a fun fact about new orleans is in the city proper and everything in the metro except some parts of the northshore is that the uber rich who live in those granite and marble mansions uptown are the only natives who somehow still have southern accents. they're literally descendants from the first English-speaking people who migrated to the city after the Louisiana Purchase. They were wealthy planters and merchants. Generations later, they still sound the same.
