is it possible to sort out a mortgage for a right-to-buy council house within 5 weeks?

I plan to get a part time job instead once an agreement is met but I may have to stay at my full time job (which I'm not keen on) for now because I get paid monthly and my next payslip is November 25th.
I'm wondering if I can switch jobs now but I risk not getting the mortgage done in time and not having that latest payslip when the time comes.

>A series of new avian influenza outbreaks has deepened concern across the UK poultry industry, with cases now confirmed in Denbighshire, Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
>The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) on Sunday (26 October) confirmed infection in a flock of 32,000 free-range laying hens near Cynwyd, Denbighshire, alongside a second outbreak in 32,000 birds near Penrith, and another in 68,000 free-range hens near Bedale, North Yorkshire.
>All affected sites have been placed under strict 3 km Protection Zones and 10 km Surveillance Zones, as authorities race to contain the spread of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) strain. The cluster of outbreaks marks the most serious escalation in the disease since early 2025.
>In response, the British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA) has renewed calls for an immediate Housing Order across western Great Britain, warning that the risk of transmission is rising sharply as migratory birds return for winter.

>Britain’s pig producers have warned that the UK remains dangerously exposed to animal disease outbreaks unless the government boosts national biosecurity funding and on-farm investment in November's autumn budget.
>The National Pig Association (NPA) said the Treasury must prioritise protecting borders from threats such as African swine fever (ASF) and foot and mouth disease (FMD), as well as support capital investment to improve animal welfare and farm resilience.
>In its budget submission, the NPA also urged continued funding for the Agricultural Supply Chain Adjudicator (ASCA) and asked the government to reconsider proposed inheritance tax reforms.
>The association welcomed the government’s “hugely significant” £1 billion investment in a new National Biosecurity Centre as part of the redevelopment of the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) facilities at Weybridge.
>However, it said that the UK “remains poorly protected from biosecurity and notifiable disease threats,” particularly as African swine fever (ASF) continues to circulate in parts of the EU and foot and mouth disease (FMD) has recently been detected in Germany and other member states.
>The NPA’s submission linked these risks to high volumes of illegally imported meat entering the country from ASF-infected areas such as Romania, both through personal imports and commercial routes.

>More than a third of Britain’s berry growers are considering scaling back or quitting production altogether, as a new industry audit reveals the sector is under mounting pressure despite strong 2025 sales.
>A 2025 grower audit by British Berry Growers (BBG) — representing around 95% of UK producers — paints a picture of an industry caught between confidence and concern.
>While some growers are reinvesting and seeing opportunities for growth, others warn that spiralling costs, labour shortages and retailer pressures are threatening their future.
>The research, conducted in August as part of BBG’s ongoing benchmarking programme, follows similar studies in 2023 and 2024. It shows signs of cautious optimism among some growers, but also deep financial and structural challenges that could reshape the sector in the years ahead.
>The report reveals that 34% of British berry growers are considering scaling back or leaving the sector entirely, citing poor profitability and financial stress.
>Only 48% said they are currently making a profit, falling to 39% who expect to do so next year, while 43% rated their business’s financial health as “bad” or “extremely bad.”
>Relations with supermarkets remain a major flashpoint. Six in ten growers (61%) agreed that retailers “buy only on price, it’s not a partnership” — up sharply from 40% last year — while almost a third (32%) described the relationship as the “worst it’s been in the last ten years.”
>However, there are signs of improvement: 10% now describe their relationship with retailers as a “true partnership”, and 15% say it’s the “best it’s been” — a positive shift from 2023 when no growers selected those options.
Berry shortage next year.

>Mr Wedger said he believes the problem runs deeper than fears over being labelled racist – and says he’s seen such gangs, and their associates, operating in London from all backgrounds and ethnicities.
>“It p***es all over that grooming gang narrative, like it’s some clandestine mafia doing it. It’s more rudimentary than that, it’s more localised,” he said of the reality he’s seen.

>Food price inflation is refusing to ease, and new analysis points the finger at everyday staples such as butter, beef, milk, coffee and chocolate — with extreme weather taking much of the blame.
>According to the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), prices for these five foods have risen by an average of 15.6% over the past year, more than four times faster than the 2.8% increase across other food and drink.
>Though they make up only 11% of the average shopping basket, they account for nearly 40% of the overall rise in food bills.
>The Bank of England has already warned that climate-driven weather extremes are fuelling UK inflation, complicating efforts to return rates to the two percent target.
>The ECIU analysis disputes claims that wage rises or taxes are the main cause, pointing instead to harvest losses and supply shocks.
>Chris Jaccarini, food and farming analyst at the ECIU, said: “At 73p, a pint of milk now costs 23p more than it did at start of the gas crisis. Milk, butter, beef, chocolate, coffee and olive oil have all been hit by extreme weather and have all become much more expensive.”
>Butter and beef costs, for example, have risen after a historically hot, dry summer reduced grass growth, forcing farmers to buy feed. A bluetongue outbreak in Europe, linked to warmer conditions, has further squeezed milk and dairy supply, keeping prices high.
>The UK imports around 40% of its food, leaving household staples vulnerable to global climate shocks. Cocoa prices have more than tripled in three years following crop losses in West Africa, while chocolate prices have already risen by 45% in UK shops.

18-22 degrees is the average required temp. Some types such as pilsners prefer 15-20. Once the fermentation happens the energy produced during the sugar conversion will raise the vessel internal temp by 2-3 degrees.

They key to good brewing is to ensure the complete sterilisation of the fermentation vessel/equipment and temperature control. Allow an additional week in the vessel after primary fermentation to allow the yeast to clear up after itself to reduce the buttery flavours, also known as a diacetyl rest. After bottling with added sugars to create carbonisation via secondary fermentation, they should be bottle conditioned for at least two weeks in a warm environment, then kept in a cool environment such as the fridge for two weeks. This will allow the beer to be at its best.

I was in Newcastle city centre the other day, outside the civic centre there are three flags flying high on three flagpoles all close together.
If I asked you all to guess what they were you'd never get them.
First is obvious, the Union Jack.
But the second was a flag that said "SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD"
and the third flag was the blue flag of the United Nations.
Any lads in Newcastle can fact check me on this if you don't believe me. It was so shocking to me they have the balls to fly the UN flag and the Show Racism the Red card on a flag.

Yes properly fizzy assuming you bottle condition for long enough in the right temperature with the correct amount of sugar added during bottling.
The yeast that comes with kits is generally not very good, always purchase proper yeast such as Safale of the appropriate type for your style of beer and use that during brewing.

Yeah, piece of piss to grow them. I ordered 2 cubensis spore syringes from Zamnesia and did a bit of research on the shroomery.
Had to buy about £70 worth of kit which included glass jars for inoculating and plastic shoe containers for fruiting and grew probably 20 containers like picrel over a few months.
I've got a load of spore prints now so all I'll need for another grow is brown rice flour, vermiculite and coconut coir, which is just a few quid.
If you're serious about growing them there's loads of info on the shroomery and loads of different setups you can go for but I just went as basic as possible and got massive yields. As long as you keep everything clean to avoid contamination as much as possible it's dead easy.

Keep within those ranges, and you'll be fine. Consistency of temperature is quite important, it's no good if the room drops 10 degrees at night, as the yeast will stop working. If the temperature gets too high, the yeast can start to produce unpleasant flavours, and ultimately die.
I do mine in an airing cupboard. The only problem with smell I've had was when I over-primed a bottle and it exploded.
