One of the worst aspects of modern capitalism is viewing every building, vehicle, item, urban design etc as a resellable investment that leads to the most bland/basic forms and shades of white/grey/black winning out every time because they are the "least offensive" to everyone.
This means all resturaunts basically now look the same, all construction around the western world is just the same copy-paste grey/beige 5over1s, no longer is there nice urban design but just bland copy paste everything, colour is disappearing from both buildings, urban life and fashion. People buy beautiful old houses or ornate interiors, gut them and replace it all with grey/silver ikea stuff to flip because ornate design is harder to sell.
We have automatic routers and CNC machines, laser CNC and engraving machines so cheap any small trades business can easily afford. A workshop with a CNC machine can pump out an art novueau staircase railing or archway/door framing in a few hours.. do they do it? No, because the design might not be appealing to 20 out of 100 people.
Why was it early-mid Capitalism was able to balance beautiful design with production, but now, our urban spaces are in a running competition with Khrushchev for bland?

Capitalism is ultimately a bottom denominator ideology, it leads to the ultimate lowest acceptable to create mass

It's why it blends well with imported third worlders. Their entire existence is mass, the minimum required acceptable in everything that can be multiplied up massively.

Their food? Pot slop. Their homes? Tiny apartments in sky scrapers. Their IQ? Just smart enough to work, but never think of better ways.

And the globohomo style looks ugly to as many. The true reason is that there is so much taxation, regulation, bureaucrat nepotism and lobby protection that something as trivial as housing has become unobtanium.

Because human civilization peaked in 1913 and the 3rd Reich was it's last dying gasp. We're living in Jew World now and are only allowed to have Jewish Architecture (modernism)

Building beautiful buildings to uplift the human spirit, just because we could, used to be the norm and so obviously self evident that not doing it would not make any sense. This spirit was greatly reduced after WWI and completely vanished after WWII. The European Soul is severely buckbroken. The Fiat system is making built to last and built for beauty economically unfeasable even. Every new building just looks like a temporary solution, and it is. Our Forefathers would fist laugh at us then be absolutely terrified if they could see us

The reason is not capitalism but the lack of an aesthetic authority.

Mass production and financialization is the problem, not capitalism per se.
The Luddites were prophets. The most stable currency in history was the tally stick.
Ultimately the problem came down to Jews being allowed in to parasite on our land.

Mid early capitalism wasnt on less of a time cosntraint. The baby boom/post bretton woods era created a hunger for growth that could only be apeased by standardization of form. The cultural intelligensia formalised this utilitarian push by praising Le Corbusier, Loos etc to high heaven as it conveniently fit into their "old = bad" worldview, locking alternative styles out of the competition even when growth died down in the West (bar a brief attempt at...something... during the postmodernist era in the 90s - it didn't last and that's probably for the best). Now, we are stuck in another bind which is that the welfare state is failing under the weight of its contradictions and requires a full throttle on efficiency and productivity to sustain itself: computer generated design has made simple form not a matter of esthetics but a necessary default in the interest of time rather than any other consideration.

You'd need the world to hit the breaks on demographic growth and immigration, on yhe welfare state, on the money printer etc. And a complete societal collapse to allow the capitalist system of ye olden days to have TIME to provide beauty for the masses.

I'm pretty sure that the elite can enjoy the ornate stuff that you're longing for, in as much as they are still produced or renovated by dedicated artisans. It's more like that they don't live in the city center anymore, and there are security concerns, so you don't come across them and their properties as much as in Medieval Venice.

I don't know why you are blaming capitalism.

Really you should be blaming modern architects and their trash taste.

There’s nothing wrong with Capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don’t try to make me feel guilty
I’m so tired of hearing you whine
There’s nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask I’ll say it’s just fine
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
I’m so tired of hearing hearing you cry
About the revolution and bringing down the Rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch
Baby?

Under capitalism, you can absolutely buy an entryway and ornamentation like that.

You just have to pay for it (or make it yourself), and most people don't feel the need or desire.

Oh, and just to be clear, under communism you can't do that because you'll get shot by the state for wasting your time and state resources on useless ornamentation, and under socialism you can't do it because you can't afford to.
