Why was the concept of "Food desert" invented? What is it supposed to control?
>>521005291So, a plantation ...
>>521005291When niggers stole every grocery out of business and then gentrified libs moved to the area and whined about lack of places to buy organic lentils
>>521005291How hard can it be to buy big ass bags of grains, lentils and beans? What inner city doesn't have one of these Chinese stores with 25kg sacks?
>>521005291Jesus, whoever created this poster is an asshole. You're supposed to make it easy to read, not seizure-inducing.
>>521005626The thing is a food desert is anything but. Case in point, this food desert map of NYC.Area 1 is Williamsburg. It's a super gentrified place with a million supermarkets and even a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's.Area 2, marked as mildly food deserty, is downtown Flushing, the area in New York City with the most food diversity and abundance, both cooked and groceries.Area 3 is Sunset Park, your average gentrifying area with supermarkets everywhere.Go through every "food desert" marked on this map and you'll see that there's an abundance of supermarkets. So why is the establishment trying to convince us supermarkets are disappearing from the innercity?
>>521005626The gentrified areas all have trader joes. Only the nigger areas have nothing but bulletproof glass bodegas (that resell snap purchased food)
>>521005291>feral doctors and engineers burn loot and murder>people and businesses leave>"why wyt popl so racity???"
>>521006158The businesses are not leaving. "Food deserts" have supermarkets.>>521006148Here's what an inner city food desert looks like. It's not all bodegas.
It wasn't invented as much as consolidation fueled by capitalism greed that made it happen. Pushing out independent grocery stores and larger chains sticking around nicer areas. Like my house has an easy 6-7 grocery stores with in a few miles. 15+ if you push it to 4-5 miles. Yet past that you can go another 5+ miles and it's see absolutely nothing. That in a city (county wide) of 1.6m people. It puts a strain on people with low incomes. The south area of the USA has it the worst with dollar tree areas with no real fresh anything
Food desert means there's no nearby grocery stores, so the only food you can buy without driving a longer (and more time prohibitive) distance is garbage from convenience stores, dollar stores, etc...>>521006010It is quite possible for the people labeling to just be wrong, however. Food deserts do exist, but I'm pretty sure they're not in New York.
>>521005291It's supposed to mean white people are racist for not letting niggers steal.
>>521006508>It is quite possible for the people labeling to just be wrong, however. Food deserts do exist, but I'm pretty sure they're not in New York.Right, a lot of rural areas are served by one Walmart 20 miles away. But the entire discourse around the concept of food desert is about urban people and how corporations are depriving them of access to food. But if you look at the black and brown areas, there is no shortage of access to food.Pic rel: Washington Heights, marked in dark brown as an area desperately in need of access to food.
