Blue collar tech workers have to work 24/7 to keep their shittily designed infrastructure afloat. They have to go in and constantly fix hard-coded poorly-tested systems designed with no forethought using heinous assumptions about requirements and the technology they use and have to scramble to keep them running. The blue collar tech worker is more like a minimum wage laborer. White collar tech workers are different in their goals and approach to design. If these systems were designed correctly in the first place you would be able to take a holiday and nothing would collapse. That's the whole point of using computers, so that you don't have to be ever present. Hopefully one day we learn that again.

>>519396925I thought it was a basic rule of no major updates from Friday to Monday. Or at least that is the policy I always follow. Never push updates on those days or make any changes if possible. Research days and useless meeting days instead with the rare fix issues that popped up days. Always reboot servers 1 week before a major holiday is another one I do to get any kinks sorted. 2 weeks before for Christmas.
