Can someone actually give me a definition of socialism that makes sense?Nobody ever seems to define socialism.
>>519855876"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you."
>>519855995What the fuck does that mean in this context?
>>519856121Exactly.
>>519856188Checked, based nonsense poster.
the government owns the means of production
>>519855876Most countries in the world are hybrids of Capitalism and Socialism. So you both have a free market and then state controlled stuff (police, firefighters) together with welfare. Some socialists want to fix the socialists aspects of Capitalism to work better like Sanders. Some other socialists want a dictatorship that takes over the market and dictates how corporations function with the end goal of communism.Basically Capitalism was a natural evolution of mercantilism that allowed the middle class more freedom to acquire and use capital. Socialism arose as a critique of Capitalism which at the time of Marx was crazy exploitative with children in coal mines and all kinds of fuckery. This started to bubble but really came to fire once Russia had a socialist revolution and since then you've had Capitalist countries adapt Socialist policies to stop the revolutionary urge.
>>519856491What is 'the means of production'? Because that could making basically everything. Is socialism simply when the government claims ownership of everything that exists?
>>519856628Thank you for the attempt but you still haven't defined socialism.>Socialism arose as a critique of Capitalism which at the time of Marx was crazy exploitative with children in coal mines and all kinds of fuckery. This is a meme, people were poor and if the children didn't work in the mines they would be starving to death, for some reason socialists think that's better for them to die than to work, which is quite indicative of their attitude.
>>519855876What are the food pepes called?
>>519857044I don't know i call them pepes with stuff on their head.
>>519857120Oh That's kinda lame
>>519857444Checked, you could call them food pepes.
>>519855876It means seizing the means of reproduction. Oh wait that was capitalism, i m a farmer though.
>>519855876the abolition of private property ownership, where the state owns everything
>>519856838yes
>>519856838not just things that exist, but things that don't exist such as your parental rights or even your own labor. You're not allowed to grow your own food, for example
>>519855876Statism on steroids with extra thievery from the productive to fund the undesirables who can be used to terrorize the rest. The Elite pedos LOVE socialism because it's a form of statism. All power to the state none to you. It's their wet dream and why they are flooding al European countries now.
>>519859381Oh and a planned, not market economy. Didn't work out great for Mao.
>>519855876Have you played any colony/city management game? It is pretty much that, only Simcity is a bit different
>>519855876Socialism is any program that helps people out through taxation, but “what the fuck?! I don’t use this so why the fuck should I pay for it! I ain’t funding no socialist agenda”.
>>519855876Its, like, being super social or something, I think?
>>519860022No it isnt
>>519859298That’s not entirely true. If you can grow your own without effecting or flooding the distribution process, you’re welcome to grow your own food. The point of socialism distribute wealth more equitably, providing access to necessities like healthcare and housing, and opposing the inequalities and worker exploitation associated with capitalism. Different forms of socialism exist. It’s not necessarily the government telling you what you can or cannot do so much as a more equitable distribution of goods and services. A lot of countries with affordable healthcare rely on a hybrid form of socialism. The ACA (Obamacare) is an example of Democratic socialism where the government assures access to healthcare for those most at risk financially.
>>519856838Most existing governments are a combination of different political ideologies. Roads and firehouses being built by our government instead of a privately owned company are socialist in nature, but that doesn't mean we live in a socialist society. Things aren't as black and white as that.
>>519855876>Can someone actually give me a definition of socialism that makes senseInfinite gibs and infinite inflation. Zero expropriations
>>519860651Yeah it is. Every time one hears about a government program that’s not entirely popular, people start screaming about socialism and it’s usually the people who currently don’t need or use that program or agree with related policy are screaming the loudest about being ‘Merican and not supporting no socialism in their country. You want government to pay for lobster and steak on your SNAP benefits?! You an anti American socialist! Affordable healthcare and housing? Buy less coffee and avacadoes, you socialist! Clean up the air? Nothing more socialist than telling hardworking Americans that they can roll coal own those socialist faggots driving a Tesla.Socialism is the boogey man because we’ve been taught it’s a gateway to communism.
We, as a society, all come together and pool our money and use it to buy things that we all collectively use. That's it. Public roads, public schools, cops and firefighters, a standing army, the national weather service, all of that is socialism. After the WW2 "sharing" became a dirty word so the word will be thrown around a synonym for "thing I don't like" or similar but that's literally just the desperate flailing of retards that unfortunately works better than it should.
>>519861819Kinda the point I was making in my last post.
>>519855876It's a broad term thar encompasses many theories and beliefs. Broadly it's about collective ownership of the means of production as opposed to private control of it. How this is achieved depends on your specific sub niche of socialism. Some people define it as government control over essential industry, effectively having reprisentitve democratic control over them and using the profits to invest back into the people, some lean more on the unionisation angle of it and giving workers far more direct control via Coperative type work places, then you get the communists and all those varieties that belive eventually the state as an entity should be abolished as its a tool of the private owner class. Most of it is retarded idealism. I think mixed market social democracy is a good way to go but only if we have native majority populations.
It depends which philosophical path you examine which is why you get different answers. If you’re looking at Marxist socialism then it is a quasi religious framework in which socialism is the intermediary position in which the oppressed overthrow their oppressors, becoming the dominant power, and thus own everything (means of production). However, the oppressed being benevolent overlords will then redistribute everything they conquered equally and we will live in a communist paradise. It relies on victim narrative and the idea that people are inherently good, with greed being the only thing that makes us evil. The idea of socialism predated Marx though and was something like government funded citizen programs. It is the idea of a country is like a big family and therefore you shouldn’t charge your family money for necessities — although necessities are pretty open to interpretation. Fun fact outside of this immediate realm, I have noticed that many of the times when a Marxist complains about capitalism, they are actually describing the effects of usury
>>519856838Instead of>I own this [factory / company / farm / etc.], you guys do all the work, and I keep the profitIt's>The state owns this [factory / company / farm / etc.], you guys do all the work, and the state distributes the profitCommunism of course is "we own it and we keep the profit" (collective ownership of the means of production) but this is difficult in terms of practical organization
