It's a fairly dense cluster of interconnected cities that Ukraine has spent the past decade fortifying.The nature of the battlefield means it's essentially infantry + drones. Russia advaces at about 8m2 per casualty (dead or wounded). Note some people are wounded more than once so it’s a bit skewed. For some reason Syrsky seem to be hellbent on keeping Pokrovsk despite it starting look like an avdiivka situation from where they should have pulled back and consolidated stronger positions long time ago. There is no frontline as such but a network of dugouts and basements where infantry is sitting while drones strike anything they can find as far as 20km from the middle of the grey zone in both directions. Even if Pokrovsks falls (which it probably will) ukraine still has 3 lines ready built behind it to which russia has to keep advancing through open fields. Russia is currently conquering area but at what cost? The economy is going so-so and I had estimated Q3 2025 when it would collapse which was obviously wrong in hindsight but I’m not sure how much longer they can last if refineries keep getting struck and they keep losing men like this.
