He chose the wrong trade. Office workers will be replaced by AI first. Learn to dig.
>>
>>519425414
He trained to be an electrician
>>
>>519425189
The trades are insanely nepotistic. That's something they'll never tell you.
>>
Heavy equipment repair is one of the most lucrative trades to get into
>>
>>519425189
lol trades are just boomer nepo shit. Smart play is to get a bachelor's in the field and work as a in house consultant to help the builder push the boomer union shit in on the contract. or a inspector. All boomer tradesman fear the licensed trade college degree holder.
>>
>>519428120
This. American trades have been labor aristocracy mafias since Taft-Hartley.
>>
>>519427758
>Heavy equipment repair
because you need a million dollar shop.
>>
Fool me twice. They used my life. It's money they like. It's suicide I fight.
>>
>>519427328
Just like judicary. Wanna become a judge, prosecutor or a lawyer? You MUST have connections, usually famillial, in order to get into required training period after completing 5 years+dissertation on LAW. At least that's how it is here - without connections, 5 years in law are wasted years, no matter how well you did.
>>
>>519427328
This.
Had this problem too.
It's a bit different in Australia though. You can't pay $20k to do a 9 month course to get a qualification in a trade. The only way is to become an apprentice. We do have an optional pre-apprenticeship course (for electrical anyway), but it only costs around $2k and can be done online in like 6 months. Don't know if that is what OP's post is talking about or not, but either way $20k+ is insane.
The problem in Australia, apart from the nepotism, is that employers are forced to pay apprentices who are over 21 a higher way. Something like $25 an hour instead of the $15 they can pay younger apprentices. This means that if you are over 21 with no friends or family in the trades you have a hard road breaking in.
The option I went for in the end was a group training organisation (GTO). There are a bunch of them, one of which is run by the electrical union. They take you on and act as your employer, and then farm you out, mostly to larger developers and electrical contractors.
They are pretty shit but it is at least a foot in the door for people who don't have a family network to get them an apprenticeship. Once you have done a year or two then you are pretty attractive to other electrical businesses and it's not too hard to find someone to take you on for your final 2-3 years as an apprentice.
The other option is solar installation. Shittest sparky gig with massive turnover. Just doing the same shit on roofs day in day out for one of the millions of small solar installations business trying to capatalise on all the government subsidies. Wouldn't suprise me if US regulation doesn't even require a qualified electrician to install the actual panels on the roof like we do here.

Just become railroad signalman. It’s a bit of a wait but easy job for him. Plus he’s young and will get a huge retirement from railroad retirement plus military

>get forklift certificate
>every job requires 2 years experience

wtf

if you're under 30 they're actively trying to fuck you in your money
>>
Trades in UK are screaming for young lads. Everyone I work for wants apprentices but no one wants to work. My day rate sparking is now £380 because the complete lack of local competent tradesmen.
>>
>>519428574
All of Europe is this way. Without connections you can never rise into the managerial class or earn above median wages.
>>
>>519425189
no shit. trade is a scam. you know why all these electricians, hvac, plumber or anything of these basic ass jobs cost a fuck ton? it's because they're impossible to get certified in. why the fuck would a basic ass electrician charge $80-$100 an hour to punch a hole in your wall a run a couple wires in your house? it's because to be a certified electrician, you'd need to have apprenticeship with a certified electrician for 5 years before you're certified. oh and during this time you're going to get paid like shit and probably fired before your 5 years is up. why the fuck would a certified electricians want to flood the market with other electricians to compete for their jobs? they are happily ripping people off $100 per hour at a time. anything trade related you can learn on YouTube for free. the legal bullshit is what keep those trades "in demand." the trade meme is to fuck with your dumbass just like how they fuck their customers.

>enlisted
Smart choice for him to serve in military, Thank you for his service.
However, several mistakes
1. He better picked non-combat, trade-oriented MOS. Combat Engineer, Radar Technician, Vehicle Maintenance, etc. Those are the place he could hone his trade during service time. Might go a bit longer like 5 years minimum.
2. Should connect with seniors, veterans around for any post-service transition.
3. If he did his service properly, his learned trades there should be easily converted to civilian world. Basically he's already qualified by on the job experience
4. Thus, he should go to college instead, use his rightly deserved GI Bill. If he's smart, his technical skills during service will help him in relevant major. Do usual networking, connections, internships like any college students. Better, once graduate, he has more choice to go commission or warrant officer.
Finally, military service duration = working experience! Employers can't discriminate veterans!
I advise HS graduates to enlist in military to avoid college/trades trap. Navy, Air Force, Space Force is way to go technical. Or if you are scared of "muh zogbots die for israel", go Coast Guard
The egg/chick problem is lack of experience.
>>
>>519425189
Dumb fuck should have just did a trade in the military instead of le combat arms.
>>
>>519428791
Just drive your forklift around the house for 2 years.
Pilots are required to do the same to get 3000 flight hours they fly small planes before getting a job flying a big plane.
>>
The shilling for trades is really, really silly, considering that a shift towards them will just flood the market there with cheap labor.
>>
>>519425483
He did it in some wacky way. You are supposed to apply for an apprenticeship directly at whatever ibew local(s) are around you. If you are accepted, you are placed with a company while you do your apprenticeship and then you go to school a couple times per week at night or on a day off or something. This guy didn't do that because he did no research. He just blindly signed up for some 20k scam trade school and then hoped to get a job afterwards.
>>
>>519429297
>Smart choice

Good goy

Are cheap repairs a bad thing? People are always complaining about the price of plumbers, electricians, and mechanics.

>>
>>519425189
the guy could just post listings online and build a clientele, it's one the easiest jobs to build clientele if you don't mind working construction. unless all he wants to do is place some wall sockets for which who the fuck even calls an electrician other than single women with not a single man in their lives.
>>
>>519427328
Fun fact: all jobs are this way. What you know will never get you as far as who you know.
>>
>>519429486
Not at all, but that it will make the job for the workers worse as they'll get shit pay.
>>
>>519429428
The smaller schools that train nurses and such scam people into this. It doesn't really get you into the ibew

It's not silly considering AI is 100% going to displace 80% of white collar jobs in the next 5 to 10 years. Trades are going to be the only sane way to make money for the average person unless you're a doctor, lawyer, AI researcher or doing something highly specialized that AI can't do.
>>
>>519429521
Ain't nothing but self promoting jeets and fake jobs on LinkedIn anyway. They don't even want to be a job site anymore, but like, another Facebook.
>>
>>519429428
You'd better be connected, or be able to chug mad shaft to get one of those apprentice slots.
>>
>>519425189
he openly admits the electrical school didnt teach him, but he wants a job as an electician... why would i hire him?

also these jobs are more of a hussle, you arent going to get hired and do the one job for 20 years, you have to always be looking out for the next job, some last a month some last half a day
>>
>>519429821
Demand for trades is driven by white collar professionals who can pay tradesmen. If those white collar jobs go away nobody will be hiring tradesmen but will do all home repair work themselves.
>>
>>519429199
21k for 9 months?
seems like bullshit.
especially for a trade school.
>>
The days of "OMG JUST LE PAY $200K TO GET THIS AMAZING TRADE/DEGREE AND GET A LAZY GIRL WFH JOB AFTERWARDS" meme are over unfortunately. You can't trust any fucktards promising you something at an undetermined date 5 years down the line AFTER you spend massive amounts of time, effort and money on useless education. The only feasible way is to get in with a company (hopefully big corpo) from the bottom and explore avenues for advancement once you're on the inside. Anything else is just a crap shoot.
>>
>>519425483
it's almost impossible be jobless as electrician as almost every country there is requires official license to do that job

his problem is that he doesn't know how one get a tradie job, linked in won't be the place
>>
>>519429909
>Demand for trades is driven by white collar professionals who can pay tradesmen.
What? You do realize corporations and construction sites pay for tradesmen right? Some tradesmen probably exclusively only deal with businesses. I personally wouldn't want to step foot in someone's home.

>If those white collar jobs go away nobody will be hiring tradesmen but will do all home repair work themselves.
Your average joe isn't going to do those home repairs themselves by watching Youtube. A fuckup could mean death or an even more expensive bill.
>>
>>519429199
This is why people hire illegal immigrants.
>>
>>519429821
Anon, even something like a 20% (figure pulled from my ass) increase in tradesmen would have a drastic impact on the pay for their labor.

I'm not saying that the jobs are bad, just that they're being hyped too much, same as coding before that ship sailed.

An ideal job is like a personal monopoly, the more people that do your job the worse it gets, roughly speaking.
>>
>>519427758
>all boomer tradesman fear the licensed trade college degree holder.
Lol.
I make $3 an hour more than her.
Not related to anyone in the company.
Went through a "tree" Union apprenticeship and was dispatched by the Union.
Been with the same company 5 years.
t. Operating Engineer.
>>
>>519430222
I mean I don't know what else you want. There's no avoiding the surge in people going into trades. I'm not saying you're going to make big money but it's better than being unemployed or in an overly saturated field competing against AI. Most probably still aren't going to want to do trades because they feel it is beneath them and want to work in a comfortable office, not get their hands dirty.
>>
>>519429759
Basically this.
>>
>>519430347
Not really much else to it, it's just going to spiral into shit just like everything else. I don't have any real advice to give here, just griping and whining.

First it'll be
>Go into trades
Then it'll become
>Go into these specific trades
And the purity spiral will continue with ever-increasing barriers of entry 'till the field's all shit just like everything else.
>>
>>519430059
You're wrong. I live in a poor country and almost everyone does all home repairs and improvements themselves. From roofing to furnace installation to electrical.
If the money isn't there it isn't there. It's cute you think you can live in a 3rd world slum nation qith 50% unemployment and make $150 an hour doing trades.
>>
I had the exact same experience as this guy. Everything I learned in trade school i couldve learned on youtube for free and the only job i could get was pizza delivery ffs. Job placement assistance was literally the reason i took the fucking class but they do absolutely nothing for you after you graduate. I wouldve settled for a simple goddamn list of companies hiring electricians.
>>
>>519429911
Are you telling me that a young zogbot fell for a scam?
>>
>>519429428
Based bro! I was thinking about going back to community college for becoming an electrician since IT has became jeeted. I am going to check the local IBEW

Another economic draft success! Now, march, goy, MARCH!

>>519429428
In other words, hard work and training mean nothing. You have to have secret knowledge and platinum connections to get a basic job. These united states are just brimming with opportunity for any youngster with a spot of gumption!
>>
>>519431679
Well if its any help thats the whole world
>>
>>519431679
>These united states are just brimming with opportunity for any youngster with a spot of gumption!
It almost feels like companies are saying that as an excuse for government subsides or something. There must be some loophole they are exploiting. That or they are hiring jeets
>>
>>519425189
The actual work of trades often seems kinda fun, but every skilled laborer I've met is either a felon or the most boring motherfucker on the planet. Seriously, I've met jeets funnier than these dudes.
And also yeah, I've heard labor union nepotism makes any other field's nepotism look like a joke.

Trades are yesterday's news
Public utilities are where it's at
>>
>>519428986
Why am I not surprised? Also, like people said before, lucrative trades like electrician etc. are heavily gatekept. I have the initial exam and papers allowing me to work as "young electrician", that is, basically a student of an actual electrician. BUT it's almost impossible to continue in this trade if you have no connections. EVEN if you finished a trade school, you still need to do the same thing I have to do, which is work with an actual electrician for some period of time and having him confirm you're fit to work on your own. If the same model was in place for driving cars, then perhaps 1% of the population would drive them.
Regarding trades, you need either someone in family willing to train you or be insanely lucky and meet a cool, older dude willing to train you as if you were his son.
Otherwise you're bound to working in retail or finishing some real studies and even then, most people don't work in their "specialization" but do a completely different thing where the only thing required is higher education (obtainable only from Universities, Academies or Higher Schools (where you pay for the paper in reality).
>>
>>519428986
i went to electrical school to get a better job than working in fart factory (I have bachelor degree), and got 2 jobs in 'electrical' fields
1st: basically fitter/assembler of cables in buses (fkd job) after 2 months they didnt renew contract
2nd: a man with a shovel, earthworks, or pulling medium voltage cables,.... no knowledge needed - grunt work. They hired me so young apprentice can finish his education and pass exam and then - sorry, we dont renew your contract
thats my 'adventure' with trades
>>
>>519425189
getting a trade job is only hard if youre a useless retarded sperg. if your thumbs work you can get a job anywhere. you will never find a job with a computer. you have to show up and prove you want to work by harassing the foreman. this sounds like boomer slop but its true. show up and dont be a faggot or a retard and youre good.
