The only advantage to any city at this point is the ultra-high-end of nightlife, restaurants, entertainment, etc. and only New York still has that. So New York is good if you’re super duper rich. I grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania and lived in New York after college. I burned out so I moved to Philly, was still burned out, so I moved back to Northeast Pennsylvania. It’s nicer and quieter here but it’s so goddamn boring and unremarkable. I just can’t help but feel like if you’re young and ambitious you really have no choice but to live in a big city like New York. Not doing so is effectively dropping out professionally, socially, romantically.
