It was maybe a year ago and even than the value wasn’t that great anymore since it connects the rail system, which was of less and less of use since both sides destroyed much of the it. The worth as a logistics hub is quite low. Not just because of the frontline, but due to general deteriorating infrastructure. The city (well it’s two to be correct) are destroyed and now it’s not really a place were you can store a lot of things (especially large ones) or let alone repair or replenish them anymore. Losing a city isn’t that bad unless you intent to storm it again soon. What’s left there are the basements and Ukraine would just have to fall back to their next defense line. So yes there is some strategic value and it is symbolic, but keeping things in perspective roughly 60.000 prior inhabitants (for both cities combined). Barely a midsized town.
