This isn’t even really debated anymore everybody who knows anything about economics acknowledges that free trade is good from a purely economic point of view. Only special interests and a select few benefit from protectionism and they do so at the expense of everybody.

If your job relies on blocking imports from foreign markets, you’re basically on welfare. Your entire livelihood is contingent on making everyone else poorer, no different from a welfare recipient living on my tax dollars

I mean the only real question is how much of a net benefit is it
>>

Major net benefit

it's objectively true that overall global society would be better if every single country cut government subsidies to businesses and reduced all tariffs and trade barriers to 0, from a purely material perspective. But this also implies unrestricted labor markets, which implies infinite immigration.

Free markets are incompatible with national/racial continuity and tradition in general. Capitalism has been significantly more corrosive to traditional values than socialism, even with the ideological bent of most socialist groups. That's the trade you make.

We could still have restrictions on immigration for cultural or ethnic or crime related reasons. It is true that from a purely materialistic point of view it would be better too, but the world is not that simple. And for that reason, many people, especially nationalist Libertarians, separate the two. Calvin Coolidge, one of the best presidents, was forfree markets, but he was an immigration restriction. Free markets, but he was a immigration restrictionist

I love making browns poorer.

Browns like you deserve to suffer.

Protectionism is based because it hurts browns like you.

Nice try hiding your flag, we know you're a disgusting shitskin subhuman.

Why did you decide to make this thread here today? For what purpose?

DeGlobalization is happening.

DeGlobalization hurts browns like you, and makes you subhumans suffer by restricting immigration of browns.

Also, it makes you poorer by making things more expensive for you. :-)

Yes but honestly I feel the free market period is just part of a civilizational cycle. Empires are for free trade and free markets on their ascent, when they hit the top they seek to protect their position.

The moment of US hegemony and the development of the US-led global trade system was very unique from a world historical perspective because the US subsidized global maritime security in exchange for implicit political support. Instead of direct financial benefits the US extracted political/security support (ie, if the cold war went hot, it would be Europeans doing most of the land war).

It’s actually not happening. Globally this whole thing has encouraged more global integration and the next President will immediately reverse all this stupidity even if it’s Vance
