You want to have a reliable long gun and at least eight 30 round magazines, extra ammunition. Ammunition in commonly used calibers will be a useful barter item.A quality pistol with at least 4 magazines and extra ammunition. A quality well fitted sling for your long arm is important as is a quality holster for your pistol. You also need a chest rig to carry your ammunition. You want to be able to move quietly outside your shelter with your hands free with while wearing your gear. You also want to be able to carry at least a canteen of water with you also.
