Notice how on a real lizard the tail is exactly in line with the spine.
On lizardmen with plantigrade legs, the tail juts out from the lumbar/buttocks region at an almost 90 degree angle to the spine, which just looks awkward, unbalanced and unrealistic when the tail is so large relative to the rest of the body.

Another awkward tail on an otherwise very cool looking depiction of a lizardman due to the plantigrade leg structure.
Even if the tail doesn't stick out, as in this depiction, it still looks awkward on a lizardman with plantigrade leg structure. It's hard to imagine it not evolving into a vestigial structure in such a case.
Here we see digitigrade legs and a somewhat vestigial tail, which lend more believability. Unfortunately, in this case that is offset by the breasts. There are no viviparous reptiles which nurse their young-- they are all born fully mobile and ready to hunt.
Sadly, it seems most artists draw lizardmen with plantigrade legs and a full sized tail at 90 degrees to the spine, generally resorting to clothing and posing to hide the awkwardness of it.
