I have my own place and I'm not hideous or anything. But I haven't had friends since COVID. I don't think I've even gotten a hug since COVID. I've never enjoyed going out to bars, so I just sit in my condo, weekend after weekend, rewatching some YouTube video for the 100th time. I'm not even really depressed or lonely anymore; I don't actually like most people that much. I'm just... bored. Is this really how it ends? Am I really supposed to do this for another 40 or 50 years?

Most of my childhood friends moved away after college, and the few I had left after that dispersed when we all entered or exited relationships, people got married, things like that. COVID hit and it pretty much was the final nail in the coffin for my pre-COVID social groups. I think I did one thing socially during/after that and since then it's just been like I live on my own planet and view the world through a screen.I used to meet people at school, at work, etc. Now I just don't meet anyone, and the few people I do meet are doing their own thing. Libraries are often looking to fill their calendar with quirky or interesting events. If you were to offer to give a talk on the basics of AI or some other subject, they'd jump. Same is true for church groups, councils on aging, etc. They're pretty enthusiastic to have someone knowledgeable about a subject come in and explain things. All these groups are typically managed by your town's "community-minded" players (busybodies). Once they know you exist, you'll be recommended to other groups, invited to events and parties, etc. It's not even difficult.I'm rehearsing for a play in a church. Get a hobby. I like cars, so I work on my car, post on car forums, race my car and go to car meets. Like 50% of bros are also car guys, so chances are when I meet a bro out in the world he is also a car guy and we will have something interesting to talk about and bond over.
