>>519831989Something about free will? Anton Chigur doesn't believe in free will, hence why he doesn't feel guilt when killing people. He believes that everything is pre determined anyway. He's a determinist / fatalist.
>>519830748Same message as all Coen bros flicks: White people are idiots and deserving of scorn and death. Specifically, heartland Whites or as those areas are derided, flyover states. Just the usual subversive shit.
>>519832725Now can you extrapolate that for me please?
>>519831989>Or was it just as deep as being a generic drugs crime thriller.I thought the drug theme was really fascinating. The group whose money was in the drug deal turns out to be an oil company that decides to secretly convert a floor of their building to drug deals and beginning to import mexican narcotics into america, and also hire reputable hitmen to work on their behalf. It shows how the violence and brutality that these new drugrunners are showing along with the new and more dangerous drugs, pointing towards the coming 80s with it's cocaine cowboy craze.

>>519830748Something something about evil and escalating violence, and how times change. Tommy Lee Jones character expresses this in how shit was getting more wild and how he (an oldman) wasnt cut out for the kind of shit that had seemingly taken over the country- like the cartels and serial killing psychopaths and car bombs etc.

>>519832871KINONo Country for Dumbass Boomers
>>519832329I think the moral there was that although Llewellyn was quite clever and had had training in the military, he was up against professionals who also had military training and were also very clever themselves (Carson talks about his great memory and is a good detective, Chigurh is cerebral in his approaches of unscrewing lightbulbs and walking in socks) who had killed many people like him before. He ultimately did make many mistakes that caught up to him- he dies because he is distracted by a pretty girl and stops to talk to her, and gets her senselessly killed too.

>>519831989>>519830748It is full of symbolism like Fargo and Balads of Buster Scruggs.Things to considere:1. Film have cero Music just silence and the win2. Competence and Experience is not enough to make justice you need the help of God. 6. Times changes everything becomes obsolete.7. Normal people are greedy.8. If God is on your side you will win everything in life and the devil can't do no harm to you no matter how stupid you are, (the old man from the gas station)9. You dar loves you and he will die for you.10. God works in mysterious ways and he likes to stay anonymous.

Don't get caught up in other people's business.Even the "coin toss" gas station fella (unwittingly) inserted himself into Anton's life by noticing he had a Dallas license plate. It could be argued that Carla is a victim, but she knew the situation well enough to know why Anton visited her at the end. She could have went to the police, and that case of stolen money could have helped the investigation.

>>519830748There's unstoppable evil in this world and it's like a force of nature, a natural disaster. The movie is strung together be coincidence, accident, and terrible luck with some good luck sprinkled in as well as good luck that brings bad luck. You can have values and morals but they don't guarantee outcomes. Your luck, blessings, karma, curses, whatever you want to call it, it can't be quantified or controlled, just mitigated as you're aware of it, but that of course doesn't mean a bit of it will pay off.The cop close to retirement is marked for death by the nature of fiction and we get to see how that plays out for everyone around him. It brings a sense of real horror for our real reality, how death and disaster just happens to you and those you love. Everyone's luck eventually runs out. Your reward for being consistently lucky is growing old and everything that comes with that until you die anyways.
>>519830748>cut final chapters that frame Chigger & Boomer Bell properlyStolen Korean War Valor Boomers will contentedly watch their progeny eat each other alive for scraps while they shrug and say, "Not my problem." >>519834926The coin toss is the point as the end with the coin toss has him explaining the coin got here the same way he did. It's random that you would up face to face with him, it's random that you walk away. It makes the reality of any encounter, any day, essier to see and appreciate. "Each day is a blessing" is a universal truth and maybe the best way to paint that isn't a story where luck brings characters together and things work out.I think this is hard to digest here because rightwing politics are often about a notions of meritocracy, hierarchy, and prosperity gospel; a core of these concepts is that the rich and powerful deserve what they have as much as what the poor have. We are all given an equal chance to succeed and our economic status isn't determined by luck, it's based on hard work. Failure, disaster, and poverty are for people who make bad choices. This story argues that everything has more to do with luck. Policy can shift heavily if everyone believed that stronger than the values of a Protestant work ethic.

He would always be hunted and there is always a trail left behind no matter where you go or what you do. He was screwed the moment he went back to the battle scene to give water, but he probably would have died anyway because Chigurh would eventually find his trailer through the transmitter, and kill him in his sleep.Best way Llewellyn could have made it is if he had just surrendered himself to the authorities and let them put him in protective custody. He should have blown the money on hookers and whiskey while he had a chance.

>>519830748You don't have to be literally old. It means old fashioned men. Chigur is an agent of chaos. He understands that it pays to be good, but it's far better to be lucky. >>519836512The character of Chigurh was comically unrealistic. You can't just be a chaotic serial killer who roams the country with impunity. If that was possible then we would have seen it by now.Serial killers are usually those who manage to stay off the radar because they're invisible, like killing hitchhikers, not someone who literally enters people's houses or hotels and starts shooting the place up or threaten to murder them if they don't flip his coin and then just walks away.

>>519830748The next time you watch it, realize that the entire movie is the Sheriff's (Tommy Lee Jones' character) figuring of how things happened. Anton Chigurh doesn't exist, he's a sort of bogeyman the Sheriff made up in his head. Think about it, everything plays out the same without him.
>>519832948>The group whose money was in the drug deal turns out to be an oil company that decides to secretly convert a floor of their building to drug deals where does it say this? That there are Men West of the Mississippi who can be anywhere and take anyone's life at will if you interfere with their Craft. >>519838167Good thing there are cameras literally everywhere nowadays, especially at stores.
>>519831989Watch the movie paying close attention to Tommy Lee Jones character and dialogs. That is the meaning of the movie. It is about the evil (aka spics and leftists) sweeping through America. It is about how America was ruined. That is the tide.. the unrelenting tide that should have been stopped.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nkjj2hRx_CIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH4IhjtaAUQBTW, the movie was set in the 80s. I was a little kid in the 80s. Stuff like this was rare back then. Now it does not even make the news, because it happens so much. This is not the same country. Americans are not the same people, as the 80s. The 1980s made so much more sense. Everything was not perfect, but it was so much better and so much whiter.
>>519835573My mother had a friend who traveled with transsibirian eisenbahn in the 1980s or 90s, and found a bag full of money. he left it there because he feared some Russian Mobsters would hunt him down if he took it.
>>519830748It bashes you over the head as hard as it can in the final scene with the moral messaging. You are the one on control of your own fate most of the time. Youdon't have to flip a coin to decide whether or not you are going to kill someone, just do it or don't. If something bad happens to you, don't blame it on luck or good, you could have done more to control your situation or avoid the possibility entirely.
I asked Grok, although im not suggesting thats the best form of analysis. 1. Inevitability of Fate and Chance - suggesting a universe governed by randomness rather than justice and moral order or fate. Chigurh embodying a sort of grim reaper, a force of inevitability2. Decline of Traditional Morality - the Sheriff is the moral center, grapples with a world he no longer understands. violence and amorality represented by Chigurh seems to overpower traditional notions of right and wrong. has nostalgia for a simpler more principled past3. The Nature of Evil - Chigurh personification of unrelenting evil.4. Human Agency vs. Powerlessness -people can escape the consequences of their actions. theres larger forces in the world5. The Cost of Greed - the catalyst for all the violence is money
>>519839992correction, people can't escape the consequences of their actions no matter how much they run from them like moss did. theres always a trail left behind as others have said ITT
i think a major theme would obviously be law and order versus chaos. or the concept of good and evil. pretty central to everything, really.. even the dang Bible. which is probably not a coincedence considering the movie was created by Jews, no?perhaps its suggesting that white people can't maintain law and order or goodness in the world. that eventually an unrelenting evil will outlast it.
>>519830748Anton Chigurh didn't kill anyone.
Tough white Texans living on the Mexican border will stand still and let a visibly evil psychotic beaner put a stock yard pneumatic poleaxe to their forehead and kill them with it. It's a "captive bolt stunner" and he carries a tank of compressed air with him to power it. He does this in a state renown for citizens who are armed to the teeth, who go to the grocery store strapped for war. The entire movie was inchoate nonsense which is regrettable considering the talent in it.

>>519833602 >>519830748 >>519830979 I remember reading that the supernatural character of Bardem represents death and the message was that you cannot outrun your inevitable death.
Almost everyone in the movie that scumbag killed was a good person, who's kindness was weakness. They chose to be kind, not chose to be dead.If the first cop would have killed that asshole, instead of try to arrest him, then he would be alive and no one else would have died. That would have been illegal. All of the leftists and women would have ruined him for doing what was right. The passer by trying to help the spic asshole was killed due to his kindness. The store owner knew things were going bad and should have killed that spic asshole. That would have been illegal due to the leftists' and female trash's system. On and on.Good people cannot tolerate evil. Good people cannot tolerate these leftists and affirmative action subhumans destroying everything. What do these leftists and affirmative action subhumans appeal to: white men's kindness. In the old days, hard white men conquered Texas and built it up. They did not tolerate Indian and Mexicans/ spic raids murdering their people and stealing their property. However, white men have gone soft: let women vote for an unjust system that is destroying itself. White men in the move cannot even recognize the country from when they grew up to the 80s, when the move is set. The movie is set in the 80s, because now people like me cannot even recognize this country as the same country in the 80s. At the end of the movie the Shariff quits, feeling overwhelmed and confused. This is not a country for (soft) old men (and the women that ruined it). It is a hard country that requires hard white men to correct things. If white men want a civilization worth living in, then the animals: females, leftists, spics, niggers, et al cannot be tolerated. Never give an inch to these subhumans... and when the shit hits the fan, then remove them like termites and rats. I guarantee these filth have absolutely no morals about anything they do.

Only for brief periods of time can we keep them at bay and even then they're always there, i.e. there's no country for old men that was free from evil and chaos.

I read the book (film is a perfectly good adaptation as far as I remember). Seems to be the ramblings of some sheltered cremudginy proto-boomer who thinks all the punk, biker and rocker-culture in post-ww2 USA was a sign of imminent social collapse and the "good ol' boy" texas ranger old-guard is not equipped to handle it because that's how fucked the upcoming generations are/will be. I just found it naive because race and religion are left entirely out as direct causes of antagonism and the big focus of horror mentioned towards the end is the image of a green-haired punk with a septum-piercing, akin, as far as the cop can see, to a tribal savage with a bone through his nose. I've got similar issues with A Clockwork Orange, Lord of the Flies and Heart of Darkness, all of which were written at a time naive enough to presume that whites are and always will remain self-evidently predominant and the only thing we need to fear is returning to a state of savagery like those savages we have otherwise successfully colonized and contained. Also, he author gives us autistic details about what type of gun who is using at any one time, which in turn makes it seem like it was written for sheltered edgy 15 year-olds who are also into mall-ninja gear and zombie-fiction.
>>519835737Isn't that the very opening scene too? >>519833583in hebrew the concept of a sin offering is the same as paying a debt. lots of themes of paying debts in movies, with the lender being a psychopath killer who is only satisfied with blood in return. this is obviously the God of the bible from a christian viewpoint, see book of hebrews where it says only blood can atone for sin. if you read hypostasis of the archons and on the origin of the world, 2 gnostic works, you get a very different version of God, one who is basically a monster.since western occultism folds in christian kabbalah into its system, we can also use that to analyze what is going on. one concept is gevurah or din, the 5th sephiroth. this is justice or wrath of God. as sin in the world increases, so does God's wrath. this is also seen in falling down, where michael douglas, who is God, has an increasingly powerful arsenal with which to kill sinners. i saw the movie over 15 years ago and never rewatched it, i didn't really like it compared to other cohen brothers movies. so i can't really go into further detail, but all movies are like this, they are all based on gnosticism. sometimes God is all evil, sometimes he is benevolent but imperfect, and jesus is usually the good guy. and remember that jesus dies at the end too.

Just when you think life could not be more apathetic to the existential parameters which your artificial create for it, you wake up.
In a way No Country for Old Men is just an inversion of the archetypal heroes journey. The old sheriff can’t do it anymore and needs to retire. The good guy dies off screen and the hitman kills everyone he needs to, albeit almost getting killed at the end. The film rejects our notion that the good guy wins in the end, and instead suggests that things have always been violent, and the people trying to do good in the world get hurt the most when they involve themselves with the affairs of the underworld. I sort of think in some sense, writing stuff like this was edgy at first and shocking, but now it’s gotten a bit stale because it’s essentially just saying “the world is bad and it will never be good so stop saying it’s worse now when it has always been violent and evil.” Like, basically the whole point was that the world was evil and will be evil and is evil, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Just a blackpilled nihilistic perspective focused thru different characters in a “bad guy wins” story with western elements.

>>519830748The point of the movie is that shit has gotten absolutely insane. You're not dealing with the country of the "old men", like the sheriffs Tommy Lee Jones' character alludes to who never even carried a gun. The country of today is dealing with maniacs like Chigurh who are not just insane, but calculating, technically capable and insane. You're dealing with the crazy couple he reads about in the newspaper who kidnaps elderly people to steal the social security checks and torture them to death. You're dealing with cartels who have high security offices in skyscrapers and can operate in the open. You're dealing with kids who, even in small "Texas towns" have "green hair and bones through their noses".

>>519830748It was sending a message about violence and power, and how Western society continuously succumbs to it, especially from outside forces. Jones character reflects on how society is being sent into a spiral of violent crime and baselessness due to the negligence and apathy of those currently in power and Jones, as just one man, is powerless to stop it.It touches on the matter of how one goodman, in general, is made to feel powerless. And if you are like the main character and you re just trying to get ahead in life, by luck, or by other means the world will quickly remind you of it's dog-eat-dog nature. It doesn't matter about casualties, it ll fuck up your family or anyone else. It depicts this ruthlessness and savagery from the main villain. We all know what the cartels are capable of. I don't wake up feeling empathetic some days and others not, it never changes, it's always zero empathy forever and ever. Lying is an art, that without empathy allows you to stare someone in the eyes and say anything you want without them getting even slightly suspicious. Finally, no options are off limits to solve a problem. I still envy non psychos a lot though, I feel like a robotic engineer who can't feel human emotions correctly, I exist to solve problem then die, it's a shallow human experience. I have zero desire for love and only feel intense lust occasionally.
>>519850868That's good and it makes it very post-postmodern. It's like if postmodernism is things like Trumpism or trans ideology, traditionalists and conservatives may fight these, but once you're already there, McCarthy argues there's no going back, it's "death" that we experience on a sociological level adding to the despair we already experience naturally through the ages. In previous times, we at least had a more romantic sense of the world. McCarthy was born in 1937 and died in 2023. That stretch of life, the elders he knew and learned from, were from the end of the Victorian era. This book was a reflection of that and a reaction to the contemporary, written in 2005 following the start of disillusionment with the GOP. It answers the question "well where do we go from here" with "we go until our luck runs out".
>>519833533not sure if what you are saying is correct, but I remember that I watched the gay globalist propaganda series The Walking Dead, and I stopped watching right after the old dude died. Why the old dude died in TWD?Well, he was the only fucking person in the group, the old man, talking about morality, goodness and soul. The entire group wanted to kill some kid (the kid was obviously not dangerous) because they thought that the kid might pull the dangerous group to them, so it would result in them dying horribly or being taken as slaves. So essentialy the entire group thought in animalistic manner of survival of the fittest, but the only one old man cried and shouted against them and their animalistic plans. What happened next?About 10-15 minutes later he died to a fucking zombie out in the field. Random fucking zombie breaking the old man's stomach and eating its insides. Death without dignity, undeserved, random even. The underlying message to the NPC viewer is clear though - you care about morality and stuff? Well goy, the reality is you are just an animal, and you need to fight for your survival with any means possible, otherwise you are going to die horribly, without dignity, and without anyone caring. So yeah, I think there is some common image of the Christian man in hollywood etc - old man, trying to hold onto tradition and good values, yet he is outnumbered by "modern, rational young people, who go with the common sense (that is - power is the only thing important in life, aka soulless, evil worldview)" and dies hopelesslySomething like >>519841083>>519851850love is not a fleeting feelingread up on the Eastern Orthodox concept of love
