Did you ever notice the irony that while it's supposed to be the presence of the police that keeps gangs down, it's actually the presence of gangs that keep the police and government down? And the mafia of old have effectively died out completely - the gangs are losing the war. No I'm not romanticizing gangs and violence, especially not the vicious thugs. What I am saying is that gangs used to be another sort of defence against tyranny by the government - if they weren't good for the people around them, they wouldn't have lasted like they did, many white people admired and respected the mafia. In opposites world it really is true that the gangs are a good deterrent from the government fucking their people over too much. It's almost like different races in a videogame fighting. And the government knew that if they fucked people over too much, more people would join the mafia, it would become more and more powerful, that was a deterrent. A problem now is that the government has no fear. And when authorities have no fear, they run amok, they start torturing their own people just for funsies, and lots of bad things happen.
