That is the coolest tank I've ever seen. Russians are based.
>>
>>519797030
That's both hilarious and awesome. I haven't actually laughed out loud at anything in this website in a long time. At the same time, that's a beautiful example of adaptation. Between the barbed wire, the spikes, the mine rollers on the front, they've really covered all the weak points of a tank in modern drone warfare. Moreover, it's a great form of visual camouflage-- at first glace it looks like a pile of rubble, not a tank. War is not a fashion show-- the men operating that tank don't care how they look, they care about winning.
All in all, it's BEAUTIFUL.

In a recent engagement one of these battle barns spearheaded an assault across open terrain and got hit by 25 drones before being disabled. So they're not invincible, but pretty close.
>>
>>519798493
That would be effective desu. Many many tanks have been lose to small drones slamming shaped charges into the hull. Any distance you add to the point of explosion dramatically reduces the effectiveness and the coverage is a lot better than cope cages
>>
>>519797030
>>519798493
I'm surprised that those tanks remain mobile with so much additional weight slapped on. You would think that they would add more defenses at the factory if the engine/suspension can handle the weight.

Clearly mad max armour has some effectiveness.... Yet every day I see a newly announced tank or ground drone and literally zero have any type of anti drone armour. These could be on the chassis only, hard to say from a couple of pictures alone. Removing the turret would make it a lot lighter, it's not like it can do much more than transport troops with all that porcupine plating. Plus I think you could slap a shit ton of metal on it even with the turret (I served as a gunner in T72 when we still had them, they are quite powerful), and I don't think the plates are that thick anyways, the main goal of those is to keep the drones away and create a space to disrupt the cone of the HEAT rounds before they hit the main armor.

Why not just have all the tools separated and ready to be used instead of attempting to solve all problems that can bother a single tool.

Its kind of like how we didn't learn until we got our shit pushed in when the Japanese took Hong Kong...then again when the North Koreans almost pushed us out of mainland East Asia.

Even the beginning of GWOT was a clown show and took the west a few years to get our shit together. We never really learn anything until we take a lot of casulties.
>>
>>519803669
Increasing drone costs and soaking up drones that would kill soldiers is field effective though...?

>>519803972
Well I know the Leonidas has shown to be very effective in tests but it's more of a park next to a base create a microwave bubble kind of thing... It seems like jamming has been super ineffective on the shifting front

>>519805209
I noticed the Russian have moved heavily into the fiber optic drones recently... Is that because of effective jamming? I haven't seen Ukraine use them at all but they have developed a couple counters so they must be a problem
>>
>>519806734
Ya but Ukraine attacking those planes with drones sent the US into complete fucking scramble and they immediately started pouring money into base defence against drone attacks. Good point. I think the US is using Ukraine as a testing ground (as well as a lot of other global powers) Just like the Civil war in Spain before WW2.
I'm actually surprised more terrorist groups aren't taking advantage of drone tech. Imagine a suicide bomber that doesn't actually involve a human carrying out the attack.

>>
>>519807330
This is just coping. Even Ukrainians themselves admit that they are lagging behind and need to invest more in this technology.
Fiber optic drones are not a replacement for regular drones, they are designed for completely different applications and often complement each other.
>tanks
Conventional drones also hit Ukrainian tanks all the time. Fiber optic drones are designed to target important targets, not tanks on the frontline.

Attack well-fortified positions with good jamming and air defense. Fiber optic drones are essentially invincible at the moment, you can't jam them and they're stealthy enough that they're spotted too late.

They don't work because they aren't spiky like the Russian ones.

Western cage are just shurtzen on the top :why they don't work? Because it's a thin layer of nothing so once the projectile punched through to stop the projectile- it's the same reason why shurtzen in WW2 while a good idea barely worked.

Superior spike-hedgehog: spikes stick outward in all directions so when a projectile either solid OR shaped liquid charge etc hit spike the projectile is now thrown off course veering any and all directions besides straight, MOST IMPORTANTLY even if the projectile were to head straight still to the target the projectile now needs to run the course of this entire metal spike so the projectile is losing velocity and force the whole time it's interacting with a spike/multiple spike ultimately resulting in a non penetration and or a richotcet. And even if the charge/projectile lands on target after that it will most likely not have the force left over to cause a pen or any sort of real damage to the vehicle.

Ukraine clearly doesn't need them to rape the ever loving shit out of Russian fucking armour correct... The armour they just keep driving wave after wave into the drones so why the fuck would they need to reach 20km with fiber optic drones... What position do they need to hit? Why can't it be hit with artillery or other munitions? The fiber optic drones have already been countered with rotating barbedwire fences... So why has Russia put such an emphasis on moving to more expensive drones for the same solution or what solution are they providing that justifies the larger expenditure. Since you haven't made a real argument so far to my legitimate question I'm just going to assume western jamming tech is that much better and Russia is just filled with illiterate rapists who I made the mistake of assuming could make logical decisions. The main difference would be cost and standardisation. Welding on a few mounting points for steel wire Christmas trees would suddenly get very expensive.

>>519811414
Safe from any of the cheap kill shit the ukies love and the tank itself is going to do whatever it would normally do against a real warhead.
>>
>>519811822
I think you would seriously design it like one of these. Sequential mount points branching out.

>>519811333

Nature optimized the solution for keeping dangerous things well away from your vulnerable body 200 million years ago.
>>
>>519811942
You could bundle them up like a fascine and bolt them on at pretty short notice. Hell, use a quick release hydraulic coupler. I reckon we're going to start seeing something like this carried if not used much.

Shaped charges aren't affect the same as HE retard, their hgihest effective range tends to be roughly 2meters not impact distance.

It literally works, in a few years the US will have an equivalent that looks cleaner, but costed us billions more. Ukraniggers are doing the exact same thing. It stops the small drone explosions. They're smart for figuring it out actually.

Well Chile I think you already know but uhh ... Your only offense would be a spear canon made out of spears, and chucking spears at tanks doesn't work unless it's a gauss cannon.

Most importantly you cannot fit troops inside of a vehicle made of spikes they would get caught in the spikes while disembarking and they wouldn't be able to sit. The troop compartment would be like a medieval iron maiden torture device.

What I don't get is why isn't everybody going full in on autonomous AI drones?
Can't jam them if they don't need an operator.

It's the ONE (literally) killer app for AI but so far crickets.
>>
>>519813328
It's actually gone full circle since this is what the Soviets were doing to counteract German panzerfaust rounds from penetrating their tanks, they just strapped mattresses on the outside.

Kek oh no they exist and are in active deployment... The problem is autonomous control over the command and fire of a weapon used to kill a human is still a very grey area we pretend we don't operate in. The spike firefly was used completely autonomously as an "aerial denial tool" by Israel. It was very effective and finding and killing "Hamas".
https://www.rafael.co.il/system/l-spike-1x/
>>
>>519815935
I honestly don't trust israel's definition of effective
they literally bombed kids to kill 1 guy from hamas
>>
>>519805633
The meat inside is easier to replace than a damaged engine in the field apparently.
>>
>>519816101
well yeah, but remember the israelis enjoy killing palestinian children anyway, so from their point of view it's win win
>>
>>519816101
Well since it's being used as an aerial denial tool in a no go zone... Anyone in the zone is Hamas. It doesn't have facial recognition to check their Twitter to make sure they don't follow Greta. So very effective means very effective. Take that as you will

I was watching a kid who built the worlds most powerful hand held “laser” last night. He’d open that ‘tank’ in milliseconds, lasers would make really peculiar weapons but nothing metal would stand up to even a handheld laser any more than a plastic cup would.
Strange things like smoke does ruin the effect though and could be used as a shield against a las gun.
>>
>>519801266
Well, you don't deploy tanks to fight drones. It's really quite that simple. If you want to counter something on the battlefield you ideally deploy something suited for that specific role. Which means technicals geared towards that. Tanks are meant to be heavily supported anyways. They're basically just mobile heavy cover for urban environments with limited other uses. By themselves they are extremely vulnerable to any brave idiot with a hand grenade.
>>
>>519821204
You are literally fucking retarded. Nobody in the world thinks you deploy tanks to fight small drones. They are deploying small drones to counter the tanks. Thus we are back to my original question
