There's no new successful Japanese A.I/internet/software/biotech company in the last 20 years. There's so many fields where they have outright just given up even trying to compete, like in their aviation sector. China and SK are eating up their market share at an insane rate. They went from leading in every field of technology in the 80s, to being years behind the cutting edge today. There's no Japanese Samsung or Deepseek. They are completely unable to pick up any new technology. There's zero new big Japanese tech companies in the last 20 years. Even Europe is trying their best in A.I, software and drones and coming up with some minor success, even if they can't do as well as America and China. Japan can't even bother to try.Otherwise without their tech, Japan has very little to offer. They have very little natural resources or farmland, and thus has to import an insane amount of their fuel and food. Their demographics are bad, their geography is shit- being extremely mountainous and prone to earthquakes, and their military is a paper tiger. They have declined as much as UK has. They are both has beens and there's no hope of a resurgence in sight.Even their cultural exports are losing ground and are nowhere as popular as they were back in the 80s/90s. With SK and China catching up fast in that area.
