I'm reading more and more mainstream op-eds in American publications about the fear of "China beating the US in the AI race" being artificial hype resulting from lobbying by the big tech companies. Those who're old enough to remember the Cold War dynamics will find the possibilities here amusing. It's either:a) there is a real race and China is doing all the propaganda it can to convince the American populace that it's a giant waste of money to invest in the technology, or b) there isn't a viable advantage to invest heavily into AI, and whoever goes harder in pursuit of this goal, loses. Meanwhile, Trump said a few days ago: >"Everybody wants AI because it’s the new internet. It’s the new everything. It’s one of the biggest things anyone’s ever seen. So everyone wants it. Yeah. I mean, the only problem is if you don’t get it."
