed type.
Speaking at the Defence Industry Forum in Kyiv, the Minister of State for Defence Procurement, Luke Pollard MP, highlighted the urgency and collaborative nature of the project.
"The UK is outstanding at R&D and advanced manufacturing, so we can add something that our Ukrainian friends don't have in this respect," said Minister Pollard. "Very soon, we'll be producing around 2,000 drones a month, deliberately shipping all of them to Ukraine so they can be used to intercept Russian drones."
This project is part of a wider industrial partnership to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities and ensure its long-term security.

Denmark Opts for New CV90s, Freeing Up Older Fleet for Ukraine

Denmark's Ministry of Defence has decided to procure a new fleet of CV9035 MkIIIC Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) from BAE Systems Hägglunds, canceling a previously planned mid-life upgrade for its 44 existing CV9035DK models. This strategic shift could pave the way for the transfer of the older, unmodernized vehicles to Ukraine.
The decision allows the Danish Army to standardize its IFV fleet, which will grow to 159 units of the new CV9035 MkIIIC version, enhancing interoperability and simplifying logistics and maintenance for its 1st Brigade.
By opting for new builds rather than upgrading, the 44 CV9035DKs, which have been in service with the Danish military and seen deployment in Afghanistan, are now surplus to requirements. While no formal commitment has been made, military analysts suggest these vehicles are prime candidates for donation to Ukraine.
This development aligns with Denmark's ongoing support for Kyiv. In December 2024, Denmark and Sweden jointly announced a significant military aid package, including a Danish contribution of $264 million to finance the production of new CV90s specifically for Ukraine. The potential transfer of the 44 older models would represent a substantial addition to this existing support, bolstering Ukraine's mechanized infantry capabilities.

Also, Poland can decide for itself as an independent state and whatever Kremlin thinks they can write down on a tiny piece of paper and shove it up their asses.
