Alfalfa production accounts for 55% of the water use that's depleting the Great Salt Lake and nobody here is doing shit about it because god forbid you tell these entitled Alfalfa niggers they're cut off from endless water for their garbage crop.

>Uh... yeah we dried up the Great Salt Lake and unleashed arsenic dust storms on the only populated corridor in the state but at least some Alfalfa farmers could buy a ford F-150 in 2025.
>>
You retards wanted massive development in Utah. You deserve a water crisis.
>>
>>519333608
We can handle development easily. It's alfalfa that's the problem. If we stopped growing alfalfa we could literally increase our development and STILL the great salt lake water levels would rise. Alfalfa farmers are just entitled faggots who have their buddies in SLC making sure nobody touches their endless water.
>>
what does the % of GDP have to do with it? steel and aluminum production is a tiny % of GDP now, but it is also extremely essential. same as you make nothing by cleaning your room, but you live in squalor if you do not
>>
>>519333782
Alfalfa is not essential at all. Especially when it's going to unleash an arsenic dust storm on everybody here.

>>
>>519333835

>>519333954
>but it is to things that eat it
Incoming rancher sob story about how you're so oppressed o algo

BTW we produce 4.1% of the USA's alfalfa supply. So why are we destroying our entire state for an industry that is less than 1% of GDP and any production loss can be offset by more production in other states?
>>
>>519334135
kike just say that you want beef prices to go up. It'll make things easier for everyone
>>
>>519334135
do you eat meat or not? you just keep repeating the same shit otherwise.
>>
>>519334241
Utah produces 4.1% of the Alfalfa in the USA. Yet it is going to destroy the entire state because they use 55% of the water that replenishes the GSL. You're not going to be able to grow alfalfa when arsenic dust storms fuck up your crops.

You are like all ranchers, totally incapable of thinking about the future. Just want your money now no matter what happens. If beef prices go up a little sure, let it happen. I'm sure alfalfa production in other states will continue to grow and it will be fine.

Now how many tax payers are paying for your grazing subsidies, USDA insurance subsidies, corn and onions and alfalfa subsidies that help you ranching welfare queens.

Niggers of America.
>>
>>519334279
I do eat meat. I eat lots of meat my diet is basically 95% carnivore. That doesn't mean I think ranching interests can destroy my state so their cattle feed is 0.25% cheaper.
>>
>>519334444

>>
>>519333278
How are they using water from the great salt lake, are they distilling it first?
>>
>>519334476
>OMG YOU EAT MEAT SO YOU MUST WANT TO DESTROY YOUR STATE SO 4.1% OF THE NATION'S ALFALFA PRODUCTION CAN CONTINUE!!!
No. That's not the case at all. Eating meat doesn't = let farmers and ranchers ruin the environment so their low quality slop is cheaper.
>>
>>519334539

This. It’s incredible how stupid people on pol are

“Animal agriculture in Utah represents the single largest sector of farm income in Utah. At a value of more than $1 billion, and with 25 of the state’s 29 counties reporting livestock as the dominant agricultural sector, the UDAF spends considerable energy maintaining a healthy and prosperous industry, and reporting our actions to Utah citizens.”

> 25 of the state’s 29 counties reporting livestock as the dominant agricultural sector,
Yeah because cattle grazing is the onle agriculture you can really do her ebesides alfalfa

> the UDAF spends considerable energy maintaining a healthy and prosperous industry, and reporting our actions to Utah citizens.”
Ah... so you got this from a UDAF shill page. Got it. Anything to keep the endless gravy train going.

Did you know Utah's cattle account for 0.8% of the US total? Maybe we don't need them that much... It's not worth destroying the economically productive and sustainable part of the state for rancher handouts.
>>
>>519335732
When the lake dries up we lose the sbowpack that bringd in billions a year too. We need lake effect snow for park city. Its criminal the water these asshats waste. 2bd driest state in the country, and they have UNLIMITED water rights. And by the laws of the 1800s if they dont use the allotments they have, they lose it. They HAVE to waste it.

>>
>just kill your agriculture bro
>wait why is there nothing to eat
>>
>>519334608
Doesn't the water become useless once it mixes with the great salt lake? Why is any fresh water wasted by allowing it to get there?
>>
My dad used to grow alfalfa, square bale it and sell it to "horse people" for a huge profit. He distinguished himself from competitors by delivering these premium hay bales in an enclosed trailer as opposed to an open hay wagon so they wouldn't get any wetter. Alfalfa bales are notoriously heavy with moisture and mold easily if not handled correctly.

If the politicians are for sale why can't the more valuable lake users outbid the alfalfa farmers and get the laws changed?
>>
>>519339385
First, see:
>>519335929
Our ski season and tourism depends on it

Second, the most important reason is because if the lake dries up it will unleash endless arsenic dust storms on the entire Wasatch Front corridor (where all the people live in Utah)

Third there's actually industries that produce more than agriculture in the state that involve the Lake
1) Brine shrip farming is huge
2) Certain mineral and resource extractions that depend on a certain water level in the lake (magnesium, lithium, etc.)
3) It's an important habitat for birds during migration which actually brings in a lot of money from bird watching tourists

But yeah the most important thing is it will fuck the entire state (and other states) when toxic dust is blowing everywhere and it will destroy our ski tourism because of the lake snow effect.
>>
>>519339708
Because alfalfa farmers are more geographically spread
>>
>>519333278
Yes. Meat eaters are destroying the planet, we know. Disgusting fucks.
>>
>>519339008
>>519339656
What percent of US agriculture is exported. We aren't going to starve if Utah's alfalfa industry or ranching industry goes away. They make up a minuscule amount of the total US production of alfalfa and beef.

And again, we subsidze the fuck out of our agriculture to send endless slop to other countries while fucking up the environment for everybody else. We could reduce our agrigovernment to a tenth of its current and still easily feed the whole country and canada too

Establish non-intensive, low-input, and low-workload systems that are synced with the natural flows of plant life.

Mandate that animals be pasture raised, kept and finished, holistically grazed, using hay is an auxiliary feed that amounts to no more than 10% of their intake.

Restore the water table through earthworks to make the water supply 100% cyclical. Observe the water cycle, not the carbon cycle.

Launch marine clean-up operations and end all fishing except for small-scale sardine and salmon fishing in tandem free range bottom cultured oyster bed with a gravel floor.

Direct floodwaters into lakes instead of letting it all go down rivers. Stopping water diversion for farming and harvesting rainwater underground will remove drought.

Install some irrigation for auxiliary purposes (to compensate for an initial lack of rainfall).

Inoculate soil with bacteria and fungi.

No till. Seed drill insertion for select crops.

Seasonal growth/production with direct-to-market (80% direct-to-consumer 20% to boutique butcher) local distribution.

Meat and dairy consumption being primary and universal via decentralized, small-scale, community based pastures and facilities.

Wage total war on meatpackers and supermarket chains, since they are behind the rise in food prices.

With farming done right, soil organic matter can be rebuilt from .5% to 1% annually.

This can be scaled down to the most local of levels. E.g., rather than having one 10,000-hectare farm run by a single farmer, you instead have ten 1000-hectare farms, or one-hundred 100-hectare farms, each run by multiple farmers (or families) and/or teams who rotate throughout the year.

Allow me to introduce you all to the former jewish farming colony of Clarion, Utah.
https://historyofmormonism.com/2011/07/13/jewish-colony-clarion-utah/
They jews were given good farm land, almost unlimited money from their wealthy donors and constant aid from the Mormon farmers.
The colony failed with the jews claiming the farmland was bad and there was not enough water.
However, Mormon farmers with less water on land the quite literally abutted the jewish colony land were thriving.
After 5 years and incredibly generous help, the jewish colony failed.
These are the people they tell us are intelligent and hard working, but every time they have to produce on their own, they fail.
They only succeed with parasitic leaching like this new attack on the multigenerational White Mormon farmers.

No. My goal is less water intensive agriculture in Utah when it's unnecessary. These aren't family farms. These are commercial Alfalfa farms sending most of it to China. What do you think will happen to all your mormon homesteads when arsenic dust BTFOs you because you took all the water from the rivers for your stupid grass?

>LET PEOPLE GROW ENDLESS ALFALFA IN THE DESERT TO SELL TO CHINA AND SAUDI ARABIA SO THE GREAT SALT LAKE DRIES UP OR ELSE YOU'RE A JEW!!!
Quite the opposite. White Americans like to conserve nature. Alfalfa farmers are the jews here.
>>
Also dumb LDSniggers in Boulder and Escalante love to let their cattle stomp all over BLM land without grazing allotments and our National Parks. But growing alfalfa in the desert is the pinnacle of retardation.
>>
>>519345615
You can own farmland here. You just shouldn't be entitled to endless water. If you can't produce commercial alfalfa to export in Utah then kindly leave to another state. If you want to have a homestead or something then fine, that's not an issue.

But alfalfa niggers won't be satisfied until Utah is a dried out wasteland that's uninhabitable.

Do you deny the Great Salt Lake is drying out and that's going to be a disaster? Enjoy your organic onions when they're covered in toxic dust because you thought some alfalfa nigger needed to use all the water to send his slop grass to China.

This has nothing to do with global warming. When lakes dry up it releases a bunch of toxic dust.

>>519346046
Yeah so we can change our water use laws to BTFO Alfalfa niggers that way nice homesteaders like you can keep farming and the commercial alfalfa water hogs can go move to kansas or something

>>519346073
So you're okay with drying up the Great Salt Lake and ruining future generations' chances to live in Utah or have a small farm so that commercial Alfalfa farmers today can make a quick buck? You're a brain broken golem who thinks commercial agriculture is the same thing as grown some vegetables in your backyard.

Yes, there are limitations to water usage in the Great Basin.
>>
>>519346181
I didn't say we need to get rid of the cattle. I just find ranchers to be welfare queen niggers (often) but they aren't the problem in Utah. The problem here is commercial alfalfa farming.

Ranchers being dramatic niggers with a persecution complex is a separate issue.

Although I will say those "range cattle" then get finished off with GMO corn and Grains and are pumped full of roids and then sold abroad as beef slop. So it's not like we have a beef shortage here. Most of our agriculture is exported. This can be fine but it also means the world won't end if a state like utah stops producing Alfalfa.

Farmers are welfare queens. We overproduce so much GMO slop to sell to china. Sorry, I'm not going to sacrifice my state so big Alfalfa can make some extra money now. The GSL has been shrinking for a long time. It got a bit of a reprieve during the wet winter of 2023, but that's running out. It needs more water flowing into the basin, or it risks an Aral-style collapse.

OP hates bees
https://beeswiki.com/alfalfa-honey/
>>
>>519346726
The funny thing most of these ranchers who have their cattle graze on BLM land then sell them to feedlots out of states after 10 months or so and they get pumped full of roids and corn. So much of USA beef is so shit that other countries refuse to import it and that causes our ranchers to cry like faggots.

>Commercial Alfalfa is allowed to Flower
If you REALLY want to save the bees turn all the Alfalfa farms into wilderness and let wildflowers grow there

Just sad to see.

Alfalfa doesn't use immigrants you retarded nigger. It's fully mechanized since the beginning to the end. A single farmer could take care of over 9000 acres with just his two hands.

nothing is too expensive and harmful if it helps the animal ag mafia
>>
>>519347437
This is wrong. Alfalfa uses illegal labor here. Not as much as some other agricultural practices, but it still does. So do ranchers btw but then they cry about illegals and love deportations as long as it's not THEIR seasonal workers

But you are correct Alfalfa and ranching is not the most heavily dependent on illegal labor type of agriculture
>>

>Alfalfa is not essential at all.
It is pretty essential as animal fodder, you wouldn't get burgers if you didn't feed cattle with hay fodder. Or milk.

If you think Utah has it bad, commiefornia produces it for export to chinks and japs.
>>
>>519347841
Utah Alfalfa doesn't go to Utah cattle. The vast majority of Utah cattle graze on BLM land then get sold to feedlots in texas and kansas to be filled with roids, cornslop, and antibiotics.

Most of our Alfalfa here is exported to China too. There is 0 reason we need the level of Alfalfa farming here especially when it threatens to destroy our one populated corridor that economically powers the state.

And Alfalfa niggers will blame "Muh lawns" when that's nothing compared to their China grass.
>>
>>519347659
Really? In what process do you use hands there? Seeding, harvesting, packing... it's all done by machines.
>>
>>519333278
isn't that just grass?
wouldn't there be grass anyway? AFAIK they dont use irrigation to grow alfalfa
dont they lay pipe to bring too much water away?
>>
>>519348087
Smaller operations here cut and bundle by hand and use illegals. But my issue with Alfalfa is not illegals. It's that they will destroy the GSL and unleash toxic dust on everybody and they literally don't give a fuck.

>>519348110
We are in a desert. Alfalfa is a super water intensive crop for us. It's 2-3x more water intensive than wheat.

It makes no sense and nothing is being done about it.
>>
>>519348227
>Smaller operations here cut and bundle by hand and use illegals
LMAO, so some kike got a gang of beaners out there with scythes hand tiring bales?
>>

I highly doubt they're Jewish just given the demographics of our state. But maybe Jewish in the spiritual sense
>>
>>519336084
>Alfalfa doesn’t do well with salt water.
Salt water is pretty essential in preserving hay. To preserve it as animal fodder, you are going to need solution made of about 70% formic acid, 10% ammonium salts and 20% water.
>>519347935
A lot south western US depends on Colorado river water. Do you know what is the funny part. Your entire water planning is based on like wettest 30 year period in last millennia. It isn't just Utah, its everyone downstream in drainage area. Best part is that water rights system you developed actively punishes any farmer that tries to save water, if you don't use it, your lose it kind of system.
>>
>>519348227
We have a similar climate as California. No one here plants alfalfa. That crop is for more humid climates, where it rains like x4. If you pay to use irrigation i think they should be focusing in other plants, maybe corn or sunflowers.
>>
>>519348369
So where is this commercial Alf-Alfa operation using illegals hand cutting and hand baling?
>>
>>519348373
Yeah we need to totally reform our water rights system here. Also the seniority principle is retarded. People think "My grandpappy was here so I can waste as much water as I want :D"

>>519348478
It's so retarded we grow it here and use most of our water on it and 70% of it is exported to China so basically we just export 55% of our water so a few Alfalfa operations can get rich.

Utah just wasn't built to be an agricultural powerhouse. We have other states for that. I'm not saying ban all farming. But water usage has to be limited for Alfalfa or the entire state is fucked. When the GSL dries out it's going to be the worst ecological disaster in American history. The entire Wasatch Front will be covered in toxic dust
>>

Probably on your grandpappy's retarded Alfalfa farm

It's not as much China as it is Saudi Arabia. They import alphalpha, for their heavily subsidized agricultural attempts, and it really is as if they are importing water. Alphalpha requires a lot of water to grow it, and effectively its as if you are exporting water because of that.

What we need is a pipeline from Washington state to the east side of the Rockies, and that will replenish the Colorado River. Problem solved.

>use most of our water on it and 70% of it is exported to China
Ah shit. I know that story. Here it's the same but with pig farms. People doesn't how much water those farms use, they are like small cities. And nearly all is exported to China.
When my father was young you could find water on the surface. Then you had to drill for 50m until you found the water. Then was 100m, then 200m... now you are not even allowed to drill new wells, and the ones already made have to go down 300m to get water, which increase the cost a lot because you have to use a lot of energy to bring the water up.

The water rights system you have is basically insanity.
>basically we just export 55% of our water
A lot of agricultural exports are essentially exporting water, so its borderline criminal to use limited water resources to produce low value bulk animal fodder.
>Utah just wasn't built to be an agricultural powerhouse
I think most of the state is either desert or semi desert, so "No shit, Sherlock". Sure there are mountain valleys and such... but anyway.
>>519348961
>Saudi Arabia. They import alphalpha, for their heavily subsidized agricultural attempts
That isn't even best part when it comes to Saudi bullshit with farming. They have tried grow wheat with essentially fossil ground water, a resource that will replenish next time there is a fucking ICE AGE.
>>
Do you suggest they should cut their GDP (PBUH) by 1% to save water? That's hecking apostasy - better prepare to be stoned or/and burned at stake desu

Pretty funny you think working ranchers are bourgeoisie. Maybe their kids are millionaires but the second they inherit the ranch they're going to sell it, then the only reason they'll grow alfalfa is for an ag subside.

The political left works tirelessly for open borders but cries "limited resources" when it suits them.
