When you walk into the Hospital you instantly engage about 10 people between registration, computer network support, records, archives and administration before you even talk to the Triage nurse. This is essential to ensure you get the proper care that is intended for you and not somebody else at the hospital. Those people have salaries, they're not your slaves, they have to get paid to be there. Depending on your compaint, by the time you get discharged, you and your information have probably already gone through a dozen or so other employees besides the Doctor, incluing pharmacists, pharmacy techs, nurses, nurse assistants, transporters, radiology techs, janitors, software techs, network administrators. These people all have employees who act as trainers, fail-safes and backups, and oversight over them to ensure you get what you're supposed to get treatment-wise. Those people typically get paid by the hour. That tylenol you're getting is individually packaged and counted and inspected by more than one person before it gets to the emergency department, to make sure it doesn't get mixed in with other medicines. There's whole processes that are involved to ensure you end up with the correct medication and to ensure the medications are sorted properly and store separately from one-another, because one mistake can kill you. They don't just open a bottle and give you a pill.This shit costs money. It costs money here and it costs money in countries with "Free healthcare". The difference between them and us is they pay 50% of their income and another 20% sales tax on everything to subsidize their medical care and we have private insurance.
