I'm a (white) superintendent for a general contractor in Central California. The issue is that we cannot find any young white guys who will show up consistently and work hard. We can find guys who will show up, but they will take forever to do simple jobs and any time supervision is not around they'll just sit down on their phone and do nothing. I know some guys I could hire who will work hard but they don't want to commit to full-time work because they always have other stuff that takes priority like surfing, the snow-season, some retarded side-hustle they have...So what am I meant to do in this situation, when I could easily just go to the local spot and find as many Mexicans as I need to dig trenches all day and they will work hard and not complain and get the job done on time? It's not about pay either because these white guys are starting off at $30 an hour which is better than anywhere else is paying for unskilled work, and there is opportunity to get skilled and quickly get pay rises as long as they show up and work hard.Just not sure what the right thing to do here is. I want to hire white people for obvious reasons but I also need to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time.
