The job of politicians is basically just to sell people what benefits the people paying them (donors, lobbyists). They need something to run on and it needs to benefit the right groups.Lately all the traditional politicians that function only like this have been struggling to find traction in spite of being backed by media that is payed by the same companies for advertisement.
that's how democracy works. Liberals decried and raged against monarchs and aristocracy only to bring forth anarchy ruled by demagogues.
