You are absolutely correct with that whole knowing what violence is like. Standing your ground you do stand a better chance of survival, for one it will make the aggressor think twice if they know you're gonna defend yourself and that might be all it takes before law enforcement arrives. But just curling up into a ball or running like some prey through a train and then getting stabbed to death is not how to do it because that is exactly what they want people to do. It makes them feel more powerful and gives them more motivation to continue.
