Post war Detroit boomed more than anywhere in the world. Unions became very powerful and bent the car companies over a barrel. Lefty politicians were very pro union. Democrats kept control for 50 years mismanaged everything, but created a great safety net for grifters. With the grifters came crime making Detroit one of the most dangerous Cities in the US. The City started to rot from the inside and it created the term 'white flight' where all whites left the City. The tax base collapses. Unions priced all workers - autoworkers, machinists, tool and die - out of the market. Since 1970 manufacturing has gone down each year. Wall Street shipped all their jobs offshore to the far East and Mexico. Detroit actually kicked this off for the whole country.
