Let me get this straight. He wanted to raise a 2% tax on you if you make over $1 million plus a corporate tax in order to offer … free buses? Who the fuck came with that idea? What do the income or corporations have to do with buses? That’s like hey let’s do X and send the check to Y. It’s dumb. There has to be a logical correlation for taxes to work. For example, a tax on tobacco products that goes to fund free cancer screening makes sense. Tobacco makers and sellers benefit from worsening health of citizens so it only makes sense to demand a compensation for putting a dent in public health. A better proposal would be introducing a car tax because it will actually encourage people to ditch their autos in favor of the MTA or something. I do not advocate for this but it actually makes sense because buses compete with cars for lane spaces. Corporations aren’t a fucking ATM nor are high income individuals. It’s much harder to tax them because they can restructure their businesses or just go find another jurisdiction. Why are Americans so gullible?
