I spent a while thinking on what the actual attempt at improvement or benefit of this is. Even the Japanese wouldnt go out of their way to make something more retarded with zero reaaon.The best idea I can come up with is due to limited floor space in Jap stores they made the vending machine more compact by taking out the money handling portion and instead just make the cashier handle it. Still it's not a very good idea but I think that's the reason.
